The Vinyl Voyage
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ม.ค. 2024
I love to talk about all things music related!
Here at The Vinyl Voyage I show my favourite records from different genres. I've had an eclectic taste in music since I was knee high to a turntable, but mostly talk about classic rock, psychedelic music, uk indie, folk or anything that sounds a bit different. I also love digging for records in the wild, so will be showing any sweet collections that I unearth. I'm hoping to be a regular contributor within the fantastic vinyl community and discover more great music along the way.
So, if you're a musical explorer like myself, who likes to discover new albums then subscribe now and get onboard The Vinyl Voyage!

The Excitement of Record Delivery Day
Nice to see. Spirit in the sky has the coolest fuzz guitar sound ever recorded. People have tried to recreate it but without luck. Apparently the guitar they used was a custom built, and it was stolen. So noone knows how they did it. 😊
Yowsah: some wild stuff here that takes me back to my college radio DJ days, Jack. Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine-holy cow! Fishbone I saw live a few times back in the late 80's. PWEI, another one I forgot about. Some easy ones to sell there that people will definitely want. 😎🎶
Nice stuff including local boys to me PWEI - who are a legendary round here - lots of t shirts bearing the PWEI logo in Stourbridge!
This has been a good haul Jack. Lots of good stuff to keep & they look like they're in pretty good condition. American Stars and Bars is a ripper imho. Love the Stranglers early stuff too. Paris Hilton will love all of those 12"s. I love that era of The The. Not a bad rhythm section that Grace had. Nice Triffids pick up. Calenture is a very good record. Get's a bit overshadowed by Born Sandy Devotion. Sound FX of Death & Horror would be a good one to clear out the house at the end of a party. Love the Jones Stones more the older I get. Tangerine Dream Rubycon is great & very easy to find. They must have pressed a lot. Nice one mate 👍
Cheers Ben! Still working my way through this haul. On the first video from this haul I showed Dead Can Dance album The Serpent’s Egg. Hadn’t heard of them before, but I’d imagine you have. Not my usual listen, but it’s grown on me. Still to give Calenture a proper listen, but confident I’ll enjoy that one. For me, the Stones hardly put a foot rock up to Its Only Rock n Roll… then things start to get a bit patchy. The Jones period was my favourite as a kid. Cheers for watching, Jack
'Serpent's Egg' was the 1988 album from the Australian group, Dead Can Dance, Jack.
Cheers Nick, I’ve listened to that album a few times now. My first reaction was “where’s the guitars?”… but I think it’s grown on me. Not quite made my mind up though on whether it’ll stay or not.
I'am glad you didn't keep your New Year's resolution for very long. Jack
😂 Massive fail, Nick! Bought loads early January too 😣 I’ve not bought an album in February… yet.
Wow more cool records! I’d def hold onto those Stranglers LPs and the Fishbone! Love that stuff! Again what a great haul! Happy for you! Those scores don’t come around too often! ✌️👽
Hey Brian, I'll keep the Stranglers, but the Fishbone are away tomorrow night. Haven't really heard them before, but needed to recoup the money and break even. Yep, you gotta jump on those scores when they come around. I'll probably keep about 50-60 for the collection and sell the rest. I've a fair bit left to sell which will go towards some tasty psychedelic treats that I'm keen to pick-up. Cheers, Jack
What a score!!! I bought a copy of that ltd PJ Harvey 'Dry' LP when it came out and didn't appreciate it as much at the time as i would've now. Sold it years ago for a great price..........it's tripled in value since 🙃If you got a copy of Sunhouse 'Crazy On The Weekend' in there i've got a loving home that would welcome it with open arms 😉
Hey Jay, was spinning that PJ Harvey the other day and liked it. It's gonna sit in my collection for a while before I decide whether its a keeper or not. I sold loads of cool stuff back in the early 90s, sellers regret now! Sorry, no Sunhouse I'm afraid. Cheer for watching, Jack
Loads I’d love to have and keep in that bunch Jack. Not a lot of naff 😊
Hey Morten, in the whole lot, there was probably only about 20-30 naff records. The rest were pretty good. Cheers, Jack
@ Awesome 😊
Definitely keep the Triffids
Hi Robert. Oh yeah, that's one for keeping. Just need to get it cleaned up and looking forward to a listen. Cheers, Jack
Nice Jack 👍 😊
Cheers David!
Hi jack been listening to fishzer z recently bit under appreciated.. I’m after more triffids I only have 1 album by them at the moment thanks for sharing 👍
Hey Rob, I need to get those Fischer Z albums cleaned still. I like the cover art though. One more week of organising these records and then hopefully that's them all cleaned. Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
I’m so pleased you have decided to record Part II of your epic haul in Dundee! Looking forward to watching, mate and seeing what other treasures you managed to acquire 😊👍 Best wishes, Christian
Cheers Christian! The big treasures have already been shown. However, some good little odds and sods amongst this lot too. To be honest, looking forward to getting it all sorted so that I can just go back to listening again!
@ Looking forward to seeing the odds and sods, and I know exactly what you mean about having that need to get some listening done! I’ll keep everything crossed you get the time to have a well-deserved vinyl sesh sooner rather than later 😊🤞🤞 Best wishes, Christian
I was hoping there'd be a part 2 cause I was thinking you'd have picked up some of my favourites and sure enough you did ..Renegade Soundwave, Pop Will Eat Itself and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
It's been a lot of fun going through these, Darrell. I liked the Renegade Soundwave record too. Cheers for watching, Jack
I’m a fan of Spirit from my teens. Have you listened to the Randy California Helicopters album I’m curious about your impressions Jack. Thanks. Greg
Hi Greg. I've a feeling I got this out the library as a teenager along with 12 Dreams and a Spirit Best of. I'll need to give it a clean up and a listen before I report back! Cheers, Jack
Plenty of good stuff to mull over Jack, you did well with the entire collection 👍👍👍
Cheers Nick! Another week and it should hopefully all be cleaned and organised!
Hi Jack! All new to me what you showed. I met FVA and his wife at my party last July. Wonderful folks!
Hey Mike, your party has got to be the Vinyl Community social event of the year!!!!
That story with the other collector was brutal but so funny. Great haul
Cheers Frenchy. You're right, so many great albums in that haul. The cutthroat side of record digging 😂 I've got to know the other collector since I put out that video. He's a real nice guy and a real music enthusiast... he even watches the channel! Cheers for watching, Jack
Sorry aim a bit late to this one but you had me at Psych Albums! I found that Fallen Angels LP a few years back and I haven’t spun it in quite awhile so thanks for the reminder so I can give it a listen soon. When I first joined the VC around 7 yrs ago, everyone was talking about how they all wanted that Gandalf LP. You hardly ever seen it shown but there was always talk about it. A few yrs later I walked into my local RS and there it was front & center in the New Arrivals bin! I couldn’t grab it up fast enough! It was a reissue but the strange part was that this was before the big rerelease on RSD. So I’m not exactly sure if the one I have is an official release or not but it appears it is. Confusing but anyway I love it It’s one of my go to psych albums! Blossom Toes is a fairly new get for me as well! I love it! Great Brit Psych! Now Banana Gun I’ve not heard of so I’ll def check that not am I familiar with Demis Rousso but it looks promising so I’ll keep that in my list! Great shares Jack! Peace ✌️👽
Hey Brian, I find that any video titled "psychedelic ...." it's always a favourite. It's the third golden age of psych at the moment! I played that Gandalf album not stop over Christmas, the same with the Fallen Angels... magic stuff. The Bananagun is a real mix of influences, I wouldn't say straight out psychedelic as theirs prog, jazz and afrobeat influences in there too. Certainly an interesting listen though. If you like Aphrodite's Child, I'm sure you'd like the Demis Roussos.... it's easy listening and poppy. I've bought loads of new psych stuff recently so need to do another video soon. Cheers for watching buddy, Jack
Nice haul. Great collection. This would be a crazy coincidence but you mention the Neil Young Zuma was a US press and I saw LMK initials on the top corner... I'm in the states (south east) I have used records in my collection that have LMK on them. That would be a great "small world" coincidence, if they are from the same collector. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Robert, think that Zuma is actually from Italy. You never know it's a small world. Many thanks for watching and commenting, Jack
An amazing haul Jack. Some great classic first editions but those 90’s albums are so rare and hold a great price. Worth the 3h drive then? I hope they were so stoned you got them for a snip!
Many thanks Jon! Yep, those 90s albums were the pick of the bunch. Just listening to the Frank Black solo album at the moment... sounds perfect! Definitely worth the drive, a bit more than a snip, but a very very good price! Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
Strewth! You have been busy so early in the year. The Vinyl Vault channel got a hell of a haul in a charity shop recently. I'm green with envy.🤢
Cheers Bruce, got lucky with this one!!! I'll need to check out the Vinyl Vaults haul... sounds good. Keep on searching, the treasure is out there!
Hi Jack what a fantastic haul. Definitely worth the journey to pick them up. I haven't seen the plastic wrapper for "Wish you were here" for years. Mine disappeared a long time ago. Cheers Mike👍
Oh yes, Mike! It's been a lot of fun sorting out this collection. The plastic outer for WYWH is pretty ripped, but at least the sticker is intact. I'll probably just stick to my remastered copy to be honest.
Oh wow, Zooropa on vinyl. Wish I had the Farm too, it disappeared on me years ago. Sorry, short comment, on my way out for some much needed human interaction. Cheers Jack. Amazing amazing haul/find.
Cheers Morten. It's good to get away from the record player from time to time! Hope you are well buddy, Jack
@ Tough days, but nice to see good people have luck in their hunt for great music Jack 😊
Amazing Haul. Any place to buy these online ? Interested in some of them if they are for sale.
Many thanks Darren! I will probably just sell them locally to be honest. Which records were you keen on?
@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf The Alice in Chains and a couple others
Congratulations on this monster haul! Fantastic video & great scores!
Cheers Anthony! A positive start to 2025s record hunting and a nasty blow to my bank balance.
This is amazing in every way Jack! I would’ve probably had a toke and hung out for a while with the sellers. Patty says I’m easily distracted. 😂 I bet that Fugazi is worth a few bucks. Charlatans Some Friendly is a favorite of mine from that time but mine is on CD. Infected! Yoko! That’s an excellent live Marley album.
Hey Mike, yep this collection was just unreal. Loads of great stuff to dig through... I've just scratched the surface to be honest. Had Some Friendly on last night... it's straight into my collection. Tonight I had on that early press of Meddle.. sounded fantastic. If I'd hung out with those old hippies and shared their "party cigarettes" I probably wouldn't have made it home in one piece. I'll stick to the whisky!
I got a semi watching that.
I'm not surprised!
Played your video in the car on the commute to and from work today, Jack. I kept saying out loud multiple times, "Sell those bad boys!" Some great stuff there, and we're on the same page with The Charlatans. Those first few LPs of theirs are excellent. Hopefully, you caught up on some sleep this past weekend 😎🎶
😂 I got limited sleep over the weekend. Too excited digging in to the collection. I've washed loads of it now and sold a bit, so going to keep more than I first thought! Cheers for tuning in and commenting, Ed!
I think the band is Dead can dance and the album is serpant's egg. I remember buying it out of a bargain bin back in the day because it was on 4ad, I didn't like it, but I think they do have a following.
Hi Gussie, I believe you are right. It was mental what you could pick up in a bargain bin back in the day. I like a lot of stuff on 4AD too, however, don't really remember Dead Can't Dance so not sure if I'll enjoy this. Only one way to find out... cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf Totally, that reminded me actually of consciously passing over a white label promo 7" of supersonic by oasis in a bin, in the mid nineties because i'd seen them on the creation records package tour the week before and did not think they deserved the hype!...still don't TBH.
This haul is like a dream come true! I can only hope. I have been looking for Blue Nile records for ages. Dead Can Dance is really great!. I may have to move to Scotland!
Do it! You'll love the weather, shitey football and Scottish cuisine. Was spinning the Blue Nile tonight after a clean. Got Music From The Body on now... an interesting listen!
Your videos are never a waste/ click bait. Love the haul for its diversity and having all those heavy hitters--a digger's dream.
Many thanks! Yep, a dream find indeed... just need the time to listen and enjoy it now! Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
If you bought this collection for under 4K I would be impressed.
Hey Tim, I got it for a very good price indeed!
Janes Addiction is worth a few pound.
Yeah, worth a few pound. Never been a big fan of JA.
There's a great track on Ultramarine's United Kingdoms called Happy Land, sung by Robert Wyatt. A lot of records here that take me back to my misspent youth like Astralasia and the Ambient Dub series. And Chill Out, wow.
Hi James, my eyes almost popped out went I saw Chill Out! I don't know much of this ambient stuff, but I've liked what I've listened to so far. I'm just cleaning Ultramarine now so will have a listen.
I want to watch this but I can't understand a single word he's saying.
Stick on the subtitles my friend.
Let me know if you want a new home for those Doors records- I may be interested if the price is right? 👍
Hi Tim, I'm gonna keep a good few myself. Got them on cd, but nice to have on vinyl. Cheers for watching, Jack
A great collection but how much did you had to pay for it?
Hey, just paid what I was comfortable paying. The couple were happy and so was I. That's the best type of monetary negotiation.
You should do us a "Part 2"!
I might just do that! I've shown the best stuff but still plenty of lesser seen records.
You jammy barstool! I'm more than a little envious. Did you find out why they were getting rid?
😂 Cheers Gary! Yes, their children had moved out and they'd downsized to a small flat. The boxes of records took up the whole living room. The guy just needed the space and he said that streaming worked better for him now. That stage of life when it was time to let them go, I suppose.
Wow Jack. Such phenomenal titles there !!! And the makings of a great record store start-up. Honestly you have got the credentials , and if you really have a dream to make it happen that would be just fantastic !!! Cheers for now. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Hi Peter, it really was a tremendous haul! I think it's too risky a venture for me. The collecting interests me more than the selling! 😆
I totally get you there , it's the buzz of not quite knowing what you're going to get that's fantastic as a collector.. Awesome Jack. 👍👍🎵🎵
Nice work Jack 👍
Many thanks Simon!
Love your storytelling, Jack! More, please, you're a natural. Congratulations on the perseverance, it paid off. I adore An American Prayer, no matter what anyone says, the perfect album for an impressionable teenager! Cheers! 🙏
Ha ha! Many thanks Brian! Love American Prayer. I'm away to give it a spin now! Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
Wow your dedication paid off ! How do you find these people ? Facebook marketplace? Glad you didn’t get a Glasgow Kiss when leaving ❤ amazing finds
😂 I kinda realised as I was doing the wash up video that it was about 11pm and I was in a less than hospitable area of Dundee with a boot full of records! I search every listing I can find! You never know what you'll find. I've found records in the some really unlikely place.
@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf I salute your dedication 💥💥💥
600 records in one haul...you're making us all feel better about ourselves Jack.. Fishbone are a pretty interesting band, I discovered them a bit just last year.
😂 I might not even listen to Fishbone in case I like it... I really need to recoup a bit of money. My keep pile keeps getting bigger and bigger. I'll probably keep about 60 of the records for my own collection. I'm definitely on the straight and narrow now for a few months!
Congrats on the absolute heat… insane stuff. Dead Can Dance is the band.. The Serpents Egg is the album name…. That should fetch u a nice return
Many thanks Cody! Yep a lovely collection. Dead Can Dance sound familiar, but I've never heard them. I'll try and give it a spin over the next few days. I've got a lot to work through! Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment, Jack
Whoa nelly! Good Alt Rock scores. You'll be glad you braved the fog.
A wise man once said, "He who dares!" I been wading through it today, sorting what to keep and what to move on. My keep pile is getting bigger and bigger. Cheers for watching Hedley!
It was so satisfying seeing your reaction to finding Heaven or Las Vegas. So many eye poppers and it’s great to see you give it that higher reverence
An album that I've loved since I was around 15... so brilliant to pick up a copy! Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
Man. It’s vital to be the first one at the house.
Definitely!
Of course by Sun Dial!
Cheers, just reading about them now... that's another for my want list!
