The Beautiful Symbolism of Haikyuu!!
#haikyuu #anime #manga #animeanalysis
In this anime video essay I explore the symbolism in Haikyuu!!. Haikyuu!! is one of my favorite stories and does an amazing job with metaphor and symbolism, through the many animals that represent each team. From the crows of Karasuno, Foxes of Inarizaki, to the cats of Nekoma each adds a vivid layer of imagery and meaning to the story. Join me for this overview on how Furudate leverages these different symbols in Haikyuu!!

I always love hearing a ping pong essay 👍
i also feel like if hoshiumi shows up as an ace asahi would be less likely to come back in the team cause they “wouldn’t really need him” and if asahi doesn’t play neither does nishinoya so basically there wouldn’t be karasuno anymore
I read chs 16-178 in 2 days, and bro I am glad I found this manga
One of the worst major arc in shonen history! It’s influx with cheap fakeouts, emotional manipulation, plot holes, asspulls, and the worst of them all is the chosen one trope is what’s ruined One Piece for me. Retconning his devil fruit power for over a thousand chapters out of nowhere just to beat up the so-called “strongest creature alive” leave a bad taste in my mouth. Mythical Zoan, Human-Human fruit model: Sun God Nika… this deus ex machina the most special superpower in the world of One Piece and the thing that destroyed Luffy’s character and the Gorosei becoming a joke group of villains for being an incompetent saturday night cartoon characters is not worth it but the damage has been done. There’s a lot more problems that can’t be fixed. Oda being a hack writer can’t do nothing about it. It’s sad.
This was such a good video essay. Just finished watching blue box and you put my thoughts about the show into a precise analysis.
I always thought Inarizaki's animal would technically be the foxes since foxes are normally associated with Inari Shrines. Additionally, the twins have been drawn in that style, which you showed in the video. Taking what you have put out there, you can see that the team is filled with tricksters and clever players. In Japanese Folk Tale, Foxes are known to imitate and copy others. They are tricksters and very clever. This also fits with Kita who is very clever. Also a quick look on google, it says foxes are seen as protectors also which might fit better for Kita who protects all the other tricksters on the team. Also I think its beautiful that the sports anime has all these philosophies fight each other but it never makes a claim that there is one definitive philosophy. It shows how there are trade offs for each one. I only made these connections because of this video. This really reminds me why Haikyuu is such a top tier manga. Thank you as always.
As a Seattle native, I appreciate the Pete Carroll reference more than you know. <3
when is the next movie coming out
When is this rivial match coming out please
Funny enough, I just realized that with the owls and the dichotomy of intelligence…Sometimes I can‘t connect two synapses 😅😂
Even Johzenji High too is symbolized by a tree and in a way it suits them perfectly. The solid and enduring trunk represents their strong foundation and endurance while the branches could represent their weird and sporadic playstyle, their unpredictable and unconventional tactics on the court. They had the guts to try and pull off a synchronized attack for the first on set point against Karasuno😂😂
More please
Peak video 🛐
Hey dude, I was thinking a cool video idea would be to do one on each of the major team captains and what you can learn from them, like the video you did on each Haikyu's aces!
Awesome idea. There is a lot to learn from every captain for sure.
The way Accustomed Strength(a Haikyuu OST) played exactly when you discussed about Aoba Johsai being a tree makes me teary-eyed.

Blegh, soccer. No thanks
anime so good, i caught up with the manga in 3days. teared so much along the way
Hey video idea, you should do a "How/What Each Captain Changed Me/Taught Me" like the one you did for each of Haikyuus aces!
Obelisk and Slifer Slacker is activating my yugioh mind
No!!!
Please to all watching read this manga it’s the best football series simply put it’s like haikyuu but in football and the series gets to its best after the anime so it’s 100% worth the binge my favourite football show
Too bad the mangas ending soon
Even this has better animation than blue lock 😭😭😭
Interesting to see Only Yesterday here, many have seen Grave of the Fireflies but Takahata's other work doesn't get mentioned often. Only Yesterday is like the polar opposite in mood :D Definitely recommend for a feel good movie!
If I'm gonna make a team then it's going to be atsumu, hinata, tendou, hoshiomi, sakusa and kiryu, for my libero I'd choose yaku, it's a mix of both defense and offense like karasuno but this team is more BALANCE just perfect specially the wing spikers, both hoshiomi and sakusa are well known for their well rounded Playstyle, block, dig and attack, meanwhile not much is know for kiryu, i can't remember what chapter it was but it was mentioned that it power spiking he is close to ushijima, all around wise he's pretty damn good as well probably comparable to sakusa that's just a speculation from me tho, then the middle blockers obviously tendou a middle blocker that could really bother his opponents, very smart as well while hinata is hinta, quick and agile and he can also recieve, setter doesn't need an explanation, he's i'd say equal to kageyama a better server than kageyama during their highschool days but kageya has shown that he's better defensively so the only reason why i didn't choose kageyama is because of the "no two player from the same team" and yaku welp why not?
I want a season 2. ☹️
Great analysis and showcasing on what makes Ao Ashi anime shine. Without relying heavily on it being realistic. literally.
Keep reading the manga man. I got hooked so hard off season 1 of the show, that I started the manga from the beginning because I was told the anime cuts some little things, and then I read it all the way through in like two weeks and its easily a top 5 manga I've read personally. It just understands the aspects of sports some other sports animes/mangas don't. They don't get being forced to play a position you don't like but are good at like AoAshi does. They don't get the struggle of having to reinvent your playstyle like Ao Ashi does. the Struggles Ashito goes through during the whole manga is just incredible. I honestly like it more than haikyuu in some places. Definitely continue reading it and I hope you make more videos about AoAshi
I was on the fence about this one, but this absolutely is convincing me to dive in. Really looking forward to starting it this weekend!
Where’s season 2
The manga is somehow even more peak, can't wait till season 2. I support Man Utd and have always watched academy football, my feeling for Ashito is equal to those I have for real academy graduates.
Ao Ashi is as if Blue Lock actually was about Football and realistic
In my opinion, this anime was just as good as blue lock and both stand side by side as my favorite sports anime of all. One thing I really appreciated about ao ashi was Hannah. They didn't overplay the relationship between her and aoi... It's a believable friendship with a believable dynamic and a believable misunderstanding and a little bit of teenage awkwardness and romance in a way that isn't cringe. Another thing you touched on is how much the main character grows. He's a bit annoying at first but by the end you can't help but root for him. I would have loved to have seen a second season and another 24 episodes... As much as the manga has to offer. At least it shows a good place to stop, though I love it to be picked up again. And as much as I also enjoy blue lock, I kind of resent it for putting a nail in this show's coffin so to speak. There's only so many viewership minutes and everyone knows Blue Lock got the majority of the attention. That's a shame though. The second season of blue lock, for all that, was shown no love by the producers. It's still great to watch but it deserved so much better and this show deserved a second season.
They do a great job making tactics understandable imo
