5 minute Cantonese
Hong Kong
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 เม.ย. 2020
Hi, I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I enjoyed language learning. I speak Cantonese, English, mandarin, Italian and German.
I guess whenever you tell the Cantonese speakers that you want to learn Cantonese. They will appreciate a lot, but the next minute they will tell you it's very difficult, almost like a mission impossible. So at the end you try to memorize few expressions by heart or simply give up.
I love to share how I learn language and try to use my own way to teach you. I hope So that you can surprise your cantonese friends.
To deepen your learning experience with me, I invite you to become a member of 5 minute cantonese through Patreon (www.patreon.com/5minutecantonese) and receive worksheets and audio exercise weekly.

I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I make easy and practical cantonese learning videos for complete beginners to intermediate level.
My full time job is a flight attendant. I enjoy studying foreign languages. My job allows me to visit many places and meet many people. So that I have more chances to practice what I have learned.
Due to the covid, I haven't fly regularly for over a year. I find TH-cam is extremely helpful for maintaining my language proficiency. One day, out of curiosity, I looked for cantonese learning channels. I was so surprised that there are so little and most of the good one are even from overseas. That's why I started "5 minute cantonese" on 2020.
Remember, practice makes perfect.

Hi Amanda! I was wondering: why is it unnecessary to use a measure word in the sentence “ngo5 soeng2 maai5 syut3 go1”? Thank you!
Yes, we don’t necessary use quantifier in this case. But you can also use it if you want to. Same as I want to eat ice cream. You can say, ngo5 soeng2 sik6 syut3 gou1. Or you can use "go3" or "bui1" as quantifier.

Yes! Thank you very much! This is the best translation.👍🏻 Just in the Cantonese version, it doesn't mean stingy or less important.

I used to have an old lady as my neighbour in my previous Hong Kong apartment, she was super sweet and could only speak Cantonese. Everytime I had a chat with her using the little Cantonese i know, she would always say “你好叻呀!" in a super enthusiastic way 😆 Thanks for your lessons Amanda !
She is so cute! You are most welcome 😀
Thank you for the nice lesson as always Amanda. Who knows, i might end up using this one day 😆
Definitely 😉
Your lessons are very good. Just out of curiosity : do you speak Mandarin? If I were you , I would have two channels one English Cantonese the othet English Mandarin. Instead of Italian Cantonese and English Cantonese. Trust me , you will become so big in a year or two , because you explain very well . You are one of the best. This comes from a polyglot teacher who has watched hundreds of teaching materials.
Thank you very much! You are very kind! Yes, I can speak Mandarin. 😅 It's hard to maintain one channel with my job. But it's really a good idea. I'll think 🤔 about it.
❤Thank you somuch❤

ooh so interesting. Yeah does seem hard to translate. Seems like it means "to hold a grudge" or be "petty".
This is not easy to translate. We use it very often.
The word “petty” is an excellent translation of the Cantonese expression “siu2 hei3.” I’m an ABC (American-born Chinese) with parents from Hong Kong.
Loved this. Learned two new verbs with the “I miss you” expression: to hang and to focus on. do1 ze6 saai3 🙏🏻
