Idk how you can be high functioning underperforming. Maybe at adhd parts, but I exce and my body of work is great. Just adhd kills my time and I jump from one thing to another. But I think because I can hyperfocus, it makes me great at things. So can’t knock it, I guess

Yes, some symptoms improve or remit, but all neurodevelopmental disorders affect a person from birth until death. Success lies with your ability to manage symptoms so that you still have control over your life.

I'm not sure ADHD was a thing when I was a kid in 80s and 90s. I don't remember hearing anyone being diagnosed with it. I struggled alot in school though, I'd hope if it was a thing teachers would've noticed and helped me along.

I would never recommend using alcohol to treat social anxiety. Would highly recommend SSRI's and psychotherapy over benzodiazepines for social anxiety and generalized anxiety. Propranolol is also a useful option in some cases.

I’m in my 40s. I cannot keep a job because of that, but a disability insurance company don’t want to hear it. I have so many other problems too… Chronic pain that flares up constantly, cardiomyopathy, copd, nash, Anxiety, depression with paranoid personality traits (probably RSD)… How can I get the disability insurance company to leave me alone!? 😡. It’s evil! I’m no longer willing to continue trying after 7 attempts, career changes, major investments. I just want a doctor that supports my disability. I reached a very high paying career (200k+/year), and now the disability insurance company say I can’t be disabled at 40 because I’m too young. But the truth is they’re trying everything not to pay me!!!!

I was diagnosed and treated for anxiety for years before getting the proper adhd diagnosis. My anxiety never got better with treatment because it was a symptom of untreated adhd. I didn't know my constant overlapping thoughts that I couldn't catch hold of were adhd and not the racing thoughts of anxiety. And medical professionals aren't trained any better to notice the things I was describing to psychiatrists and therapists for years were textbook symptoms of inattentive adhd. It's so frustrating.

@MikeFeldmeierMD - These medical practicioner definitions of RSD don't quite hit the nail on the head on this topic. They are outside-in observer descriptions, as opposed to inside-out 1st-person navigation tools for the user (the person with ADHD). RSD is less about "fear of rejection" and more about "fear of not being suffiently heard and thereby, misunderstood (again)". These papercut-like experiences compound into Adult ADHD & cPTSD, kinda-like interest on a principal does over time. Death (/depression) by a thousand cuts. An outside-in only, behavioral psyche approach is... not so much 'wrong' as just grossly insufficient at least as far as helpful, tangible, developmental scaffolding goes. For someone with RSD, we need scaffolding and literacies that help us 'construct and navigate' an ADHD umwelt (/subjective world). An ADHD person perceives a different world, often richer in interrelational nuance. It's like we can see things in HD that others can't see in 480p. Things which are tangible for us are intagibles for others (and vice-versa). We struggle to find 'common' words which both accurately describe our conceptions, and yet are succinct and tangible enough for those without ADHD to understand (with their limited 'empathic attention'). So over time, we tend to withdraw from our ADHD-unfriendly relationships. Increasingly, into a tradjectory whose end is some form of withdrawal/catatonia from norm-y world "executive functions'.

It is virtually impossible to get an adhd diagnosis in France if you can't afford to go to the private sector. This is partially due to the overall state of french psychiatry and scepticism or lack of awareness of adhd in France but also due to the insanely heavy bureaucracy of the public sector.

Hello. I want to know if I had ADHD when I was young. I suffer from difficulty in focusing, paying attention, and checking details, in addition to my wide endless imagination that prevents me from focusing, my activity, my constant movement, my love of running, sports, movement, and my poor academic achievement. When I was young I was a girl. I talk a lot, either because I speak less, I'm slow in completing tasks, and I forget a lot, but I didn't riot when we were going to a relative's house, and I didn't riot either in class, but I didn't focus

When I was in school, a common belief what ADHD is, was "you didn't get enough attention from your parents, so you are hyperactive in school, to get the teachers attention". So it was not seen as a disorder that causes your behavior but more like such an extreme form of misbehavior, that you get a diagnose and meds for it to so you're easier to handle.

mine isnt TOO bad. im actually rather frugal as a trauma response from losing so many storage units or stuff from moving over the years, i actually have downsized a lot of what i own despite how much i spend. i always put 3/4ths of my check in savings so that i can pay my rent at the end of the month, and my meals are prepped a week ahead, leaving the rest for saving or spending, problem is that if i see a game on sale that ive wanted, why wait for it to be full price? or if i know i can get somethign cheaper on amazon, i will buy more than just one thing so i can get free shipping and cross a few things off my built up list. funny enough though, a lot of the list items actually do help me downsize my stuff, like more compact storage stuff or replacements for my more used items. im actually really stable financially, i just cant seem to save because.. well what am i saving for? capitalism wont let me save for a house unless im a capitalist. i dont regret any of my purchases, and my quality of life normally goes up for them, but at the cost of savings.

I live in Texas, stimulants and opiods down here carry SUCH a stigma. It's woven into the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality. My pcp referred me to a psychiatrist. She is the only one within a 100 mile radius that accepts my insurance, so there is no option of a 2nd opinion. But, she keeps insisting that my symptoms are all just from depression and will not entertain the thought of stimulants. I DO have anxiety and depression. But I feel a huge factor in that, is from untreated ADHD. But if I push at ALL to fight for myself, I'll be red listed as pill seeking. And I currently 100% HAVE to have my anxiety meds. So I can't just quit this doctor. I feel like a failure as an adult and moreso as a mother. The hard part is knowing exactly what I need; but said doctor will not hear of it. And all those online psych places are crazyyyyyy expensive. It's no one's fault other than my own that my life's circumstances have prevented me from affording better treatment. But it doesn't mean I don't deserve just basic human compassion and ALL I want to do is better myself. The tool to do that is medication, as I've tried alllllllllll the alternative medicines and natural "hacks". It's frustrating when life is just passing me by while I'm trying so desperately to crawl out of this hole so I can have a more productive and happy life, and I 100% deserve that. But sadly it's not going to happen anytime soon until I'm in a better position. There's no answer for this aside from better mecical training and understanding, I just want other mothers who are going through this to know you're not alone ❤
