Get This Credit Card Before It's GONE | American Airlines
American Airlines currently has credit cards issued by both Citigroup (Citibank) and Barclays. The Barclays Aviator cards could, however, become a thing of the past, as American Airlines is in talks to make Citigroup its exclusive credit card partner. You thus may want to act soon if you're interested in the Barclays Aadvantage Aviator Red Mastercard, especially since it has a relatively higher sign up bonus of 70,000 AA miles.
In this video, we'll discuss the Aviator Red card in detail, including the multipliers, benefits, and redemption options for the miles.
We'll also reveal what I did with the card after holding it for 1 year, and evaluate the keep / product change / cancel options that you should consider after year 1, depending on your situation and preferences.

Points & Miles Are Getting Devalued! 5 Things To Do
มุมมอง 67614 วันที่ผ่านมา
It's an undeniable reality that travel points and miles get devalued over time. I wonder if there is any data that shows the rate of specific credit card point devaluation over time versus that of US inflation. Feel like it would be relatively hard/impossible to quantify given the versatility of some credit card points like AMEX/Chase/Capital One etc and the fact that redemptions can be so specific, but it would be interesting to see the comparison between for example redeeming 80,000 chase UR points to book a 4 night Park Hyatt stay 3 years ago worth $2000 in 2019 vs redeeming 120,000 Chase UR points to book a 4 night PH stay today worth $3000 (completely arbitrary numbers). Would give a better sense of whether some credit card points are truly being devalued relatively speaking. Great video!

      Interesting thoughts, that could be very insightful though for the reasons you highlighted, probably a tricky exercise. I applied for the Venture X last year in Aug 2023 and was declined. I applied for the Venture card this month and got declined again. The reason I was given was that there are too many active credit cards based on my loan history. I do have 12 personal cards. My current credit score is 816 and I have 4 hard enquiries. Should I consider closing some of cards or wait until the enquiries fall off before I can apply again?

    • @MontyTheCardNerd
      @MontyTheCardNerd 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Closing some of your cards can definitely improve your approval chances. That said, I would generally avoid closing your oldest cards and cards that you get good organic value from. Waiting for inquiries to fall off can certainly help too. Reducing your overall credit limit may also improve your approval chances. This can be done by simply calling the issuer and asking for the credit limit reduction. Good potential alternative to closing cards.

Then, after 6 months, they approved me for the second card. This time it was not automatic, I needed to supply some documents. I’m at like the very end of my credit card journey and just need/want one more card which unfortunately is the Capital One Savor One to complete my Capital One duo since I already have the Venture X. I got the Venture X back in January and I have tried the pre approval site multiple times and it progressed from saying I wasn’t pre approved for anything after maybe a month after getting the Venture X to it saying I was only pre approved for secured credit card to what it’s shown me the last three months which is that I’m pre approved for several cards but only the “good credit” versions. I’m going to hold out a little while longer to see if the finally pre approve me for the Savor One for excellent credit but if not then screw C1 I’ll just keep using AMEX and Chase as my two main travel setups.

      @MontyTheCardNerd หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah that elusive Savor One card. Great to hear though that your preapproval results have been getting progressively better. I wonder if it's because you've had hard inquiries fall off your credit report and/or you've closed some accounts recently? And yeap Amex and Chase make for great long-term travel setups, especially with Chase if you can hit multiple bonuses on the same cards. Thanks for sharing Chris!

      @chrisbrown8748 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MontyTheCardNerdNo actually nothing has fallen off yet I think that was just all due to me checking the pre approval site throughout the 6 months since getting the Venture X. The most hard inquiries I have is with Experian at 5 and one of those will come off in a few months. I have 17 total accounts and only 4 of those are closed accounts. I have 2 credit cards in the past 12 months, and 4 total in the last 24 months. So I think I’ll just chill until one of my inquiries falls off and one of those credit cards fall out of being workin the 24 month range before trying the pre approval process again.

    Do you think they’ll ever be able to add a domestic travel partner?

    • @MontyTheCardNerd
      @MontyTheCardNerd หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't expect them to add any of the "big 3" carriers. Delta seems to have a pretty exclusive relationship with Amex, also United / Southwest with Chase, Citi with American (and AA isn't even a Citi transfer partner). Jetblue is the most likely candidate in my opinion. Thankfully, there are opportunities to use partner miles to redeem on domestic carriers, for example using Turkish miles to redeem on United. Often, it'll cost less miles to redeem through partners.
