Knysna - Ep4 - Gericke's Point | Wild Oats Market | The Heads | Knysna Waterfront
EPISODE 4
We spent a glorious three days in the beautiful Knysna area. Please come and explore with us from forest to sea and exhilarating activities to simple peaceful relaxation... We did it all! 😀
We show you all in four videos:
Episode 1: The trip from Cape Town to the Diepwalle Forest Station where we claim our camping deck spot emerged in the forest. We also visit and admire the spectacular King Edward VII Big Tree.
Episode 2: Camping at the camping decks at Diepwalle Forest Station and visiting the extraordinary Forest Legends Museum - there is an exhibit there that you would not want to miss!
Episode 3: This may be the most adrenalin rushing video we've ever made for BRC! We take on the Knysna Ziplines over a 200m deep gorge in Harkerville (not once, but four times!) and also visit The Garden of Eden and Noetzie before arriving at our Knysna tiny house for the first of two nights... Lovely!
Episode 4: We visit the Wild Oats Community Farmer's Market and beautiful Gericke's Point in Sedgefield before exploring the Old Main Library in Knysna, the Knysna Waterfront and lastly the iconic Knysna Heads. It was indeed sad for this lovely trip to come to an end...
Thanks for watching! :-D

What stunning scenery and such a fun adventure walking to the island at low tide. I can relate to you Annelie about being in nature with sound and smells. The market was awesome indeed l would have paid plenty for a bucket of those magnificent proteas. Loved the sand stone buildings in Knysna all those libraries. The water front delightful to stroll along. The heads with the amazing cliffs and raged rocks too beautiful as was the sights from the view points and finally the drone footage fabulous indeed. Another WOW weekend guys thanks for sharing Jane

Thank you for the lovely videos of the Knysna area. It is just the tip of the iceberg in the Garden Route. There is so much to see and information to share about the area. It was nice that you touched on the history of the area. Next time, Tsitsikamma - Natures Valley and Plettenberg Bay? It would be great to see drone footage as you hike the Robberg Reserve.

Good evening Annelie and Werner, Knysna is a wonderful place, very special for us during our trip to South Africa in September 2006. One of our favorite places (along with Prince Albert). Cape Town is a beautiful city but we have (had) a particular attraction to smaller cities. I was particularly moved to watch these four episodes, especially the fourth. THANKS a lot. Marc

Hi Marc, your comments are very special! So glad that you loved the 4th episode 🙂 This Knysna trip had many highlights, but we also realise that there are still so much to see in the area... We'll have to go back for more... 😀 Fully agreed, Prince Albert is a beautiful little town next to the Swartberge, BRC is planning a trip to that area for late Dec this year... 😉 All the best!

This was an incredibly wonderful - and quite an ‘emotionally engaging’ experience (it drew tears to my eyes). It was all so beautifully choreographed and edited Werner (excellent piloting of Gogga) and your music choices were spot-on, Annelie! I do not think any words I can string together could even get close to doing justice to your amazing “production”. I cannot begin to express all the feelings I had whilst being fully immersed in each of the moments you captured and shared so graciously with us. Suffice to say, I loved every minute of this episode and the whole series! Thank you 🙏🏻 PS I’m so happy to see your numbers steadily growing 🙌🏻 My wish is that your channel is soon going to 💥 and get the recognition it deserves! I check regularly and take my self appointed record keeping very seriously 😁 See how successfully you have wormed yourselves into my heart 🫶🏻

Hi Des, hope you are still doing well 🙂 Thanks for the compliments, but I think when it is so naturally beautiful, it becomes much simpler to make a good video 😀 I agree though, it was beautiful, and loved that you felt emotionally engaged (wow, what a compliment!), not that we like to be the cause of you crying of course! This was indeed a special series for us, and it is somewhat sad for it to come to an end... We have big plans though on our next few trips, so rest assured that more will be coming 🙂 Thanks for checking the numbers 😀 Indeed, we are pinching ourselves, did you see we are almost at 600 subscribers? Who would have thought that 10 months into the channel... 🫨 You will be happy to know that in the trip we've just returned from that both Mia and Frikkie joined us - that is a first for a BRC series... I again have about 7 hours of footage, but this time it will really just be two videos. We will have to skip the coming Sunday though as I need some time to prep the first cuts of the two videos, but you can be sure that the 1st episode will be posted the following Sunday... 😀 Thanks for being such a super fan, you will have no idea how much this is encouraging us. Kindest regards, Werner

I'm sure Ruben and Mia are very glad to have you as their dad- I hope you've been spoilt 🤗 This has to be one of my favourite videos you've ever done! I can't explain why, but all the spectacular footage and accompanying music made me quite teary eyed. It's like it took me back to my little trip and I got to see everything I loved all over again! Also, thank you so much for the little shout out to my mom and I- you have no idea how much that made us both smile this afternoon 😊❤ I was so so lucky to go on the Featherbed Nature Reserve experience which included the most exquisite hike all the way down to those caves Annelie pointed out! It remains a highlight of my life, and I highly recommend it to anyone 😊 If you ever go out that way again, be sure to visit Thesen Island. It's a stone's throw away from the Knysna waterfront, and is charming. I did kayaking around the island, and a visit to the Seahorse Reserve is well worth it! I'm also so glad you got to experience the Wild Oats Market in Sedgefield! I also absolutely loved it there, and I wish I had sampled more of the food there 😅 There's so much to choose from! This Knysna Series will always hold a special place in my heart, and I want to thank you both so much for these wonderful videos ❤ Warmest regards to you both from mom and I ❤️

Wow, your comments are blowing us away, we had no idea that this episode will bring such emotions, but we are sure it is all very positive! 😀 We knew you and mom would love this particular episode, as we'ved left most of the sea footage for the last episode, we could not help thinking of you while strolling on the wonderful beach towards Gericke's Point 😀 It sounds like your trip to Knysna was fantastic, even with some Kayaking and visiting the wonderful Featherbed Nature Reserve! Annelie and myself have been to Featherbed (on our honeymoon, mind you) 27 years ago (when I was not nearly as grey 🤣) and we visited those caves as well 🙂 We were contemplating to go back there for this BRC trip, but in the end we ran out of time... Hey guys! I'm so loving your Knysna series 😊 Every time you drive near something familiar I get so excited to see it again 😃 I'm so glad you had the opportunity to go ziplining! I was very fortunate to also go ziplining over the Magaliesburg mountains! There was also such a sheer drop into a gorge below, and I am terribly scared of heights! Like you Annelie, I was shaking 😅 But once you step off that little platform and realise you're safe, it feels like you're flying! And I took in the incredible view of the stream below and the beautiful cliff faces. It's a recommended experience indeed 😊 I had seen Noetzie on the map that the Knysna tourism office gave me, and I was curious about it, but never got that far 😊 So nice to get a glimpse of that stunning beach and castles courtesy of "gogga" 😊 Loved the piano instrumental during the drone footage over the tiny house! So high 5 Annelie for that musical selection- we love anything with a piano in it 😁 What a cute place! I'm somewhat obsessed with the tiny house concept 😅 I love how cosy they look! I can't wait to see your next episode- from the preview it looks as though you may have gone to the Sedgefield Market, and if you did I'll jump for joy 😁 It was a highlight on my little Knysna trip 😊 Thank you both ❤

Hi Kate! Great to hear from you, it is really great that you are 'experiencing' our Knysna trip so well with us, especially this episode seeing that you've also done ziplining before 😀, and of course seeing that you were there recently yourself... BRC will need to plan a trip to Magaliesburg, I think 🤔 Yes, Noetzie was only 'seen' by Gogga 🤣, so we've only seen the same as you are seeing in video... But, yes, in many ways Noetzie is like a mystical place and I'm glad we've made the detour. That tiny house was fantastic! You really do not need anything more, it was perfect to us in every way. Nightjar Cabin also has the most wonderful host, called Leo. I also sent him a link to the video and he loves it... 😀 You are right, the Wild Oats Market is coming up in Ep4, together with a number of additional things that you and your mom will love 😉 Ep4 will be the last video to go live on Sunday morning... “Walking up the gallows” is NOT the reassuring comment Annelie wanted to hear, Werner 😂 I am so impressed with (and in awe of) you, Annelie - you have successfully confronted and overcome your fears - twice in succession - first, horse riding and now, ziplining! 👏🏻 I know I would have “wimped out” had I even got as far as considering the possibility 😉 I’d be so afraid I’d lose my grip 😳 You looked “very cool” in your gear, Werner 😁and you clearly felt undaunted - despite your admission to feeling a little apprehensive beforehand - not helped by your earlier joking question to the lady checking you in - “How many people come back from zip lining?” You are very naughty! Well done, both of you! This was clearly a thrilling experience - you both rose so well to the occasion! And there you are, already planning your next zip lining adventures at Mossel Bay and over the Tree Tops 😄 Your coffee and red latte must have tasted absolutely delicious after that TAKE #3 adrenaline rush 😁 Barista Walter is delightful (and I admire his perspective!). All the other lovely folk you encountered/dealt with left an impression as well. We truly do live in a country of wonderful people. Annelie just shakes her head at you and your cap 🧢 As cheesy as it may sound, you really are so cute together 🫶🏻 As far back as I can remember, I have always felt immense peace and connection in forested places. My soul requires brooks, streams, ferns, mosses, lichens, mushrooms, trees, composting vegetation and birdsong for deep nourishment. I loved this unhurried, gentle amble through The Garden of Eden! I’m so glad Ms Gogga was willing to soar off into the distance whilst you rested your legs - she always adds another dimension and perspective to your Vlogs! This was wonderful! And what a treat to arrive “home” to your “oulike” cabin after such a thrilling day! This has been an unforgettable trip so far! I am going to be so sad when it’s all over. Oh, wait! I can come back and enjoy it again and again 🙌🏻🫶🏻

Hi Des, so good to read your comments! Well, just between you and me, I was actually a bit more afraid about the ziplining than I made it look in the video, but it only took the first one to realise one does not need to fear it so much 🤣 But as you noted, I took care to make Annelie as comfortable as possible 😁 Didn't she just do great, and being the first to go even... 👏 Yes, Walter was amazing. Sometimes you just meet people that are naturally friendly and him speaking with so much passion about what he does, we really see this as one of the big highlights of the whole video 🙂 I really can not see us ever driving past Garden of Eden again without getting a coffee and a good chat with Walter... I really thought that you will like this video, and your comments exceeds my expectation! I'm busy working on Knysna Ep 4 now when I realised I've not yet responded to you 😀 You probably noted that Ep3 was the longest video we've ever posted, but we simply could not leave anything out - you should tell me if a particular video is too long... It seems that Ep4 will also be around the 40 min mark, we did a lot of things on that last day as well 😀 But, then again, I had to bring everything down from 7.5 hours total footage 🤣 We have booked our trip for the coming weekend, so Ep 4 needs to be finished and loaded at the latest by Friday evening... This weekend we are a full house, as Mia and Frikkie are coming along as well... 🙂 Lekker! All the best, Des, from Werner

I absolutely love hearing the birds calling. It's so peaceful! My mom adores elephants, as do I, so she will enjoy this too 😊 That was a marvellous little museum. Many moons ago, one of my uncles worked in forestry in the George / Wilderness area and often visited Knysna too. Hi Kate! So good to hear that you've enjoyed this one as well 😀 We could not help ourselves but to get immersed in the forest and to try and capture it all in this video... We can fully understand that this brings back fond memories to you from your own trip to Knysna 🙂 Hopefully you can return again soon... That elephant skeleton was a special experience. The footage did not quite do justice to how big it is, and it made the whole Knysna elephant link to the forest so very real... Very interesting to hear about your family connection to the forestry activities in the area, the one thing I took from the museum was how tough a life that must have been... We know you (and mom) are waiting for the sea footage, it will start a bit in the video next Sunday, but most of this is reserved for the last Knysna video the following Sunday 😉 Greetings to your mom as well on this Sunday evening, Werner

Hello again, you two lovely souls 😁 I waited (impatiently) all week for Episode 2 of this wonderful forest adventure. It was perfection and I feel so much gratitude to have been able to join you both, even if ‘only virtually’ (it has been the next best thing to being there in person, though). Your ‘carefully chosen’ camping spot proved to be ideal and I love that you had the ablutions all to yourselves and absolute silence from any other humans! That is my ideal! I so enjoyed observing the daylight fade and night-time progressively closing in, followed by that incredibly calm, beautiful dawning of a new day. Gazing into your impressive fire (who needs Bricketts 😉) and simply being in your presence, surrounded by those stately trees, truly touched my soul - it was a ‘heavenly’ experience and I thank you so much for allowing the surroundings to speak for themselves - the healing silences, various bird calls, baboon barks and your footfalls on the wooden walkways. You hit the bull’s eye in every way for me 🫶🏻🙏🏻 The Museum was lovely and certainly an educational peek behind the curtain of times past, prodding one to recall a gentler, more authentic way of being - despite what must have been some obvious hardships for those times. I cannot wait to join you next week - even though I’m feeling sad this week’s episode ended sooner than I’d hoped. I’ll just have to rewatch it a few more times ☺️🫶🏻 PS Have you ever watched the “Herd Elephant Orphanage South Africa” TH-cam channel? If not, I feel sure you will love it 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘 PPS 😉 With regards to Mia having had to miss out on this trip - I’ll let you into a little 🤫 We kept our daughter out of school for a day or two even, when doing an extra special trip (far more educational). Provided they are academically sound, the extra curricular experience can only be of benefit ☺️🫶🏻

Hi, Des! Apologies for only responding now, we have been camping last night at Piket-bo-Berg, not for BRC footage, just for fun. And yes it was quite cold, but we were ready for this and managed quite well with 5 degrees outside in our rooftop tent, Mia in the car and all three dachshunds with us 🤣 It was a bit of an experiment to camp with all three the dogs, but it worked out just fine. But, for BRC trips we still think it will only be Frikkie, he is just such an easy dog... The other two keep us a bit too busy 🙂 Thanks, as always, for your wonderful comments. I love how you summarise the various parts of our video in the eloquent way only you can do 😀 We thought that you would like this video in particular, it was such a peaceful soul boosting experience, and capturing the atmosphere was the goal. Your confirmation that we have managed this is of course very pleasing. That museum was just the cherry on the cake, it is brilliant exhibition! I mentioned to Annelie that this video, although relatively lengthy at 28 min, is probably the least time we'ved covered in real time compared to any other video before, but it just felt right to only focus the attention on the heart of the forest for this video... 🙂 The next video will have a few more different activities, including some screaming (by both Annelie and myself!) 🤣 Wishing you a lovely Sunday evening, Werner PS I will definitely go and have a look at “Herd Elephant Orphanage South Africa”. Thanks for recommending! 😀 PPS Fully agree! We will definitely slip Mia out for some alternative educational experiences 🙂 At the moment prep for and actual exams make it a bit more difficult... BUT, both Mia and Frikkie are scheduled to join us on our next planned BRC trip on 15-17 Jun - everything is already booked. I think it will be the first time that both Mia and Frikkie together will go with on a trip... 🤔

What is your new camera's battery life like? Werner and Annelie, your videos are a real treat to watch here in Virginia, USA. Thank you! I left Cape Town for the US 30 years ago, and the only regret is, (besides family back there and a good braai), I really miss the beauty and splendor of the Cape and how much it is in my DNA. However hearing Annelie’s love for trees, the Shenandoah Valley area here in Virginia is a must on your bucket list! Google Shenandoah fall foliage to take a look. Trees and forests abound for thousands of acres. We camp there frequently in our vintage VW Westfalia (kombi 😊). Perhaps I will video our next trip next weekend, to reciprocate! Ahhh guys! I'm so happy right now! Having had my first ever flight with a trip to Knysna earlier this year, this video was very special to me, and brought back wonderful memories ❤ I love that road that winds round the beloved lagoon! I hope you got to see the Heads as well! I too was so privileged to go into the Knysna Forest on a guided scooter tour. I remember how absolutely quiet it was, and how everything was dwarfed by the magnificent trees. The tour guide told us an amazing point of interest about the trees- they instinctively "break off their limbs", dropping "dead weight" branches to the forest floor, so that they can rather channel water/nutrients etc to other parts instead. I found that fascinating, and really loved the Forest experience! Your new camera is awesome! The footage is looking even better now 😊 Also loved your little stop at Peregrine! Such a charming little place! Oh and must also mention that sometimes your videos give an ASMR experience 😂 When it's so quiet, with maybe just a rustle, faint bird chirping and Annelie speaking so softly, it's a bit like ASMR and is a soothing bonus to your videos 😄 This has made me fall in love with Knysna all over again, and yearn to see it again 😊 Thank you ❤

Hi Kate (and mom)! What a coincidence that you also were in Knysna very recently! I can just imagine how well you can then relate with our amazing experiences with this trip... 😀 Not to worry, there are still many places to be shown in and around Knysna in the next three videos of this series, we have not missed The Heads 😉. There will be footage focused in the beaches coming up..., we know you will love it 😀 These three extra videos will be published over the next three Sundays... The info shared of the forest and how shed off its branches is very interesting, we did not know that. Another fact that we find very interesting as well is that despite the trees growing so tightly together, its branches do not touch each other... We loved the forest experience, one can simply not help but to relax and be comforted by the majestic presence of the trees and forest sounds... 🙂 Thanks for the confirmation about the new camera! We were very pleased with how the footage turned out and we will definitely make this a regular feature of upcoming BRC trips...😁 We had to google ASMR 🤣, but what a huge compliment that our videos can have this effect! But the forest makes this inevitable, we would say... Kate, not sure if you know about this, but I've started a new channel about 2 months ago where I post shorter videos sometimes containing BRC trip footage that was not used before. If you want to look at this, please search for @wernersview on TH-cam. Would love to have your thoughts on this, although it is still very much a work in progress...
