Beautiful playing, Pedro! As a professional piano tuner, I tend to listen for harmonics within a vibrating piano string or column of air. In the Second movement of Dvorak's 9th Symphony in concert Db, the maple and violet wood english horns' melodies tended to highlight the THIRD harmonics (Octave plus fifth), except at times the maple emphasized the second harmonic on concert Ab4; in contrast, the ROSEWOOD english horn tended to emphasize the second harmonics (octave harmonics) of the melody. The Grenadilla wood alternated between third- and second harmonics being emphasized. Interestingly, despite the vibrato you created with your lips, the harmonics tended not to follow the tremolo/vibrato in pitch and loudness. Cheers, Joe

I also play music and an audiophile and speaker building enthuiast. I deal with single driver speakers with an added stereo speaker woofer. But upper bass is still fed into the FR driver as well. I run an open FR driver on top of the box, with a woofer in the box. Good for both musical worlds, like doof-doof and string quartet. Perfect for any type of music. And they still sound point source and if there is any reverb in a recording, you are going to hear it! 😅

The main reason the maker doesn't have tweeters is cos without them, the speakers are point source. Since they go up high enough.

On photography: same with me. I was changing cameras and brands all the time. Then I bought a Leica M camera and some wonderful Leica lenses. Since then I am happy with my equipment. I am also a proud Gryphon Diablo 300 owner. It‘s the Leica of the Hifi world.

I live in a condo and just wanted a hint of low end. I am not a bass head. I have Sonus faber Lumia 2's and don't really need a sub, but after watching Steve guttenberg say this is a subwoofer for people that don't like subwoofers. I also saw a video where it made Magnepan LRS+'s sound even More Amazing. My REL Zero will be here in 2 days.

I have heard the Gryphon Essence stereo power amp, albeit fed by their separate two-box preamp, and I honestly felt as you did about the Diablo. The 120 version also sounds superb, albeit not quite so overwhelming.

In order of my preference, it's 1, 2, 4, 3. Strangely, I feel I have often preferred Rosewood (veneered) speakers to any others for clarity, but here I've placed that wood last. I liked the clarity, emotion and tiny dynamic details of the Maple, the Violet was less detailed and warmer, especially lower down the scale. The Grenadilla seemed less natural-sounding than either but the most even and perhaps the best all-round and most versatile. Finally, I thought the Rosewood a bit bland. I would love to hear you playing any of them, however, in real life. Thanks for another very absorbing video, Pedro. PS I listened through my phone/wifi via X150.8 and Harbeth 40.3XD (Walnut!).

Pass Labs is indeed a rich seam to be mined. Two ACAs can be used as a pair of monos for the extra power and there is a range of First Watt Class A power amps around the 20 wpc mark which are also reputed to sound magical. Very informative Pedro, thanks.

I have a very good dac but would like an " analog " but refigned with full body source. Is this your reference cd player ? Thank you again

I like the Celestions - but speakers of this vintage would definitely need to be re-capped to hear how they are meant to sound.

Since you also have Pass Labs gear, I wonder whether you have any insights as to how the Gryphon Diablo 300 compares to the Pass Labs INT-250?

market driven, I wish more consumers cared enough to so that he wouldn't have to sell dumbed down product to make a living. Low level amplification is very difficult , so a more powerful signal is an advantage right from the start .

Hello. I just ordered the Linton's but am having cold feet. I think I should cancel the order. I have never heard so many conflicting views on a speaker before. Did you do any modifications to this speaker for this review?

Good review. I am using the ifi Zen Phono. Great product if you use Balanced and with their Ifi Power Supply.

What preamp did you use with the power amps?

I have a 90’s integrated Sony amp with Klipsch rp-500m speakers. I absoultely enjoy them in mid/small size room, but sometimes I miss the low end. Do you think this will help to extend them a bit?

I am a low volume listener. I have heard the Maggies, but have also heard that they do not play well at low volumes. What do you think? I would like to hear the Sibelius. How do you think they perform at low volumes? Did you try the REL with the Sibelius? Thank you for the excellent YT channel.

Nice review. I have owned a pair of the Sibelius for a couple of years now. I am an amateur viola d'amore player in full baroque set-up. You are spot on re the natural rendition of acoustic instruments, and even the room. With the Sibelius I heard for the first time "the room" in some recordings, which I always thought to be audiophile nonsense talk. -- Re cables, you can also order bare wire and connect the bare wire to the posts on speaker and amp (PassLabs XA25 in my case). -- I also listen to darkwave, electronica and punk. I like how the Sibelius renders the music, and have noticed that some of punk records are actually very well recorded for spatial imaging.-- Re sub, I tried adding REL x9, but after much fiddling, I disconnected it again, because I could never get it to sound cohesive, particularly in the time domain. I have to say, that I am rather bass averse.
