Colorado Backpacking Trip Cut Short
มุมมอง 6385 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was intended to be a 3-4 day trip, but due to the heavy snow pack from the previous winter, we chose to cut the trip short. I was on the fence about sharing this, since we didn't complete the route we'd wanted. I really loved the scenery out here though. I'm also a strong believer in being safe on trail & making smart choices. This was a good example of us realizing that continuing on just...

Im heading to the Sawtooths this weekend backpacking for 5 days, Tried 2 weeks ago, got there and it was way too smokey for me, had to leave. . A real bummer. Should be ok this next attempt. Love you sitting right in front of Electric that ridge over your right shoulder is the one that ends literally at trail 👣 junction up Electric. You walk down from a few trees hit trail coming out of bear maul woods. Turn left few yards up is Electric. I like Quadrant. Electric is 22 miles or more round trip.

    It's a great area for multiday. BUT can't touch the Tooth July August. Up there Beartooth you can walk straight out from pass. South side. Ridge to Spirit Mountain. The two lakes prior you can follow lake chain out. From Fire tower up top follow ridge out. Drops you right in middle. The first 180 degree bend up fire tower road has TH out into the giant bowl. The biggest meadow. Muddy Creek. Google it. It is real griz central. Big time. If with kids I carry a gun in my hands. Thats me. Worked in Yellowstone we carried in there too. 3 of us had a spray plan as primary. Alone I don't carry either.

    This by far my favorite video on area. Thanks. Purple Hawaiian Punch. Nice! I put the mountain house in barrel as described. 5 to gallon bag. 3 types. I Never ever take an air mat. All have failed. 100% Polypad never fails.

  • @sluggotinfantryman
    @sluggotinfantryman 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This is best multiday hiking area in my view. Or going all the way down the river from upper falls to Gardiner. Beartooth is best mid July to September. The reason there are many griz is there are five types of berries or more in greater area. So if picking berries you are standing in a griz food source. Bear spray falls out easily so make sure you secure it. Especially if crossing water. Scrambling up terrain.

    This bear management area. Bear central. Grizzlies generally leave you alone. Or not. 😅 You cannot see them coming in rough terrain. They can outrun your dog. 35 mph or more. I am scared walking through those woods. Always. Have had numerous bears walk by me in Yellowstone. Griz. Teton too. Like him have no idea why I am still alive. That ridge he filming on looking towards Swan Lake and Bunsen. Ends literally at the trail junction up to Electric. I always take the ridge never trail through canyon and wood. Specifically because of bears. You do what you do. You cannot see anything in those woods. Every bear that walked by me close came out of a creekbed. Others 100 to 400 yards in meadows.

  • @sluggotinfantryman

    I always recommend Quadrant for day hikers. The first thing I see you figured out is always be able to cover your entire body. Hot cold medium smart call in wild. If cold I learned in Infantry use the rubber suit rain gear. The way it works is the top bottom are on outside pockets. As is one poncho. Army nylon. Inside is Army issue rubber nylon waterproof bag. Inside out. Nylon inside so gear goes in smooth. As soon as you stop you cover pack with one army poncho. You sleep under poncho pinned to ground on mat. If over 6 foot poncho is shorter than yourself. Been in Hurricanes under poncho 18 inches or less front opening. Dry. You can be soaked totally but rubber rain gear holds heat in. Doesn't breath. 960 plus days outside. 28 to 45 at a time. Those five items work. Rain top bottom Polypad 2 ponchos nylon type Waterproof bag. Buy an Osprey high end gear bag. Get down gear. Compresses best. Thin baclava Watch cap. I cut off polyester sweat pants below knee thin ones that dry. Wore that lightweight army fatigues down to 28 degrees. 17 below is coldest I have been in with 8 degree daytime highs. BUT for through hiking in wet cold. This set up is money. Proven. Yeah I know what high end gear is. Got it all. Not many people live in the woods 28 to 45 days at a time. Army does nonstop.

    12:00 Walking Time Bomb , High Blood Pressure , .....Heads up Hikers , consuming Liquor on the trail will give you joint pain , Alcohol is inflammatory , that is why joint pain after drinking alcohol is common. This is especially true if you already have a medical condition like rheumatoid arthritis , kidney disease , and Heart attack if under strain . So on those long inclines it benefits you to leave it at home weeks in advance .If you weigh in around 200 -240 , 25 pound pack should be the max .
