Hmmm. I'm interested in adding these to my 75g shrimp and nano fish tank. Theres near a thousand neocaradina (and several bamboo+amano) shrimp in there now, so a couple micropredators eating the odd baby shrimp will help keep shrimp numbers sustainable, and those ahrimp have LOTS of good hiding places to grow. I already feed with frozen food 3x a week, so thats not really a problem. And they're gorgeous.
I have 4 scarlet Badis in a 20 gallon long. There are lots and lots of hiding caves, and natural plants. I put about 20 red cherry shrimp culls in it at the start. Fast forward 7 months, and the shrimp population is probably over 100 red cherries now. The 4 basis are still healthy, but unfortunately appear to be all males. I also have a few Endler guppies too. I feed live baby brine shrimp 2-3 times a week. And flake the other days. I’ve never seen the basis eat anything but the baby brine

I bought one male badis for my skittles tank after seeinf one of your videos, and the little guy has a great personality! I feed him crushed pond snails, frozen shrimp, mosquito larvae and sometimes baby brine shrimp. They are really stunning fish
@@BabyMango just the crushed ones I think, since the population of the snails seems to still be steadily increasing, but I might be wrong. I never saw my badis eat a live snail tho

They are too small. Even the aquasoil particles are bigger in size. Got three today but could not find them after releasing in to my aquarium. I got them for 14cents each
Yes, they should be able too as they prefer peaceful tank mates. Guppies tend to stay in the top of the water column while Scarlet Badis will stay in lower section primarily so the two species will have very little interaction with each other.

I love these little fish! If you're considering getting these fish, make sure you have an established aquarium with a lot of hiding spots. I don't even feed mine anymore since there is enough microfauna to keep the well fed.
Yes it will eat newborn baby shrimp less than 2 weeks old. You need to ensure you have lots of hiding places for your shrimp like plants, caves, driftwood, etc.

I do enjoy mine but one of the two is strangely aggressive, he chases my pea puffers and even my pygmy corys. Neither of which have ever fought back, thankfully. I'd consider my tank to be heavily planted but I'm going to try and add some denser plants that might offer more preferable cover. 10 gallon shallow 2 pygmy corys 2 otocinclus 3 female pea puffers 2 male scarlet badis (I think)
Have you ever entered your favorite fishstore, looked at their new stuff and immediatly fell in love with a fish? That happened to me over 15 years ago with the scarlet badis. Many years later, I still have them, but also Hysignon badis, Myanmar badis, etc. They're just great and beautiful lil fishes!
Those are a gorgeous fish! I've seen them offered on Dan's Fish, but couldn't get a good idea of the size. I really love how the white line on the front of the pectoral fins gives a look almost of a gourami, and the orange spots really make them pop. The colour is as bright as any saltwater fish. This is definitely a fish I will keep in mind for a future tank! Pair these up with a couple of larger shrimp, such as a pair of "vampire" shrimp, or the distantly related Bamboo shrimp, and either a couple of purple striped Hercules snails and perhaps a pagoda snail, and you'd have a lightly stocked, yet very colourful, aquarium. Depending on the level of algae growth on the glass, you could probably get away with adding a couple of either red-tail or blue-tail hillstream loaches too. If the aquarium glass doesn't grow much algae, I'd probably not add the hillstream loaches, or any other glass cleaning fish (eg otocynclus), and just be sure to scrape the glass a little more often. After all, the purple striped Hercules snails and the pagoda snail are going to chow down on some algae clinging to the glass before it's even noticeable to the eye, and in a tank like this, one isn't going to want to clutter things up with too many critters. I love the way the Blue Dream neocaradina look in this tank, and the only reason why I personally would hesitate to put them in is because I'm a softy and wouldn't want to see the babies get predated upon. That's a personal problem with me though, as I know from experience that if left unchecked, they will proliferate at an amazing rate. I also love watching vampire shrimp and bamboo shrimp using their little feathery fans to grab food out of the water column. One nice thing about purple striped Hercules snails is the way they tend to dangle off of the glass and hardscape of an aquarium, giving the vibe of stalactites in a cave, or icicles hanging down. These icicles move though, so you're not stuck with the same scene all the time. Purple striped Hercules snails can be difficult to source though, especially reasonably decent quality ones which have been well kept and don't have a lot of lines across the shell from not getting enough calcium and minerals to build their shells properly. It's not a hard thing to keep them fed in a way which will keep their shells in good shape, so I'm not sure why so many suppliers produce snails which have bad shells. It says to me that the breeder either doesn't know what they're doing, or doesn't really care, and is in it just to make a quick profit. I have tripled the size of my purple striped Hercs, and have never managed to mess up a shell. I really do like the look of your scarlet badis though, and I think I'm going to have to put them high on the list of fish to consider for a future tank. In fact, I can't imagine not keeping them now that I've seen your video.
They are beautiful fish and they have that cichlid-like behaviour to them while also looking like a Dwarf Gourami. I just love the fact that they are only 1 inch in size and pretty active.

Ensure your tank is big enough as males will get territorial. They will get to about an inch in size.

pretty fish. they get stocked in lfs once in a long while but I didn't have a tank ready when they were available.
I've experienced the same with shrimp hence why I'm going to keep two quarantine tanks running at all times.
Maybe well behaved fish, maybe this man is just a legend in getting the ultimate level of quality footage 😮
