@@aniessays that was a whole plot point in the election arc, Pariston and Cheetle both wanted to rewrite the bilaws and the hunter exam to be more thorough and regulated
This video is great. I agree with your understanding in a lot of ways, so many people after the events of the Chimera Ant arc say that Gon must’ve always been a monster. I’ve always understood that he was never that, he’s just a sheltered child that was naive. He blamed himself for Kite’s death and absolutely could not cope with that feeling, so much he deluded himself to believe Kite was alive and that Pitou could somehow magically fix him.
Perhaps it’s because I’m around his age but I never saw him as a monster, I completely understood his mindset and motives and strived to be like him but he slowly goes down a path that ends up destroying himself and the writing was amazing but the last season was definitely the most depressing due to the change in mood and tone.
Gon is not a monster. He finally got a taste of the real, dark, gray, and cruel world, and he just wasn't ready, despite growing considerably He was just a kid.
Gon is pure. Good hunters are liked by animals, that's most likely implying a good heart. What gon did was reasonable because someone who he looks up to, cares about, and is one of the main reason he wanted to become a hunter was killed in front of him, by a person who only had pure malice. Keep in mind that this is gon's first time feeling a loss and it's a person who he cares about (his hero basically), he was angry with himself because he couldn't do anything when they first met pitou, and he blames himself for this, and he was very frustrated about that. He was also angry at pitou because she changed, back then gon saw him as pure malice, a monster, but now, she showed human traits, she was caring for someone. Gon didn't understand this, that's why he was yelling at pitou, he was confused and frustrated that how can a monster who showed nothing but malice when they first met, now felt like a human, another factor to why he was completely tweaking out. Then he proceeded to threaten komugi not because he was a monster but because he was not thinking straight because of his anger. And then after all of this he SNAPS, fully consumed by rage, he didn't think anymore and he was fully set to kill pitou and he will stop at none to achieve that goal, he was not even worrying about the future consequences, just pure rage (a bad trait). If you've been really angry irl you'll know this, you can't think clearly and you'll often regret some of the actions that you did while you were angry. That's what the chimera ant arc is about. The show has been building gon to be pure, kind and good hearted, but the chimera ant arc showed us that even the goodest of hearts can have a bad trait. And on the opposite side, meruem who was born evil and had an evil heart can have a good trait. This is one of the best parallels in animanga in my opinion.
These are good points. I never thought of gon as being morally gray, a monster, or a “bad person.” His moment against pitou and his hatred for pitou is too nuanced to just assume gon is inconsistent with his morality. Pitou was basically a complete psychopath in gon’s eyes for what pitou did to kite. Not to mention, Pitou literally told gon that they were going to KILL him! What other choice did gon have to snap like he did? Gon was literally staring death in the face and he wasn’t scared at all, just angry. So consumed by his rage and hatred of pitou that he didn’t even value his life. It maybe immature and foolish but d@mn it, I think it’s very respectable. Especially because gon single-handedly (..get it?..) beat a royal guard. Gon vs pitou really reminds me of gohan vs cell because they’re both two examples of morally good children having their worldview challenged and turn to darkness. Pitou is an incredible villain but I never “liked” pitou for who they are as a character. I like pitou for their function in the series and their character writing but I HATE pitou for the person that they are. It’s concerning to me how so many people don’t understand gon because I think the way he felt in that moment is relatable. Gon’s intentions may have seemed to be driven by malice towards pitou but gon’s intentions always felt right to him. He never doubted himself and that’s why I think he’s not inconsistent with his morality.
When Gon was healed he should have remained in an adult body. The price he paid to elevate his power to the pinnacle of his power should have been his teenage years
Love the vid ✨️👍 but gon didn't inspire luffy. One piece is older than hunter x hunter. Actually the 1st chapter of one piece inspired togashi u can check it out
The utubers and viewers using the word humanity against gon are just shallow minded individuals, posing as critical thinkers without thinking the latter is just a child.
Pitou wasn’t evil, pitou was just an animal acting on animal instinct. If a wild animal killed a person, no one would deem the animal ‘evil’, at that point in the story pitou was much the same. Out of all the royal guards, pitou actually arguably gains the most humanity by the end of the arc
@reevo59 She was most certainly evil. She had no reason to torture and kill Kite. She did it for her own selfish desires. That is the epitome of evil. Killing him to protect the king would have made sense instinctually. But torturing and killing him? Pure evil.
@@Dee-nonamnamrson8718Characters wanting to test their strenght are plentiful, why not just do it with an enemy? Kite did use ants to train the boys. Also, It's not like Kite felt any "torture" as he was already dead when Pitou used his body. Literal cat behavior.
@@Dee-nonamnamrson8718 I'd argue the hours old non-human cat ant behaving on instinct is way different morally than a serial killer doing it to one of their own species. Though, Pitou's actions did have more purpose to it rather than purely for shits and giggles.
The adults that let a super powered 12 year old join an assassination mission are the morally gray ones. Gon is just a realistically written child.
Even before that, why we 12 year old hunters running around d
Yeah when you take a step back and think about it, it's like where are the regulations??

I never even realized that gon and killua were twelve. I just assume they were the same age as kurapika, and leorio
@@KindaAverageArtist its funny you mention leorio because i thought he was a middle aged man when i first saw him but he's 19

Yeah not enough gets said about how Gon basically gives up on life after he thinks he failed
Agreed. He was just a kid. A very talented kid but a kid

treating a child like an adult because they are "strong" will result in shit like hunter x hunter CA ark
Great essay! I know a lot of Hxh fans have become tired of the monster comparison to Gon. Thanks for talking about it!

I don’t think “monster” sometimes means “monster”. Like Gohan in the Cell Saga. Gob’s a monster because he looked like a BEAST against Pitou.
The chimera ant arc is my favourite arc in fiction but i feel like the succession war might change my mind hunter x hunter is so good lol

Gon did nothing wrong outside of the self sacrifice. He let pitou heal the girl enough for her to survive. Pitou was evil and needed to die.

@satiz7800 Everyone has immoral and self-serving desires. You could make the same excuse for a serial killer that you are making for pitou.
