This is why I believe that every state and country should have one more lane STRICTLY for law enforcements, ambulances, etc to avoid such traffic jams for ambulances, etc.

In Sweden you can use the side walk and move into an intersection (even if the light is red) to make space for an ambulance. Just be careful so you or someone else in the area won't need another ambulance! This can be seen in older cities with less space on the roads as the roads are built for a city of for example 100.000 people but now 300.000 live there. At some spots it gets really tight even during regular rush hour, let alone in an emergency during rush hour! They usually try to widen the streets around the hospital, but it is not always possible.

The worst part is that more often than not, people are complaining about roads being blocked because they are now gonna be home 10 minutes later. Wonder if they'd still complain if they knew what was actually going on.

I had one of them once. Obsessed with what they just "HAD TO DO". No one around them are safe, at any time.

The one thing to note here is how most European drivers are trained to recognize, and recognize early, an oncoming emergency vehicle and don't need the blues & twos on their back bumper before they realize "Gee, Mabel, an ambulance; I should do something." In the Netherlands there's usually a set of motorcycle outriders ahead of the escort car to "preset" things if they don't look 100% right. Great job by all concerned.

Two things, firstly, there was no swerving as mentioned,only a controller exit from one road to another. secondly, the Ambulance driver could see the black vehicle was not stopping & adjusted their speed accordingly to slot behind the passing vehicle. Basically this was a non event drive with amazing responses from 99% of the other road users.

They mention it very quickly but forget that youtube is international. For Americans with bad geography knowledge like me, Brussels is in Belgium and they're going to Paris, France which g.maps is telling me is 300-400km (190mi) depending on what route you're taking. So the jump in the video cuts out over 3hrs of travel. I have lanesplit the 10fwy in Los Angeles 110mi a day for the last 5 years and before that used to drive an ambulance as an EMT for a year in LA county. Long distance runs suck. It looks like they're running a transit or sprinter ambulance which is taller and narrower than the boxes we usually run in SoCal which makes the lanesplitting the AMBULANCE is doing more reasonable but that's still crazy! As oblivious as some of those motorists are, it looks like the escort and the motorists are making it a much better run than anything you'd experience here in LA. Still quite the fight and looks like a really stressful run.

EMS here. Please NEVER go through a red light for us. Forget the ticket you could cause a crash that we'll have to stand down from our running call to stop and deal with. I'd much rather you wait until it is safe. Dont feel bad for following the law.

in Germany (beside some idiots) we have to make a lane for police, firefighters and ambulance called "Rettungsgasse" - basically creating an emergancy lane so they can pass when traffic is slow or stopped
