    Wall-E is the first movie that fully enraptured me, maybe because it was the first one I fully understood. Being so simple in its presentation and having no dialogue made it so easily relatable. While not the best movie ever made it is my personal favorite and the only one I will never tire of watching

      I love that description! When they took out the dialogue it really forced you to immerse yourself in the film.

    Great essay ! Wall-E is definitely one of my top 3 pixar movies, and top 15 favorite movies of all time. Incredibly well written and directed film about love, capitalism, ecology, and how to rediscover the lost and long forgotten humanism we all need to live, not to survive.

    title is kinda confusing. dialouge-less animation has been around since the beginning of the artform. referring to a "rule of animation" when it really means "trend in modern children's movies" is misinformed, because there are very well defined set of rules for animation. they are usually referred to as the 12 Principles of Animation, but also informally as rules or guidelines. i was like, which rule does it break? when i was in school for animation, wall-e was held up as an great example of animation principles in action because of its lack of dialogue, not in spite of it.
    the sound design stuff and camera stuff is interesting, but there is no rule of animation against having no dialogue to tell a story and many of the rules of animation reinforce the opposite, to use animation to convey a story purely visually and through character body language. it is an interesting thing bc i get it's a title to grab attention, and that many ppl not into animation don't realize talking about animation rules or principles actually refers to a specific thing animators follow, not just a popular trend or to as a figure of speech. but i feel like a title can be eye catching without being confusing/misleading.

    The title is misleading because it talks more about sound design than animation itself. I thought you were going to talk about animation principles, but I got a topic on how sound design is more elaborate in animated films. I don’t see how this has to do with breaking any animation rules. The title is clickbait and that’s not necessarily bad, but it’s pretty annoying.

    • @wydx120
      @wydx120 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah; I find the bombastic tone of clickbait titles annoying by itself, but at least I expect to have the answer to the title by the end of the video, even if it was blown out of proportion or if it was just an excuse to introduce the real subject of the video just afterwards. I have watched this video in its entirety and I still don't know what's animation's biggest rule, let alone how Pixar apparently broke it

    • @InCinematic
      @InCinematic  ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Since the Disney Renaissance, animated films were heavily reliant on sound, and probably singing, but in particular, by dialogue. It helps keep children, the primary audience, engaged. By removing that for the majority of the film, WALL-E breaks that "rule." It does successfully it through it's intensive sound design and the way it's shot. Like Andrew Stanton states "When you remove something as crucial as dialogue, the other elements have to fill in that hole."

    amazing video but the title doesn’t quite describe the main topic of the video but it is a really good title algorithmically. Really good work tho made me remember how amazing Wall-E is

    • @InCinematic
      @InCinematic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! and yeah, It's a tough balance. I don't want the video to be a "claim" as much as a celebration of what made it so unique. So what made the film great is that it went against convention "the rules" and had little dialogue, then the celebration is all the other elements that had to step up to make it work.

    I've always loved all the real world object and devices in sound design - probably because it's so disjointed from the images on screen.

    • @PantsLizardz
      @PantsLizardz ปีที่แล้ว

      When I was a kid, I was always obsessed with figuring out how cel animation achieved those smooth textures. All I knew to exist at the time were crayons. That obsession got me chasing the medium of animation before I knew what it was called.
      I think lately, so many films of the genre have been so good and experimental that I can’t help but feel reinvigorated every time I go to the movies. Spiderverse has done a lot to influence the genre for the better.
      Your video has absolutely reminded me how beautiful Wall•E was.

    • @InCinematic

      They used calculations and software to create those lenses in the computer. They had to use the real lenses to get calculations and references!
