ELEVATION DUMP in Duluth! | Kissing Booth, BOB, Lincoln | Mountain Biking Piedmont and Brewer
Some serious drop in elevation in Duluth!
Stick season is here, and a recent ride took me on a slice of the Duluth Traverse. A bit of detour and I was buckling down some steep and spicy descents.
My first ride on Kissing Booth in 3 years was an absolute joy. This trail is a gem, with a reworked bottom section that sports some approachable tabletop jumps. BOB (Bones of the Beast) and Lincoln shoot straight down the hill in a non-stop grin of a ride.

Can I No-Dab BLOODSTONE? | Tioga Mountain Bike Trails | Cohasset, MN
มุมมอง 517หลายเดือนก่อน
The trials at Tioga are primarily downhill flow trails, with some cross country thrown in for good measure. Bloodstone, on the other hand, is the lone double-black diamond technical trail. This trail is interesting, as it has a lot of flowy sections, which are interrupted by intermittent rock gardens. It's a great candidate for a no-dab challenge. While not overly difficult, I've yet to string ...

While in Fort Collins for a wedding, I got some time out on the bike in the Horsetooth Mountain Open Space trails. Last year my brother and I rode at Redhead for the first time. For today's ride I'm back at this beautiful trail system. I met up with TH-camr Andrew Gehn, who is a local up here on The Range, and who considers Redhead to be his home trail. Sledgehammer is Cuyuna's big-featured, rocky, high-consequence technical trail. Located in the Mahnomen North unit, and accessed by the Backcountry trail, this trail isn't for the faint of heart. Hey bro I can you make a video on fat bike vs BMX
Well I’ve never ridden a BMX bike so I’m probably not the most qualified there. Like the concept though!
Thanks for the review. Great comparisons.
Thank you, glad you it was helpful!
I agree on most points but I believe you miss some aspects: on really rough terrain the chesty is way more shaky/unsteady compared to the chin mount, so for maximum smoothness on a rough DH track I’d always go for chin mount, when you shoot a lot of social media the chin mount also gives you a great angle with plenty of horizon (for 16:9 I must agree the horizon cuts a bit small), also for follow cam I would prefer the chin mount as with the right angle it takes the focus from the pov rider and brings it towards the followed rider. So, for me it’s more nuanced and I think both setups are great for different use cases. 🙌🏽
You raise great points. Chin mount is much smoother on technical trails and certainly captures focal points better with a vertical aspect ratio! 🤙
0:31 how did he not see him coming?? O fer funny!
Happens a decent amount with groups of people 😂
Hey Rob what are some awesome trails in the twin cities area?
Lebanon Hills is probably the best, down in Eagan. Battle Creek in Maplewood and Elm Creek in Champlin are fun, and Monarch down in Waconia has some fun trails. Localized in Afton looks awesome and very unique, it opened a little over a year ago and I actually haven’t made it there yet.
@@robonbikesor go east a little ways into Wisconsin and hit Kinnickinic and Williw River. Both great.
@Sodastat I’ve been to Willow River, that was pretty fun and they are adding new trails which is awesome! Kinnickinic is on my short list for next season!
@ I think you’ll like kinni-they just got funds to expand too.
What FPS do you shoot in?
I always do 30 fps
Stoked you got up north to Duluth one more time to ride some of the best trails around! Drone shots + Duluth in the fall is a vibe! Not ready for the season to be over
No I’m not either, hope “stick season” drags on for a while this year. Yeah this was a fun ride, I’d never strung BOB and Lincoln together like that before, was a lot of fun. And found the right line on Kissing Booth finally. That trail is up there on the best trails in Duluth for sure!
Hello, I was wondering do you know if they groom those trails at all for fat bikes in the winter? We used to live in Madison, Wisconsin and all the trails in the area they would groom so the fat biking was amazing every winter. We're thinking of moving to the area and we were just wondering what the bike scene in the winter would be like?
Yeah they groom a lot of trails. I’m not positive about the ones in this video in particular, but there will definitely be many miles of groomed trails. I live in the Twin Cities and same for those trail systems, most groomed all winter.
BOB and Kissing Booth. 2 of my all time favorite trails. Looks like an all time fall time Duluth day! What a perfect ride! 🤘
Such fun trails, happy I got to sneak Kissing Booth in before the snow fell!
Excellent riding, Rob! So sorry I wasn’t available to ride with you that day. Duluth has so many great trails to ride that it’s hard to hit them all in a riding season. I’m glad you got to ride a variety of trails when you were here.
All good dude! Yeah so many great trails is right…. I haven’t found a bad one yet in the whole area!
For sure. We had a great ride today and hit some new trails. Kathy and I started at the zoo, went on Kingsbury, up The Puker to the top of Spirit and then came down the All-Weather trail, Kingsbury and took the pavement to Keene and then back to the zoo. A nice 7.5 mile variety with amazing views!!
@Randy_Johnson One is many routes! I remember Kingsbury being a fun trail!
@@robonbikes Lots of variety in the western area of Duluth.
Nice, Mill Creek is my favorite trail up on Horsetooth, the GoPro effect is definitely real there, Mill Creek has some seriously steep sections. I live in Denver and don't get up that way too often since we have a ton of great trails down here.
Yeah those trails were a rippin’ good time! Where would you recommend going around Denver?
@@robonbikes In the metro area itself, Apex and White Ranch are both fun and rowdy tech. If you're willing to go a bit west I would go to Idaho Springs and ride Drop Shaft at Virginia Canyon park, that's an amazingly good trail. Floyd Hill and Maryland Mountain also have amazing trails.
@mrvwbug4423 cool thanks! Looked up that Drop Shaft, looks super well-built!
Awesome trails! My new fav. I hope MN can follow WI state park land MTB trails... Just think if Interstate park in MN had MTB..=)
Yeah that’d be fantastic - great terrain at Interstate!
This feels like an old seth's bike hacks video
Ha! That’s awesome, love his videos (old and new)!
It is a very rocky trail and those drops are much bigger in person the first drops landing is so steep as well!
Yeah that’s quite a drop in to the rest of the trail!
Kashima suspension would go good with that gold color scheme
Yeah it totally would!
Yeah LVL UP! Love the dramatic movie music fade to folk!
Ha thanks man!
I helped build that trail and ride it regularly. Good to see it is being recognized!
Nice! Great work on it, it’s a lot of fun!
Smiling all the way , thanks
Thank you!
The ending was priceless 😂
Thanks!
Those trees on Bloodstone waited all year to fall the moment you said it's personal! Nice job on the no dab, counts in my book as they were on easy open areas of trail after clearing the double black technical beginning of Bloodstone. Looks like the kids are pretty good soccer players!
Haha, soccer and gymnastics! I said “kids, go get all your medals and trophies!” They delivered. 😆. That trail really isn’t that tough, I just couldn’t ever string it together. Glad it finally (mostly) worked out!

😂 Nice video ending! More medals than you can handle. I’ll bet your neck is sore. 😂 Seriously though, sick riding, Rob. Great challenge. Love the rocky tech!!
Thanks Randy! Haha, those are all my kids’ medals 😂
How does this trail system compare to cuyuna? Similar climbs/descents? I assume not as MANY trails here?
They are quite different. Cuyuna offers primarily cross country trails. Tioga is set up like a bike park, with a few designated climbing trails, each going up to separate hubs, from which a number of downhill trails run. There are also a few cross country trails in Tioga as well. I prefer Tioga, I think the trails are better, but Cuyuna does have more scenic overlooks, and more miles of trails.
@@robonbikes interesting. How long are the descents? I was able to make it out to cuyuna last month, very fun and the scenery was fantastic
They vary but most are 0.5 miles to 1 mile. Here’s a link to some great maps, one has trail distances. www.tiogarecreation.com/trails/
At 2:36 you should have taken the raised rocks path instead. It's a lot easier than it looks.
I have always wanted to take that thing but for whatever reason I haven’t, the first few rocks just look sketchy to me. Great to hear it’s easier than it looks. Next time!
Rob: I'm gonna no dab this double black Mohter nature: The heck you are
Haha that’s a great recap. Damn tree! 😡
Dang making that Tallboy look capable! Nice work!
I definitely can’t complain that I can’t “feel” the trail!
@@robonbikes You def won’t have a dull moment that’s for sure! 😂
I can go over 20 mph on my fat bike on concrete, haven't got to use it in snow.
shlarbin the gnar
🤣 Shlarbin! I’m stealing that!
Awesome riding, Rob! I would say the Duluth trails really help you prepare for riding out west. Easy peasy…right? 😎🤙
At least the downhills! 😂 Not sure if it was the Covid, the elevation, or the steep grade of the climbs (probably a combination), but there was a lot of walking upwards!
@@robonbikes I think you’re right. It was a combination of everything.
Does weather often impact your ability to ride the trails?
It can yes. This spring was difficult with all the rain, the trails were closed frequently. Latter half of the season has been great, but the trails are getting dry!
Sick ride, elevation and COVID weren't enough to stop you! Heard from a few riders now that Duluth helps prepare for the gnarly trails out west, those trails looked chunky and you can't beat those views!
Who knows when I’ll get back, had to get a ride in, COVID be damned! If you’re ever in the area it’s worth a ride for sure, super fun descending and yeah great views. Many more trails in the area too!
if you havent yet, the umd trails are a pretty short but fun ride
Nice! I did one of them when I went back and finished the traverse. Think it was just called UMD.
Ooof you were so close to where I learned to mountain bike up at Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming! Fort Collins has a lot of cool riding! Just down the road (or trail) from there is devil's backbone which is also a blast! Glad you had a good time on the Front Range it is a really cool area!
My brother and I biked Curt Gowdy about 6 years ago, great place, and what a place to learn to mountain bike! I remember Cliffhanger being really cool, and Canyons was a bear!!
@@robonbikes if you ever get back there you need to ride the other side where stone temple, gold watch, gold rush, el alto, and skin and bones is!
@Tkolbo_ yeah we rode that side too! Mostly blue trails, some black. We camped there for a couple nights. South Causeway Campground. First big MTB trip I ever went on 🤘 Would love to get back there!
@@robonbikes so rad! If you get back and go up the hill to happy Jack they just completed a project where you can ride from the trails at the summit all the way down to Laramie on single track like 12 miles of singletrack in one direction mostly downhill! Ofcourse then you have to climb 2k+ feet back up haha!
@Tkolbo_ That’s awesome (not the climbing bit)!
Hi Rob, helpful and honest review. Thnx Jon🤘🏼
Glad it was helpful!
id be shocked if those were not builb by trail builders at one point. they have part in singletrack aswell as parks.
These were all built by trail builders
Great video. I only hope that Duluth will build more adapted trails. I use a wheelchair so I can’t use a normal bike, but been riding an adapted 3-wheel mountain bike with Northland Adapted Recreation. We’re running into issues with trails that are too narrow, especially at little bridges. Not asking for much…just a bit wider trails.
There are so many miles of well-established singletrack trails in Duluth, this seems like a no-brainer. Would be great to see future builds incorporate an adaptive layout. Did I run into you at Tioga by chance?
What is the address to get to this trail system? I don’t know where to park
Either at the trailhead (1221 Theodore Wirth Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55422), or at the golf course just up the road. Trail segments are scattered along Theodore Wirth Parkway. I recommend using Trailforks or MTB Project to help you find the different trails (Theo Wirth is not the easiest to find your way around if you haven’t been there before).
@@robonbikes awesome, I found it thanks! Great trails.
Simple and true
Great video!! I love my Wednesday year round!
....you talking about girls or bikes? Fun to ride?😂😂😂
Is this a state trail? Requiring trail pass?
Nope you can just go ride!
Dec '24 I'' be buyimg one and can't wait to ride throught the snow and every weather that mother nature throws ar me.
I’m gonna be heading out there in the next couple of weekends.
Should be a great time of year for it!
Good video
Thanks!
That blue trail just to the right of wild cat that was closed in your video just opened today and man is it fun!!! I must have rode it 10 times. Super jumpy and just a lot of downhill fun.
I heard that! Heard it’s a VERY fun jump line that’s really well built! Glad you liked it and awesome to hear! 🤘
I like the vid, but a trail like that needs better music.
Leap frog is also a great ski trail too, most of the MTB trails there are also great ski trails, if you ski try here
Skied there one about 30 years ago 😂
Small nitpick but Volume was BLASTED when coming from another video, usually have it sitting at 40% but it was CRAZY loud still. other than the jumpscare, great video~ 😅
Oh man, if only i didnt relate so hard to dude on the couch hahaha
Right! 😂
Nice video! Would you recommend I stay away from the mini 4k? It's a bit more in my budget at the moment but wondering if I should just wait and buy the mini 3 pro, like you have. I really just wanted it for landscape shots and also to film me riding segments of trail that I want to feature in videos.
Mini 3 will take great landscaping shots. Best upgrade to the Mini 4 is that it has omnidirectional obstruction avoidance, meaning it can track and follow you while you’re on your bike, and fly in any direction while avoiding obstacles. The mini 3 cannot detect obstacles while flying sideways, or ascending, which limits the shots you can get while the drone tracks you.
@@robonbikes Great to know! Sounds like I should save my money then for the time being. I also want to get the new GoPro since I have a mountain biking channel...so many upgrades!
@WanderingWheeliesMTB mountain biking and videography, two expensive hobbies 😬
@@robonbikes I know right?! Oye, I love it though
