    I have 2 amano shrimp in a 10 gallon as well as 5 neon tetras, 2 otocinclus catfish, and 1 crown tail betta. Every once in a while the shrimp will encounter the betta and square up while slowly backing away but the betta doesnt care about them whatsoever haha. I have had a great experience keeping them so far

      I used to follow a dosing schedule with various Seachem products everyday and had to stop as it was getting to be a little too much work for the type of tank I was trying to keep. I would also notice a difference if I went on vacation and so stopped dosing overall.

    Not all tank mates are completely shrimp-safe. While Corydoras and Honey Gouramis may occasionally prey on baby shrimp that venture out in the open, they typically leave juvenile and adult Neocaridina Shrimp alone. If you decide to keep Amano Shrimp, try and keep them in an aquarium that has a lid. These shrimp are know to climb out of the tank to explore their surroundings. Actually I have 10 Blue shrimp from a local breeder, he said those are Blue Velvet, but some are very light, some are darker blue. When I check from a aqua store, their blue velvet are all in light colour, the darker one is Blue Dream. That's why I got confuse if Blue Velvet also has darker colour.

    I had some pop up in my shrimp tank, I was vaguely concerned initially. With a little research I learned a lot of different nano fish would eat them, so I bought some rocket kilifish from my lfs and the hydrya were gone in a couple weeks. As a bonus, the rocket kilifish look absolutely fantastic in my shrimp tank and provide extra entertainment for me when all my shrimp are hiding.

    Do you think a cherry barb can get along with cherry shrimp?

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I haven't kept Cherry Barbs with Cherry Shrimp as my Albino Cherry Barbs are kept with Short Nose Shrimp which are similar to Amanos. These fish get to about 2 inches in size so they can easily pick off babies if they're out in the open. I don't think they'll go after the adults as these fish are relatively peaceful but if you decide to try it out, have a backup tank in place to move the fish or shrimp to in case you notice any aggression. Also, if you plan to do this, the shrimp will be more confident if you put in at least 10 or so in the tank, otherwise they may just hide all the time.

    Hydra can't be starved out. I had a tank with hydra that I took the shrimp and fish out of and left for 5+ months without any input or food. It looked like there was no hydra and I needed the tank for a new batch of orange shrimp. As SOON as I started feeding again the hydra were back and I ended up having to treat with a half dose of No Planaria.

My 20g is under control because it’s half predators half scavengers, but the 5 has seen better days. Do you have any recommendations for small 5.5g predators that will munch on these?
