  • EPISODE 1
We spent a glorious three days in the beautiful Knysna area. Please come and explore with us from forest to sea and exhilarating activities to simple peaceful relaxation... We did it all! 😀
We show you all in four videos:
Episode 1: The trip from Cape Town to the Diepwalle Forest Station where we claim our camping deck spot emerged in the forest. We also visit and admire the spectacular King Edward VII Big Tree.
Episode 2: Camping at the camping decks at Diepwalle Forest Station and visiting the extraordinary Forest Legends Museum - there is an exhibit there that you would not want to miss!
Episode 3: This may be the most adrenalin rushing video we've ever made for BRC! We take on the Knysna Ziplines over a 200m deep gorge in Harkerville (not once, but four times!) and also visit The Garden of Eden and Noetzie before arriving at our Knysna tiny house for the first of two nights... Lovely!
Episode 4: We visit the Wild Oats Community Farmer's Market and beautiful Gericke's Point in Sedgefield before exploring the Old Main Library in Knysna, the Knysna Waterfront and lastly the iconic Knysna Heads. It was indeed sad for this lovely trip to come to an end...
    Thanks for watching! :-D

Werner and Annelie, your videos are a real treat to watch here in Virginia, USA. Thank you! I left Cape Town for the US 30 years ago, and the only regret is, (besides family back there and a good braai), I really miss the beauty and splendor of the Cape and how much it is in my DNA. However hearing Annelie’s love for trees, the Shenandoah Valley area here in Virginia is a must on your bucket list! Google Shenandoah fall foliage to take a look. Trees and forests abound for thousands of acres. We camp there frequently in our vintage VW Westfalia (kombi 😊). Perhaps I will video our next trip next weekend, to reciprocate! Thanks and looking forward to the next one, you guys are fun to watch!

Hi @MMusikanth, thanks so much for your wonderful comments! We love that you are watching our videos after being away for so long already, we hope that you come for visits though... 😀
I googled Shenandoah, wow, what a spectacle! I sometimes wonder whether one gets that kind of intense fall colouring anywhere in South Africa...? We will have to make a plan for BRC to come and drive the back roads of Shenandoah 🤣 We would love to see your video of the upcoming weekend trip... 😉

Thanks, Priscilla! We are certainly very pleased with the performance of the new camera and will make it a regular feature in trips to come 😀
You are correct! That silence was difficult to capture properly on camera, there was really NO sound to record 🤣
      Wishing you a great evening!

    Another very interesting adventure
I enjoyed the clearer lens with your camera positioned on the roof of your vehicle great idea. The forest was amazingly beautiful especially those tall trees. We have many National Parks in Australia so l have enjoyed many adventures therein.
Thanks again keep up the good work and play 👍

Dear Jane, thanks so much for your comments and for making sure to watch our videos, we really appreciate it and it is very special to us to know that someone so very far away is checking in on us 😀
Yes, that camera on the roof certainly makes for very clear footage, we will definitely make it a regular feature in upcoming trips...
The Knysna forest was amazing, but I'm sure there are many spectacular places in Australia as well... Maybe BRC should plan a trip to that continent as well 🤔🤣

The escapee water bottle provided a mirthful, entertaining moment 😅 It did not want to be caught.
I wish you were able to transmit the forest fragrances to all of us, but I drew on past memories and almost thought I was able to smell it with you.
The tree is absolutely breathtaking! I am going to rewatch this episode often! You have successfully transported me to the mysterious world of which you spoke, Annelie. And Werner, you have beautifully showcased this glorious tree! Thank you both so very much ❤

Ahhh guys! I'm so happy right now! Having had my first ever flight with a trip to Knysna earlier this year, this video was very special to me, and brought back wonderful memories ❤
I love that road that winds round the beloved lagoon! I hope you got to see the Heads as well!
I too was so privileged to go into the Knysna Forest on a guided scooter tour. I remember how absolutely quiet it was, and how everything was dwarfed by the magnificent trees. The tour guide told us an amazing point of interest about the trees- they instinctively "break off their limbs", dropping "dead weight" branches to the forest floor, so that they can rather channel water/nutrients etc to other parts instead. I found that fascinating, and really loved the Forest experience!
Your new camera is awesome! The footage is looking even better now 😊
Also loved your little stop at Peregrine! Such a charming little place!
Oh and must also mention that sometimes your videos give an ASMR experience 😂 When it's so quiet, with maybe just a rustle, faint bird chirping and Annelie speaking so softly, it's a bit like ASMR and is a soothing bonus to your videos 😄
This has made me fall in love with Knysna all over again, and yearn to see it again 😊
    Thank you ❤

Hi Kate (and mom)! What a coincidence that you also were in Knysna very recently! I can just imagine how well you can then relate with our amazing experiences with this trip... 😀
Not to worry, there are still many places to be shown in and around Knysna in the next three videos of this series, we have not missed The Heads 😉. There will be footage focused in the beaches coming up..., we know you will love it 😀 These three extra videos will be published over the next three Sundays...
The info shared of the forest and how shed off its branches is very interesting, we did not know that. Another fact that we find very interesting as well is that despite the trees growing so tightly together, its branches do not touch each other... We loved the forest experience, one can simply not help but to relax and be comforted by the majestic presence of the trees and forest sounds... 🙂
Thanks for the confirmation about the new camera! We were very pleased with how the footage turned out and we will definitely make this a regular feature of upcoming BRC trips...😁
We had to google ASMR 🤣, but what a huge compliment that our videos can have this effect! But the forest makes this inevitable, we would say...
Kate, not sure if you know about this, but I've started a new channel about 2 months ago where I post shorter videos sometimes containing BRC trip footage that was not used before. If you want to look at this, please search for
      @wernersview
on TH-cam. Would love to have your thoughts on this, although it is still very much a work in progress... There are two videos scheduled to be published this upcoming week still on the Werner's View channel...

@@backroadchronicles yes, but keep in mind the higher your frame rate the quickly the sd card will fill. Give it a try driving around the block :) if its an issue, Id not lose sleep over it. But the quicker the framd rate the smoother the piccels get draw.

Oh, how wonderful this was, seeing that magnificent Yellowwood overarching its youthful relatives! Thank you for making it the star of this week’s drone footage. And the accompanying music was perfect, Annelie.
It clearly elicited an immediate emotional response from you, Annelie with your, “I could cry!” utterance. No wonder! You recognised being in the presence of an ancient soul that has withstood the test of time (the seasons, droughts, storms, winds and countless life forms inhabiting its welcoming nooks, crannies and outstretched spaces, plus those that were simply passing by and perhaps took respite beneath its shade and sheltering embrace. If only it could share all it has seen, overheard and experienced in a language easily understood by us, mere mortals. That it still appears to be in excellent health bodes well for its continuing existence and contribution to the health of our planet.
Pity you had to experience the holdups of those seemingly endless roadworks - but what a joy to finally reach your destination! The campsite is beautifully laid out. Having had it all to yourselves hopefully proved to be an amazing experience, despite your initial reservations, Annelie - I know Frikkie’s presence would have vanquished those feelings, had it been possible for him to join you.
I would also have found it hard choosing the “perfect” spot, with so many equally perfect options available.
Peregrine and Houwhoek have featured many times in our travels on the N2. We have enjoyed both, more or less in equal measure. It’s nice to know they compete with each other.
Regarding your new rooftop camera (Werner’s new toy) - I think it adds to the overall enjoyment of your recordings! I’m eagerly looking forward to rejoining you in next week’s episode.

Hi Des, so good to be chatting again! 😀 I hope you are having a wonderful day. I'm always looking forward so much to your summary of the video, you simply have a way to describe the atmosphere so well and you are spot on with the emotions and feelings that were experienced by us next to that giant Yellowwood... We could not help but to subdue ourselves to the magnificence of its presence...
Choosing our campsite amongst so many perfect options was indeed a very pleasing challenge 🤣 We show of course much more of our camping experience in the next video... 😉
Thank you also about the confirmation that you like the footage from the new camera. It was a very enjoyable experiment indeed in this video, and I agree, it makes for wonderful footage. This will definitely become a regular feature in upcoming videos... 😀
Now, something about the videos for this series, I know I said there will be three videos in total for this series, but after working on the 7.5 hours total footage over the past two weeks, we've realised that there is enough to actually make four videos. So, I'm pleased to announce that this will be a four video series, and the next three videos will be published over the next three Sundays. We still have a lot to work on for these videos, but the hardest work has been done already. The three videos are already stripped down to ±40 minutes each and will likely end up as 25-35 min videos once all the refined editing has been completed (sorry if this is too much info 🤣)
Wishing you a great Sunday, Werner
