Yep parents should pay attention to the age rating on the box of the games. I never played Fortnite but for me it seems harmless and perfect for children. GTAV what you mentioned on the other hand is 17+ in the states (correct me if i'm wrong) and i think it's 18+ right here in most European countries.
But this subject doesn't only count for games but also movies. I think many kids these days are into stuff like the Avengers where of course all that happens is fighting and shooting😆(I've never seen those films but I get the idea from the trailers). Kids from the age of 5 to 12 are wearing backpacks or lunchboxes with superhero's on them. Or when in my childhood DragonballZ was quite big, kind of the same thing. I remember in 1993, I was 6 and watched Jurassic Park, which has a rating of 12+. And I remember especially the beginning of the movie was PRETTY scary at the time! (the scene with the T-Rex grabbing someone in the dark while they're trying to shoot it, and then he gets dragged in the cart while they're repeatedly screaming 'shoot her, shooot herrrr'). Thats my experience with this subject.
But i turned out fine! Fortunately!

Yes, there's a lot of context involved beyond looking at the ESRB, in one of my future videos I'll be talking about social interaction between players for better and for worse. It's definitely normal for children to be interested in some degree of violence or "action" would be a better word, but there isn't a huge benefit of them playing ultra-violent games... there's just plenty of games that don't take it that far that are still great. But a note on Jurassic Park, which I saw at the same age, parental guidance is the important part when letting kids play outside of the suggested ratings. The ratings are a law but a fast rule to help parents make a decision. Thanks for the comment.
