    Red Cherry Shrimp make excellent additions to a community aquarium. Whether you're just getting into shrimp keeping or want to learn more about these peaceful, vibrant creatures, check out this book by my good friend Richard from @FishKeepingAnswers: bit.ly/44G0TUd

      You're welcome. I like to be transparent because there's always a chance someone could be experiencing the same ups and downs. And there's lessons to be learned.

    I'm not a shrimp expert but I think the problem is your tank is too free of algae & biofilm that they were dying of hunger. The older shrimp required more food to constantly eat and you had 75. Another problem may be the lack of shade for hiding & lack of water flow & lack of mulm. Also, shrimp do better with a vast array of micro fauna. Maybe add a bucket of dirty pond/lake water first & let it settle for a month.

      Haha. you say you are no expert but the given advice looks pretty much dead-on. Totally agree.

      What you're seeing in the final stages of the video is a from late May to April. I made a whole playlist from the tank build, to the plants taking over the entire tank so there was tons of shade and biofilm as well. I usually let me tanks sit for a month before adding any shrimp to it. I have multiple shrimp tanks and this is the first time I've experienced an issue like this where they randomly just die off. They are well fed with powdered and pellet foods and again, there is biofilm in the tank. After moving all the shrimp to the new tank, I haven't seen any issues so there is something wrong with the tank itself. It could be the wood, something in the substrate, etc.

    They look great with the neons,Andy!
    I need to redo one of my shrinp tanks as it has done nothing in 3 months. It's choked with duckweed. Thank god my other shrimp tank is thriving or I would feel like giving up! This way I see it as a fun learning experience.

      Thank you :) Re-scaping a tank can be a fun and learning experience as you get to test your capabilities. As you come across more content, you're using that information to try and create something better.

    I've been having a similar issue with my red cherries lately. It's really hard to watch them die and not know how to fix it.
    In my tank the adults (specifically the males from what I can tell) have been slowly dying over the last couple of months, but the babies seem to be doing fine and most of the adult females have been fine as well.

      Yes it's odd and sometimes a tank reset needs to be done.

    Sorry this happened! You made a lovely video with a really good message to document it though so good on you! I hope the shrimp thrive in their new tank. I kept shrimp with a breeding group of celestial pearl danios who I had breed in a tray attached to an air uplift system and a hang on breeding box. Well didn’t that box get filled with baby shrimp as well as fish fry! It kept them safe and gave them a good spot to grow out. Just an idea for a little shrimp sanctuary when there are possible predators. I have a video of the CPD breeding setup on my channel.

      Thank you ❤️ So far, they are doing well in their new tank but I'll keep an eye on them for another few weeks. I'll have to check out your video because I do love CPDs. I have a few as well in the tank I took the additional 20 from.

      Damselfly Nymphs are pretty crazy. This is one I found last year in one of my other tanks and it was a lot larger than these 2: th-cam.com/video/fMKrdZ-Qnuo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W20l3r4GyLmbHpf6

    Really sucks looks like it’s time for a tank reset and start fresh I would think somethings going on in the substrate or something in the tank is contaminated hope everything works out I’m sure they will be ok in the new tank

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I figured the same that something in there was affecting them. After moving them to their new tank with the same substrate, I haven't seen any issues. It could even be the piece of wood. I'm taking the entire tank apart this week, clean it out, reset and re-scape it for my Betta. I'll then test again with a few shrimp to see how they do in there.

    Sad video, but man, is that an awesome piece/ pieces of wood! I love tangled roots and branches.
    Not done w/ the video, but I wonder if the "manzanita" wasn't really manzanita. I just tried to help someone in a forum who added store bought driftwood that had been sterilized and soaked before adding it to their shrimp tank but it caused a huge bacterial bloom/ possible poisoning.
    I mean, bought wood usually comes from overseas and we just blindly trust it's safe. It could have chemicals, pesticides and not even be the type of wood we think it is. I bought a piece of "spider wood" at a reptile shop that turned the soaking bucket purple. Literally stained the plastic!

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly, it could be the wood, something in the substrate (although it's the same one I used for my Amano tank) or even just the tank itself. I do love the piece of wood but I'm hesitant on using it again. I will probably go for a different setup to be safe.

    Oh wow, I have honestly in all these years never seen someone handle damselfly nymphs nor had to handle them myself, but I found one in my tiny 20 2 weeks ago, cut it in half, then found another a few days later and chased that down for about a week until I managed to get some long scissors around it. Checking daily for more but shit, I didn't realise they swam and I have a lot of egeria najas in the top column. Fun.
    I haven't spotted planaria YET but I do have a little scutariella which I'm not bothering to deal with yet as I've been struggling for months to get it in order and finally have a beautiful berried shrimp who is due to drop any day.

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Damselfly Nymphs were hard to get out. I had to wait till they were in the open and then use my tweezers to grab them.

    • @whiskyeet
      @whiskyeet 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shrimplycanadian yep, took me a week to get an angle on the second one. The first jumped off a decoration and sunk to the bottom so I just snipped it in half where it was and left it for the shrimp. It's not like they're fast either and they're really lazy too, they just seem to hide much better than shrimp.

    The other day I finally cleaned my filter I was soo careful I squashed a baby which was my first death ever then I forgot to plug my heater back in and left the house for a bit lucky I caught it when it had only dropped almost two degrees I had too much on my mind and forgot

    • @shrimplycanadian
      @shrimplycanadian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry about your loss. Shrimp are such incredibly fragile creatures. I had one jump out of my tank the other day and managed to save it just in time but it took a while to scoop up as they are hard to pick up off the ground. In regards to your heater, I had a similar issue but the wire somehow got unplugged. I was doing some maintenance and realized that the water was a lot colder than usual and that's when I noticed that the temperature had dropped almost 5 degrees.
