Thank you very much. I've been trying various styles of editing to see what resonates with viewers and I'm really leaning forward to this method. I also didn't know about the various types until I initially setup this tank a few months ago. I really love the Snow Amanos. All of these wonderful shrimp really know how to bring an aquarium to life.
Ooooh, those are *awesome* chunks of dragonstone! I've found shrimp just love the stuff, because there's both a lot of surface area to pick at like lave rock, but also so many nooks and crannies they can get in to if you cleared out all the clay that tends to fill interior spaces. I have one Amano in a betta cube that has a bunch of dragonstone and i can almost never find him because he spends a lot of time *inside* the stone :)
Thank you for the sub :) When I setup this tank, I think a Ramshorn or 2 may have gotten in when I introduced the plants because as it matured over the course of the first 4 weeks, I spotted two small ones. If you have a lot of snails, you could try adding a few to your tank and see how it goes from there. Personally, I've never tried it by physically placing them in there. Feed the tank powdered foods to get it cycled and to build up the biofilm and in turn your snails will automatically get fed as well. Just remember that in no time, you can also have a lot of snails in your tank because they will multiply quickly to the amount of available food in there.
Can you try to create an Amano tank that promotes Amano breeding? Like a semi-brackish water tank ... or a long tank with one end that's warm, soft & low pH while the other end is cold salt water. There are ways to keep the entire tank from completely mixing like low temp in salt water and high temp in freshwater. You can put a glass divider with a tube only at the top. Heat rises and freshwater is lighter than salt water so the salt water will never rise high enough to reach the tube. Over time, you'll get a brackish section.
For this to work, I would need to have a go at breeding these shrimp multiple times to see what works. The Snow Amanos in this tank were locally bred and supplied to the shrimp store so it is possible but getting the conditions right is the hard part and requires a lot of experimenting.
That's a beautiful tank. Where do you purchase your shrimp from, if I may ask? I'm in BC and it's hard to find a place that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
I've never had that happen. Bigger Amano's will tend to take food first, but as long as you're feeding adequately they'll be fine. I don't have 20 in one tank, mind you, I think 6 in a tank is the most I've had, but they've never really bullied anything beyond getting food first.
As WinterDark said, if a pellet can be stolen by a bigger one, they definitely will hog it for themselves but I usually throw in a few which I break up as well as feed powdered foods so there's always something for everyone.

Fellow Ontarian here! I didn’t realize there were a number of varieties of Amanos! Lovely tank and very nice video!

So true. I recently put Pom Pom Crabs into this tank and they found every little nook and cranny there was that I never knew existed.
Beautiful video Shrimply! My Amano's are doing very well....l did not know they grew to be so big! Nearly two inches.
❤
Wait till the next minor update as one of the newer Amanos I placed in there is a lot larger than everything in the tank currently.
I love you videos! They’re so interesting and informative! Also your voice is nice and easy to listen to, very calming. 🎉 Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them 😊
I want to see a Scottish Lobster in there!!
Lol.. so specific!
Hey man, I dig the content. Earned a new sub.
Do you also recommend the snail-in cycle? And if so, how soon should I add ramshorn snails to the tank?

I wish I could have duck weed. My mystery snails keep eating it 😂
Lol. At least you have something that's controlling them from taking over your tank.

do the bigger amanos bully the smaller ones?
