Have a D850 that I don’t want to lug around on a vacation later this year / looking for a smaller, lighter travel camera that won’t break the bank…so anything Nikon that starts with a number greater than 7 is ruled out….at this time. The D850 obviously sets the bar high but know it will be a give and take scenerio going with an older mirrorless. Would love to hear thoughts on experiences with this since this video came out.

What you are feeling at the focus ring is typical for the Budget AF-Nikkors and that 50mm f1.8 is probably the least expensive Nikon lens offered. If you want the sharpest 50mm Nikon offered in the F mount you need to go back to the 50mm f2 Nikkor-H, first released in 1965 within 3 weeks of the 50mm f2 Summicron and rumored to be a cooperative design by Leitz and Nikon. Because these two lenses featured an identical design diagram and were optically twins. Around the multicoated 50mm Nikkor-HC was released and the H designation was dropped around 1976 but the lens production was continued until the much less expensive 50mm f1.8 was released in 1978. While a bit hard to find if you can locate one of the later multicoated versions it's a real gem. As for image quality, mine dates to 1967 and the contrast is a touch lacking at f2 but stop it down to f2.8 or smaller and it produces S line Quality. In simple terms it's a match for my Z 24-120 S set at 50mm.

1:38 MY FRIEND! DO NOT rotate the focus ring manually while it's set to AF. It will damage the focusing motor in your F5. You can only do that with AF-S lenses, and even with those lenses, I still don't and wouldn't do it.

This is the third lens I bought for my D200 back then. Still have and use it. It is so light and fits in your pocket easily.

This is the version of the 50mm that I have, pleasantly surprised by how decent the image quality is.

Nice one! A note regarding the aperture-blades: It has 7 straight blades, and the upside for artistic purposes is the awesome sunstars. Try this lens stopped down and you can create some beautiful and artistic pictures with fantastic looking 14 pointing sunstars of the sun / street lights and so on. I've used this lens for this purpose, and also used the old 28-70 f/3.5-4.5D For the same reason with its even more impressive 18 pointed sunstars (9 straight blades)

Love the video - But you cant have too many lenses The 60mm AFD macro is even better (and more useful) That lens should be smoother - may have been dropped. Because of contacts you may not have AF on Z but you do have focus confirmation. I'm often amazed how well some old tech works... 🦘

Any advice on which Nikon camera to get for wildlife photography? I'm not making money with my photos. I simply just want to post them on my Instagram page for people to admire. So photography is just a hobby for me. I've been using a D3100 so I know a major upgrade is needed. I do however want to stay with DSLR cameras.

I have two wishes from Nikon: 1. central shutter and flash sync up to 1/8000th ces 2. Zoom lens 20-90mm f/2 and yes I am waiting for the 35mm 1.2 or 1.00

I just bought a Zf (love it) and now seeking something smaller and lighter. I’ve invested in a fair amount of S glass. Will these lenses work well with the Z50II? Just at a crop FOV? I think I’m better off with the Z5. But the Z50 II is sure to sell well.

There should be some discussion on green flags. It's more of a general mutual respect thing, but in TFP and even professional situations I wish more models would talk to others about their positive experiences when they show off the work that came out of the session. There is more to it than just letting the work speak for itself. Its so much more credible just posting testimonials or trying to reach out to others on your own and it costs literally nothing for them to do.

Still z50ii is awesome camera. If your wallet is full then it's a different story. I would rather buy z50ii and invest rest of the money in exotic primes of Nikon If you have

have not watched yet, but just looking at the bunch, it's a crime nikon decided not to add the golden ring to their best lenses in the lineup (the 1.2s, the plena, even the usual 2.8 zooms, maybe: 14-24, 24-70,70-200, as they are amazing) Those super telephotos have a certain flair because of it, IMO. Also, as someone who's been away for a while, some of them are very hard to tell apart. I remember G lenses being very recognizable from one another.

This lens would be a good match for the Z50II for a travel photographer who doesn't want to carry much gear.

Nah, the Zeiss 135mm F2 Z.F2 is waaay better, it's miles ahead of the Nikon. As I read once on a forum "The Zeiss is a God and the 135 is a minion if that". 44 on DxoMark, "Unsurpassed Moderate Telephoto" as they put it, insane sharpness. You don't have a single video on the Zeiss 135mm F2, do a side by side to the Nikon and you might revisit this video.

About as fast as the Plena, I guess, in T value. DxO Mark did not test this one, but the 105/2 DC has T=2.2 and only 2 micrometer chromatic aberration. I would expect the 135/2 DC to be comparable. Sharpness and vignetting are sort of mediocre. But distortion is very good. Best matched to the 24MP full frame cameras. My current favourite in the 100..135 range is my Z 105mm/2.8S macro lens. It does not suppress focus breathing and at 1:1 closest distance it becomes a 160mm/4.3 - or at 1.5..2 metres it will be close to 135.

I absolutely love my copy. I got it on a steal of a deal, $200 for this lens and a 180mm 2.8 1st version (plastic). Yeah, both of them have heavy dust on each of the elements, but they don't show up at F2, where I usually shoot at. I've shot this on the D700 and my D3S and OMG, the colors are insane. One of my all time favorite portraits was with this lens and the D700. It's wicked sharp, the compression is to die for, I honestly can't say enough good things about this lens. I'm hoping to get it serviced one of these days, but it's such an incredible lens. I'll add the 105 DC to my collection, but i'm seriously so happy with this lens. Treating this lens well, it'll outlast me and I hope it can be a lens I can pass down to my kids.

I have 105 dc in pristine condition,anyone wants can have it for 450 usta . I have moved to mirroless.

That is not the King of Bokeh, My Carl Zeiss Apo Sonnar T* 135mm f/2 smokes the Nikon DC lens in all image quality.

I still use the 105 dc on portrait sessions. There is no substitution for it's ability to render depth due to the low element count, while having no ed or aspherical glass elements it is still sharp at f2 and the bokeh balls are twice the size of lenses of it's focal length. The manual focus has confirmation on the z cameras when using the ftz2. Like the angry photog said, it is the best portrait lens ever made :)

I have the 105mm version. Also pretty good but wide open so f2 a bit soft. But yeah my D850 has lenses for breakfast. From f2.8 no problem.

I have a Zf and I want a second Nikon Z body that I can use as a more ergonomic backup and also give to my girlfriend when she shoots with me. I can’t decide Z5 or Z6II? I could save up for a Z6III, but if I go Z5 or Z6II I can get another lens or two. Is the Z6II good for paid portraits? That’s what I do. Paid headshots and portraits. Is the Z6II decent af for portraits? Also is the Z6 and Z6II same sensor? And Z5? “Hates sports, shoots in single point, and refuses to do weddings ever again.” See also: ME! I had a Nikon F4. It was like carrying a brick.

Where would the 35mm 1.4 Z fall? I think Juicy? That lens is better than the 35 1.8S, in my opinion. I only shot it briefly at the camera store with a model friend but it has better color and character than the 1.8S, and it’s significantly cheaper.

I haven't watched this yet but just the fact that this video exists is so helpful. I'm not a beginner at all but I just purchased my first Nikon Mirrorless (I had Sony mirrorless and other DSLR Nikons). I already have the 180-600mm for wildlife but I need something for portraiture and events.

Isn't the Z50ii a D500 replacement though 😅 If not it, then the Z8 in DX mode is literally like 4x the camera of the D500. Sounds like the I want Z9 performance for 25% the cost 🤣

why nikon never release standart zoom dx lens that have fixed apperture with VR. (since all z dx body has no IBIS) i mean look sony, they have sony e16-70mm F4 ZA OSS

The Plan is a beautiful lens and I love mine but I can't wait till Nikon releases a 35mm 1.2!
