@RJHeating I was only joking with you but yes it is 2.5 for some reason I remember it's 2.5 and 4mm but I can't remember the wife's name lol
I was told by ideal not to clean the injector like that as they said it takes the coating off but to just wipe it over and put a soft brush through it
@@charliewillis8527 I have heard that, but to be honest, always test after and tests perfectly. It’s mad how bad they get!

I use a spare 13mm nut on its own and screw the top plate down so far and then get the fan and top manifold in and swung into place, then take the nut off and put in the nut with retaining plate. Hope that makes sense!
@@ryandow3954 yep! Makes sense, out of interest, how comes you don’t use the retaining nut?
@RJHeating I can never get it to sit right so I can get the fan in 🤣 so I just use a nut on its own and that way the retaining plate doesn't get in the way. I've just always found that way easier 😎

Usually I do, this time I just felt like living dangerously 🤣🤣 usually I don’t even bother with the internal stopcock and head straight to the one in the road 😂

Reffer here Yes those discharge lines go in the tray so when unit is on those lines get hot and should disperse the water made So they say but on hydrocarbon fridges them lines don't really get hot enough and if unit makes too much water due to say door seals a crap or door accidentally left open it can't get rid of the water hence the tray overflowing Another reason is the back of the fridge is getting to cold icing up So when this defrost more water than normal goes into said tray Could be compressor but most likley its sprung a leak and that will cause the unit to not operate properly
@@robgraham1204 thank you so much for giving the info! I’m way out of my depth with it and to be honest, only had a look as it’s a regular client - I’ve sucked out the water in the tray and it’s been fine for a week. She said the doors not been left open and usually, if it is, an alarm goes off to alert you which she’s not had. I’m keen to learn more and FGas is definitely on the cards for the hopefukky near future! It’s been there for a year or two with no issues so presume installation and ventilation is all ok for it but you’d definitely know more than me!
You heating guys will be quing up for the f gas what with the influx of heat pumps Note these fridges run on hydrocarbon refrigerants Which are highly flammable F gas will be OK for the heat pumps But to work on units like this with hydrocarbons you will need another course normally a day I would stay away from this if fridge work is only something you will occasionally do Entirely up to you though
@ nope, I’m in agreement, happy to steer well clear 🤣🤣 I would ideally just like to service and repair air con units 🤣
Congrats on the 1k buddy. Well deserved.

@@RJHeating no worries . Enjoying the content .. keep it going . You'll hit big numbers soon.. also why do you not like those expansion vessels ? You know you can swing the tray round right ? Take the igniter off with the screws and swing the collector tray round and get to it easy..
@ fingers crossed! Funnily enough, I have none of these boilers on my books at all, and had 2 new customers today, same boiler, different clients! I pulled on the tray on the first one because I thought that but it felt a little tight so I didn’t want to break it. I’m pretty sure I’ve just taken the front screw out the bracket before and wedged it up to replace though!
Thank you 🙏🏾

I didn't understand how you diagnosed the blue wire not connected, neutral to grey(permanent live)240v, neutral to live240v, neutral to switch live (orange) 240v, s plan that's how I would do it same with the earth just to be on the safe side
@@hali5341 it wasn’t through testing, I was just moving the wires about with my screwdriver and saw it was loose - I’d knocked it out when replacing the CH zone valve last week. When putting back in, the DHW neutral had gone behind terminal rather than in it so looked in - and naively didn’t check the water as I was working on the CH circuit! Also, when live testing, I generally test earth to lives unless I’m checking polarity
Cheers

Could you please do vid on wiring hives?
@@lostinthoughtscalminsilenc8167 hi, thanks for watching! I don’t often fit Hive anymore, funnily enough had one a week before Christmas, I do actually have one at home so will see what I can do! Stay tuned!!
@ nice mate!
@ I’ll put it on the list! They used to all wire in similarly but the EPH & ESi have changed their terminals now! If it’s helpful at all, you’ll have N, L, 1 is your common (you can put a link into the live for this), then 3 is your switch live back to the boiler (CH ON), or on a 2 channel, 3 is your DHW on and 4 is your CH on!
@@RJHeating why do sometimes you need to link mate?
@ often just easier putting a link between the L & Common/1 rather than trying to fit an extra wire into the L terminal back at the boiler. Some boilers have a live out/LS like the Worcesters but some don’t like Vaillant which only has an RT which is the switch live back to the boiler (3 in most controllers)
Great video man, love how you’ve got the bag set up! I’m a veto man but love this ❤
@@Helixplumbingandheating cheers mate! Haha you’ll be happy to know the breakdown bag in the other video is a Veto. To give credit where it’s due, they’re both great bags! A few adjustments I’d make but nothing major! I love being able to keep the analyser probe out the way on this one - nothing worse than that getting tangled in your tools!
I use spirits of salts to clean heat exchangers, but don't leave in too long. It's actually hydrochloric acid so be careful 👍
@@SteveN-pw4dj SoS is great stuff! I used to use that but switched to One Shot which works well too. This time I didn’t have any on me and nowhere local had any 😩 to be fair, this one seemed to work aswell! Appreciate you watching!
New laws have reduced Spirits of salt down to 10% content, making it bloody useless ! I have found a new supplier where I can buy good old 36% SOS's but you have to show that you are a business user and sign declarations of usage and safe storage 😁

@ na, had to give back the analyser but everything else I was allowed to keep. Even the A Frame extending ladder but leant that to someone which that mysteriously went missing 🙄 even got a socket n see somewhere just have no idea if I still have it!
Im guessing the other person wanted to install a new boiler for the customer by giving a ridiculous price for a repair..
@@macpatel7810 funnily enough they didn’t even offer a boiler quote so I think just trying to sting the client! Would have been a pain of an install, vertical flue on the 6th floor! On average I can do the vessel with boiler off the wall in around 45 mins - 1 hour and will replace the PRV and usually whip the plate off and give it a clean out whilst it’s exposed too!
Good vid dude 👍 Personally…… If it’s cutting out on a HW demand, I’d do a fan pressure test first. Wouldn’t bother cleaning a plate heat exchanger, adding chemicals blah blah. Just replace the plate! Good man, good vid 👌
@@customhoused4335 I didn’t have one on me or anywhere local to get one from so clean out was the best option. If was showing all the signs of a blocked plate so jumped straight in - thankfully, all good since! Thanks for watching!

@@ian.M440 cheers Ian! Hope you’re well!
Great video on what you did with the cleaner! The engineer, Geoffrey Needs, created a walkthrough video about adding cleaner to the boiler to clean the plate heat exchanger. As an ex-BG engineer, I know that was something they wanted us to do, but I didn't have 20 minutes to wait. Regarding the expansion vessel, my guess is that someone saw the needle on the pressure gauge bouncing and assumed it was an issue with the vessel.
@@gasfitter78 you’d think a little bit of actual work would have gone into a paid diagnosis though, well I would! Still, a new client gained for me! I’ll check out his video - thank you! Unfortunately, often when you work for companies it’s all time based and never enough to do your job properly!
Agree always diagnose yourself. Cover your back. Maybe the other engineer was looking to make money by doing unnecessary work🤷🏼♂️
@@russellbaldry5095 sounds like it, especially quoting £1k for it. I’m all for making money but then there’s raking the proverbial! Hope you’re good mate! Thank you for watching!
@ absolutely! Yeah all good mate. Had to inform a customer they need a new heat exchanger(ideal logic) warranty literally ran out 4 months ago! Logics one of my favs but not seen this before, pin hole on the outside of the main block😵
@ ooh I’ve not seen that either! Any chance Ideal will honour it? May just get someone decent on the phone that helps them out! Spirit of Christmas still lingering and all that 🤞🏽
@ they did call Ideal but they didn’t know how bad it was at the time. Think Ideal just offered to send an engineer out at a cost but customer called me instead. Maybe if it was like a week out of warranty maybe they would have honoured still. New heat engine £435😵🙈
@ jeez!! Have you looked at used/recon? A place local to me does the vaillant ones so I’m sure ideal too and charge £100-150 which is a bit easier for the customer to swallow!
I use spirit of salt on the water to water exchanger cleanse within 5 mins ...
@@zali1457 I usually use One Shot which works in seconds but didn’t have any on me
Used to use that before as well as one shot. Spirits of salts is now really diluted and has virtually no acidic content anymore and is utterly useless even for drains..
@ interesting! I’ve not used it in ages, since switching to One Shot which has always been really good for me! Lethal if you breathe too close though!!
Yes, it’s always better to start from scratch with faults. A while ago I went to a customer with no heating. She insisted it was a faulty boiler because her wonderful handyman said so. She was actually cross when I diagnosed a faulty £15 room stat, it was like I’d deliberately slighted him.

Always check the fan bearing plate/membrane. When I service These I change electrode/gasket, fan bearing plate and condensate washer the dependent on age I might change the flue seals on the grey flue collector and top turret this all comes at a premium price though of between 200-250 plus vat.
If you pull the black casing rubber out of the way, you don't need to tighten the 13mm nut down - you can pull the plate down with your right hand. There is also no need to remove the thermistor 👍
