[POV] NO Room for MISTAKES With This Special Escort

  • Welcome back! Today we are back in the Netherlands to join the elite motorcycle escorting officers of Team Traffic. This escort will be different from the regular escorts you've witnessed on our channel. Can you guess what makes this escort so special?
We start our journey in downtown The Hague and we will make our way to Schiphol airport located just south of Amsterdam. This special escort requires a larger team of officers. This time they are not only responsible for getting the escorted vehicles fast and smooth to their destination, but they are also in charge of additional safety and security along the way. The team uses different tactics while navigating through the city. Within city limits the team instructs other drivers on intersections to keep driving in order to get the road ahead free of traffic. They also retain a slower pace then regular traffic and the officer tailing the escort doesn't allow anyone to overtake. This tactic prevents malicious drivers from getting too close to the escorted vehicles. Outside city limits the team can decide to let other traffic overtake them, but this is dependent on traffic density.

I'm a motorcycle driver myself for 38 years, and yes, it's a problem. Alot of people don't go to the right lane. But it's also a point that the cops doesn't do a thing about it. And I don't mean the escorting team, but normale traffic bunnys. Left drivers, mostly playing with their phones, are the most heard complain over here. The shitty lane discipline on the A4 looks so familiar as I drive there often... It seems as if the regular traffic wants to say: we've got 3 or 4 lanes, we're gonna make sure to use them as prominently as possible. Don't tell anyone, but if there's slow moving traffic in lane 1 or 2, and one can pass safely in lane 3 or 4 respectively, it would be relatively harmless to do so.

13:30 on access-controlled highways or dual carriageways with three or more lanes in the same direction, drivers are NOT required to drive in the rightmost lane (that is also in that same law). The motorcycle policeman is clearing out traffic that is hesitant on overtaking or got startled because the motorcycle is going 200km/h where traffic goes 100. People, especially inattentive ones, get startled and scared because they are being pinched from two sides - the vehicle they're overtaking, and the policeman. The solution is to give gas and overtake briskly, if you ever find yourself in that situation.

It's only partially wrong. The correct term he should have used is a priority vehicle (or 'voorrangsvoertuig' in Dutch). When a vehicle only uses blue lights, or no lights at all, it's not considered a priority vehicle and thus you don't have to move out off the way. Only when using blue lights in combination with a siren, it is considered a priority vehicle meaning you have to move out off the way.
On the other hand, when an officer is only using blue lights, this doesn't mean you should just continue driving as normal. When they do this, it is still best to move out of the way. But if you don't do this, you couldn't be fined since you haven't done anything against the law.
Source for the definition of a priority vehicle is Dutch law RVV 1990, article 1 -> 'Voorrangsvoertuig'

Only with both lights and sirens. Though if the police gives you a stop sign or signals you to move aside, you must listen even without lights or sirens

No. You do should pay attention when you only see blue lights. But a 'priority vehichle' only can take priority when using blue lights + sirens.

@@ReneAltena So unless you can hear sirens, then you just carry on as normal pretty much, but if you do hear sirens you move over. Once they passed, move back to your original lane, ez

@@nekotranslates With only blue lights, you should still move over. The only difference compared to sirens is that it isn't illegal to ignore it, but if you do ignore it you're acting like a dickhead.

Could you please learn how to properly pronounce Schipol, it drives me nuts every time you say it wrong.

For many overseas people the correct pronunciation is not easy to say as the combination of characters has a different pronunciation to Dutch or other Germanic languages like Afrikaans. An example of such could be when saying the word “van” in Afrikaans the pronunciation is different with the “v” pronounced more like an “f”. Being able to speak Afrikaans I can understand the frustration at foreigners mispronouncing names. 😂😂😂
