I picked one up a while ago to mess around with, it's been pretty interesting. one thing I wish I'd researched more was where you're allowed to fly- it's been nice to have at some spots on trips out west but most of the places I had in mind in MN are off limits. still fun though.
Thanks! The drone has built-in obstacle avoidance. The Mini 3 Pro can see forwards, backwards, and down; so, you need to be mindful if it is going sideways or up, where it can definitely run into objects. And while it's not perfect (mine has clipped small twigs), it's pretty solid. You can set what behavior it will take if it does detect an obstacle (fly around the obstacle, stop completely, etc.). The Mini 4 pro improved on this and it has omnidirectional sensing, so pretty cool! The bigger challenge when in a lot of trees, is that as you go around a corner, if the drone loses line-of-sight of the object even briefly, like if a tree blocks its view of you, it will stop and cancel the tracking.
Nice video! Would you recommend I stay away from the mini 4k? It's a bit more in my budget at the moment but wondering if I should just wait and buy the mini 3 pro, like you have. I really just wanted it for landscape shots and also to film me riding segments of trail that I want to feature in videos.
Mini 3 will take great landscaping shots. Best upgrade to the Mini 4 is that it has omnidirectional obstruction avoidance, meaning it can track and follow you while you’re on your bike, and fly in any direction while avoiding obstacles. The mini 3 cannot detect obstacles while flying sideways, or ascending, which limits the shots you can get while the drone tracks you.

Yeah a lot of the scenic spots in the state are off limits, between state parks and national forests. Still fun though!
