How 3 words completely changed a character
#princessbride #miraclemax #billycrystal
"Have fun storming the castle!"
When Billy Crystal was about to begin filming his scenes for The Princess Bride, director Rob Reiner decided to completely change the scene by telling him three simple words, "forget the lines." This not only completely changed the character, but nearly upended the production entirely.
Join me in celebrating the genius of The Princess Bride, and the incredible comedic talent of Billy Crystal.

How to tell a story through conflict

#starwars #lightsaber #videoessay When George Lucas wrote the scripts for the prequels, he wrote in a number of lightsaber fights for exciting action scenes, but it's like he forgot there original point. When he did the original trilogy, he made them emotional climaxes that dramatically moved the story forward. This is one of the reasons why for me, the original trilogy remains unmatched. Also,...

#thething #johncarpenter #videoessay John Carpenter's The Thing is one of my all time favorite horror movies, up there with Alien and Jaws. While it might be labeled a "creature feature" it's so much more than that. It's a perfectly crafted film full of tension and paranoia, filled with intelligent characters who act rationally to the situation. Written and Edited by Luke Custer
When the shot is impossible to film

#Theshining #stanleykubrick #steadicam #videoessay Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is full of iconic shots, but one of the most iconic was impossible to film. At least until Garrett Brown invented the Steadicam in 1976. With the help of this new technology, Stanley Kubrick could finally film the hotel's point-of-view, creating some of the most haunting scenes in film. Written and edited by Luke C...

#dannyboyle #28dayslater #videoessay With 28 Years Later making news for using an iPhone as it's principal camera, I wanted to go back to the original, which was also filmed on something unique for the time...digital cameras. While commonplace on film sets now, bac k in 2001 it was extremely rare to shoot your entire film on digital, especially with smaller, cheap cameras. Written and Edited by me
The camera won't stop moving

#climax #gasparnoe #filmanalysis Climax might be Gaspar Noé's most mainstream film, but that doesn't make it an easy watch. The near constant camera movements and dizzying angles cause you to go beyond being a passive observer, and instead experience it for yourself. Halloween season is officially underway!

#harrisonford #empirestrikesback #fingerofdoom Harrison Ford's iconic finger point is absolutely perfect. A lot of actors have signature moves, but perhaps none are as understated as Harrison Ford's finger of doom. From space bounty hunter to CIA agent, Harrison Ford has played them all, and you can bet he was pointing while doing it. And on occasion, was worried about his family too... If you ...

#edgarwright #babydriver #filmanalysis A quick note: When making a video, you are thinking about a ton of things, and sometimes you forget to fix a mistake. In this case, that was my mispronunciation of "Noel Fielding." That's my bad. But I promise you, this same thing will definitely happen again. Edgar Wright is known for his choice of music, and has used it to drive scenes before. But with B...

#themask #camerondiaz #videoessay You know that small detail you always notice but have trouble describing to others? Well this is mine! The over-the-shoulder shot is one of the most common ways to shoot dialogue, but what happens when your eyes wonder around the frame? You might notice that something doesn't quite feel right... And if you're me as a kid, then this little detail will be the thi...

no wonder this film is a masterpiece. #pixar #ratatouille #bradbird #disney Breaking ground isn't something new for Pixar. With Ratatouille, they not only had to make the humans and rats look better, they also had to animate food. And while that might sound easy at first, keep in mind that if they got the food wrong, the entire film would have to be scrapped. Little known fact about me, I reall...

Release the crystal cut!
my favourite film but strangely i didn't like this character nor his wife - i thought it was too long for one time - maybe it's US humour?
Yes an iconic movie. The Goldberg's show centered around the movie made for a touching moment between the kid and his grumpy father who finally watched and enjoyed the movie. Then as a big guy he dressed as Fezzik.
too bad that director has gone off the deep end
God I loved this movie! Best performance from all those brilliant actors. Rob Reiner, well he’s the best!
I still say that lemon juice line.
I was a teenage boy when my mom suggested renting this movie. It sounded like a stupid movie, but I watched it anyway. So, so, so glad I did. LOVE this movie. And the scene with Miracle Max is my fav.
I mean it’s funny but it’s not that funny. Great movie but that scene isn’t super funny or anything. It’s fine but I don’t see the crazy funny
I must see this footage. That and Robin William's many takes as Genie in Aladdin. I MUST SEE THEM!
Too bad Rob turned into such a whack job.
It’d be nice if they could turn those 30 hours into a movie special
God I want to see the ruined/ unused Miracle Max footage XD 3 hrs of medieval yiddish stand up interspersed with the guy whose supposed to be dead on the table bursting out laughing would be so g-d funny
I truly envy everyone who worked in and on that movie.
Is this the music from beltmatic lol
Nothing compares to The Princess Bride among all the movies that parody their genre while yet evoking strong emotions. A lovely film. I was happy to see a tiny bit of it up close.
They don't make em like they used to

Make the tapes available, unedited and raw. People want it.
Of all the films that poke fun at their genre and still bring the pathos, nothing is a good as The Princess Bride. A beautiful movie. Delighted to get an inside view of a little of it.
With Billy Crystal and Carol Kane, the scene had no chance to be anything but good.
I pray that I live long enough to watch this with my grandkids one day.
I honestly thought it was Brent Spiner. 😅😅
This may be history’s first blooper real to take two releases due to length.
Too bad Reiner is such a douchebag in real life. He’ll never shake the “Meathead” stigma because of his insane politics.
Can...can we just get all the takes from that in an anniversary edition or something?
Probably THE FUNNIEST scene in the whole movie. So glad they cast Crystal for that role. Of course, everyone gave a stellar performance.
It really wasn't that funny, but if you tell people it was funny, they will laugh. Baaaaa.....
Love this movie ❤❤❤❤
Growing up watching Rob and Ron Howard turning into great directors is so cool
Meh, the character, spouse, and the jewish schtick was probably the only part I thought was phoned in. Too easy and done to death by Mel Brooks.
Mutton, lettuce, tomato?
Not one mention of the brilliant Carol Kane.
Release those 30 hours of film, or not. As you wish...
_The Thing_ took place in the ANTarctic, but yeah. Great analysis and video.
Is it actually possible to bruise a rib from holding in laughter?
Never tell a comedian to adlib lines
This is my all time favorite move. Too Blave!
One of the Greatest Movies EVER! Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein...Classics.
The best movie ever.
Give us the full reel! I want all the blown takes!
The duels in the OT are superior without a doubt, but saying the duels in the prequels are vapid and lack all substance is simply incorrect. Style over substance is a valid criticism for the prequel duels but it doesn’t mean the subtext isn’t there.
can we just get the improvised film cuts please!
The magic of this movie is truly special and I don't know if it could ever happen again.
💯🤍 SLEEPING HANDSOME 👱🏻💪🏻✨🔥❤️
Best Movie Ever
Alan Rickman was a legend.
The film The Princess Bride is flawless! The best, perhaps! "Anybody want a peanut?!?"
Such a good movie but its over to quick. So watch it again 😄
they need to release all this footage
I thought Billy Crystal's character completely ruined the movie. And you keep was terrible over the top.Not funny, you, the only thing that saved that entire scenes was his wife, screaming liar at him.He is not funny. He was not any good in this movie.Practically ruined it for everybody , terrible , terrible , terrible actor we all know why he gets the jobs he got
Only wrestling fans could understand what Andre the Giant was saying. One of the few movies I can watch over and over again.
