Great job with this project! I enjoyed seeing the different scenery steps. It is very inspirational. If I may be so bold to offer 2 bits of information. First, try using Scenic Cement along the creek bank. It seeps in better and won't give that "mushy" look. When pouring your water, pour in down a stirring stick to avoid most of the bubbles. Again, keep up the great work.
Beautiful work. 😎👍🏼
Way cool !!
Nicely done. Thanks for the experimental endeavor. Missed adding a shopping cart 🛒as part of your waterway jetsam.
Regarding the decoder address reset, I had the same issue. My BLI support reply was that there is a small reset button on the decoder. The problem was that one of the wires was pinched between the button and the body shell causing it to be always pressed. When you cycle the power to the unit, it resets back to defaults with the button pressed. The fix was to remove the shell and re-position the wire. Obviously we shouldn't have to fix issues like that from the factory, but that did fix it for me without replacing or repairing the decoder.
Try using real artist acrylics and a paint brush
What a fantastic video and I love the commentary that went with it
Excellent work on the scenery. Thank you for sharing.
We’re a great bunch eh, the human race. We have to put miniature crap all over the water feature because that’s what we leave about in real life - and it actually looks more realistic!
So true. How to add realism... add garbage to your layout.
I have never of such nonsense about cutting rails with Electrofrog turnouts. My electrofrog turnouts work 100% fine straight out of the box no problem at all. All that needs to be done is the use of insulated (plastic) rail joiners on both centre rails coming straight out of the frog and ensuring electrical connection at the entry rails into the turnout. I am NOT a fan of electrofrog turnouts and much prefer using unifrog turnouts.
I have never needed to use the jumper wire on any of my unifrog turnouts. They work fine straight out of the box.
Modpodge………..aWONDERFUL product
It came out looking great, but you said it really never dries. So what about dust. Will dust stick to it after a few days, weeks etc.
in my case, it is dry enough to touch with your finger so dust should not be an issue. Some Dust Off and/or a soft fan brush will likely be my choice cleaning method.
@@nscaler454 thanks
Yellow things in the dime-bag are re-railers as wheels would sometimes pick the switch and come off the track.
I fully agree with everyone, your work is beautiful. But unfortunately I think you are going to be very disappointed with the Realistic Water. A friend of mine was ruined by dirt dust and his putting something on it and it sank in. That happened 2 years after pouring. On my layout I had lost my AC for a few months. It was a extremely hot time and my small river became a running river. Thats why I won't ever use it again and out at the museum/club will not use. I wish it hadn't been or there is something to add on top or with to harden it. Good luck with it
You are saying that dust got stuck to it? I can't imagine how hot it would be for this stuff to turn back to a liquid.
Live in Texas and we had temps over 100for a while. Shut up room no air. My ac was broke but the stuff never really gets hard. I have no faith in the stuff. Again this is my experience with it and I won't recommend and its not aloud to be used at my club
Great details and excellent tutorial.
My tracks are mostly flat as a pancake. I moved the level of the scenery up and down relative to the level tracks so I do not have that flat plywood look.
Another option for water is gloss Modpodge medium. Matte Modpodge medium is also great for scenic work as an alternative to PVA. Can be diluted for fixing ground covers and ballast and is very flat. The tints can also be used for colouring rocks, creating tide marks etc around water scenes, can be diluted with water. Great vid and result 👍
Another coat ?ah well........I don't know. When in doubt do without Looks great to me. Nice job .
[looks, great]👍
Thank you for taking the time for posting. I am in the process of researching for my first lay out. Lucky for me your video popped up. I want a canal scene in my layout. I want some wind rippling in the water way. I wonder how that is done. Your attention to deatil, the grass, gravel and junk (not thought of that) is fantastic.
Woodland Scenics does offer a water effect product. I've heard you can use toilet paper too though.
I found this video to be very helpful. That's because after the initial hassles of deciding which underlying products would, and supposedly wouldn't, interact with the resin, the process still wasn't flawless. Instead of resin, I intend to fully examine all the methods of "painting" on color and texture I've seen from other modelers. It seems they've had almost none of the same considerations of product interaction restrictions like shown with this product. Again, thank you for the very informative video.
So, the finished surface (human operations side) is just the paper printout? Any regrets leaving it as such? Any thoughts on covering the paper with another layer - perhaps clear contact paper too?
Correct, just a paper printout. It has worked for me. I'm sure one could put a plastic cover or something on it for a better appearance, but that isn't terribly important to me.
The edge of the water looks great the glue gave it some depth, like shallow banks....
I think you did a heck of a job when I seen I'm making your stream. Just wondering if you ever used Elmer's clear glue just wondering how it would turn out
If it's PVA, it's bad to use with Realistic Water, regardless of color. I would check with Elmers.
That's odd that it never fully hardens, I wonder if instead of having a barrier on the edge for all of eternity you can use some "paint" the edge with resin that does fully harden.
I don't think paint would be a sufficient barrier to keep the resin from oozing out over time. Obviously the deeper the resin, the more issue it presents.
That turned out really nice! I’m modeling a very similar project so definitely will copy it. One question; what is the piece of music around 11 minutes into the video? I Shazam it but didn’t come up and I really liked it. Thanks for the great video. You made it look really easy.
Music gets posted in description. That track is Forever by Nomyn
Thanks!
Cool
That resin culvert most likely warped because it wasn't fully cured. (with UV light) setting it in the sun is one way to do that. Should only take 5-10 mins tops.
The culvert was UV cured weeks in advance, so it had plenty of time to fully cure. Because it was a water washable resin, I think the glue/water mix being saturated on it caused it to soften up.
Thumbs Up..... just a small (not so small) note. Bubbles and Ripples can be fixed and made with air gun and yes a heat gun will get rid of bubbles quickly..... Even in N scale shredded tissue can be manipulated into wave, flow and white water features. Layers are the key to depth indication and manipulation of the colour will highlight both depth and flow direction of the water feature. I had not heard that the scenic water "never dried" most NZ and UK stuff does end up like Jelly with a mat like finish. Leaks are most certainly an issue... In OO scale the water feature costs are extremely high which is why some modellers use different products that do require mixing. Complete drying is a 10-14 day wait in the best of conditions. The important thing to remember is to scale your water. Wait at least a week before thinking about that final layer which should be the lightest.
Absolutely fascinating to watch and learn from! Thank you! I've always enjoyed doing landscaping around my home. Never having gotten to the scenery stage on any of my layouts previously, but being on the verge of starting scenery on my current layout, after watching this video, I think I am really going to enjoy landscaping in 1/87th scale!
I find the landscaping to be the funnest part. It's really when your layout comes to life and you make it your own.
Great job. Did you have to bklock off the culvert?
The culverts only go into the foam base about half an inch. There is not a channel between them.
Fantastic job. I really liked seeing all the little extra pieces you added in. The tires, pallets and cone really add to the scene.
Thanks!
Very realistic! You're inspiring me to give it a go as well 😊
I recommend. A water feature is a very fun project.
