Deeply in love with humanity, and all the beautiful things we make.

I Was Wrong About Skyrim
มุมมอง 164Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I've always thought that Skyrim was a good foundation, but one that fundamentally required mods to rework the core systems just to make the game play-able. But after seeing a video by Joov, in which he adapted the Ironman gamemode from Oldschool Runescape into Skyrim, I started to get the feeling I might have been wrong, that there were systems in Skyrim that I wasn't giving the game credit for...

Alchemy in Skyrim: Completely useless during a vanilla playthrough. Alchemy in Oblivion: Absolutely essential for a spellcaster and incredibly helpful for martial characters as well, because healing is more difficult, magicka doesn't regenerate as quickly, and low fatigue decreases your damage significantly. Alchemy in Morrowind: Makes you the Overgod of the universe who's able to kill actual gods by hitting them with a tablespoon once, and fly away at lightspeed. Also, what's magicka regeneration? You can't have that without alchemy or enchanted items.
Lol Skyrim player discovers Skyrim
This gave me ideas to flesh out my own most recent self challenge run, thanks!
Came here from Joov’s vod channel. Not disappointed. Keep it up bro!
Liking for ranger's apprentice reference
I just started getting insane amounts of Skyrim content fed to me on TH-cam this week. This video made me decide to play it again. I haven't played in 4-5 years after 509 hours played on steam alone. Everything you mention is what I remember enjoying about the game most - slow, deliberate, and methodical gameplay. Thanks for the good video!
Checked the steampage lately? Bloodlines 2 is scheduled to release in 2025 (even tho its already been out obviously) its supposed to be a first person rpg. It appears to be a direct sequal to Bloodlines. Tf is happening is this vid from a different universe or something?! Im so confused...
What was the difficulty
Im in the exact same boat as you. Every single game i play where there are limited or valuable items, consumables, or currency, i always hoard them and save them for a good time but never end up using them at all and went through the full game with less fun cause i didn't use the fun stuff.
Nice video. I always treated alchemy to make a lot of gold. I never considered playing the game without using it. Skyrim takes me back to my freshman year of college where I didn't go to class for 3 days and just played the game all day. Good times.
The thing I want to say is that Corvo is able to kill not just some rascals or scoundrels (most of the time), but the people he once sworn to protect. He is not only the bodyguard of the Empress, he is the Royal Protector. He had been looking for the cure to the citizens of Dunwall before the game prologue and it says a lot. Corvo should protect everyone in the Empire. But after 6 months in prison, being claimed as a person responsible for regicide, he is... He may want his revenge, to kill anyone who believed him as a monster, but by doing that he only proves that he is a slaughtering monster. It is a moral choice that I absolutely love in Dishonored.
Okay, I feel like comparing skyrim to dark souls is kind of unfair, because dark souls is literally built around fencing. Yeah, you can say DS has archery and magic also, but they are so hilariously unbalanced, that it is clear where the main focus went. With actions like block, parry and dodge, and weapons actually staggering with light attacks all these different animations and hitboxes actually matter. You could have all the weapon variety, that dark souls has in skyrim and melee combat would not be a lick better. The problem is, that combat is barely interactive.
My cousin was design director for ODST. Growing up I recall his US Army photos on the wall, the parallels of being a paratrooper dropping into an area of options compared to being an “ODST” drives the plot in this game from the Halo Universe. He worked with some of the best in the industry to complete this project. It was a great game to me, and it kept me busy during my university years. I recall the ambiance of the main menu of the city being played in the background while I completed various school work. It truly gave a “legendary” feel; being challenged to play without Spartan armor. I appreciated listening to this coverage of ODST, your perspective on the plot was thorough and brought back great memories. 👍 Great shoutout to the Siege of Madrigal, from Myth. The theme you described about, “we are most capable is when we are with people we can rely on,” was something my cousin had lived on the game of Myth with his team Civil Order, they’d gone on a 8-0 tournament run from 98-00 on Bungie’s myth battlefields where teams numbered 5-7 in roster sizes. It’s safe to say this teamwork also played a role in teams creating the first 3 Halo games. It makes sense to me a game he would direct and design would encompass the theme of working well as a team to accomplish goals, it’s echoed throughout this game as well as how it’s foundation was created. 👍
Also if you do the dark brotherhood you get a reward from the girl in markarth that is a ring that enhances alchemy
Ok fine I’ll start a new Skyrim play through!
kinda bummed I missed the live but look forward to catching up Thursday!
That storeroom with dwemer ingots is South of Kyensgrove at Mzluft storeroom. Just stay on the road South towards Riften and can see it from the road..... I'm a little late on this sorry.
Joov's videos are great!
should have had the spells on a bar of like 4-5 spells then had items you could hold that would buff the spells like books or orbs, septres then be able to use staff or a sword would make the magic game play much more fun intead of having to remember quickslots or favourites which makes the game pause
So you name your horse Tug right?
Daggers can actually be a bit more OP than bows, with a certain perk daggers get a 15x sneak attack multiplier and it stacks with dual wield strikes making it 30x the combined damage of the daggers so if you have 2 legendary daedric or dragon bone daggers thats a lot of damage.
You keep saying no one can stop you but that's not true. Yes you're powerful but you can get killed pretty easily
He basically became the potion seller.
It's really just because of the Drauger that FusRoDah your silly helpless ass 205 million times in a single dungeon. It became too ridiculous and annoying for gamers. So we crouch and one shot them with x2 damage. Eventually you realize that it is a successful strategy to use in any combat. That's why snipers where not allowed to use Jagger misters during the Revolutionary War. It was considered cheating and unethical to shoot someone that couldn't even see the whites of your eyes.
Liking and commenting because you gave a spider warning before showing it. Thank you
The first time I got Skyrim I played archer until I accidentally knifing Adrianne in stealth and saw the damage multiplier. Since then I play stealth for months and got bored. Tried Pure Destruction mage it feels weak early game and extremely OP in late game. Tried 2H warrior feels too OP since early to late game. I ranted online about it and someone recommended me Requiem mod and I never played skyrim without it and never played stealth archer with it and I'm happy with Orc warrior build. I've always played Nord or Dunmer before but this mod makes me think real hard before choosing my race.
Internet connection isn't allowed in the Ironman challenge because you didn't build your router yourself.
😂
In Oblivion and Morrowind the magic System was so fun and complex. You could make so broken spells. You want to travel from city to city at light speed? You can do that. You want to make a spell that drains people's health while doing fire damage? You can do that. Black Soul Gems had a purpose and you could do rituals to charge them. I hope ES6 goes back to these roots.
I killed everything i could, because i prefer it, and i am a trash im stealth
I'm assuming he died and that's why the stream is already over. Can't believe i missed it. Stupid Education
Lionel survived, but my internet connection did not =\
ah shucks i missed another one! im sure this one will go so very smoothly with no bad things happening whatsoever to our hero
When will we catch a break sportsfans
Congrats on discovering how the game is to be played. Most of what you shared, is how we played it before mods became common place. I still only use QOL mods, not game play mods. I can't imagine not using alchemy, smithing, and enchanting in a play through, of course you have to limit the number of cycles you buff your enchanting or you become way too op. Also, have you ever gathered all the stones of Bezriah(sp)? Of course in this play through it'd be useless since you cant us trades.
Your take is interesting because i personally find archery boring in skyrim and almost all games besides VR. I didn’t grow up with archery and i play games to feel as if Im immersed in the game because i want to “live” through the character in the game. I love melee combat because Melee is up close and personal and i personally find that more fun. Your comparison to dark souls is also interesting because dark souls and all the other souls games are my all time favorite games. The melee combat is extremely satisfying and rewarding. They also taught me that ranged weapons, AKA Bows, Are extremely important to utilize when playing a game like dark souls. The souls games also taught me the importance of magic for the same reason. Different strokes for different folks. And thats the beauty of video games and other similar media because it joins groups of people that otherwise don’t have things in common and allows them to rally behind a thing they love.
I’d love to know if you’ve played Signalis, while not cyberpunk I think you’d really like it!!! It’s a haunting game and wonderfully presented, I can’t recommend it enough!
Fun fact, Signalis was actually going to be game #3 for this video until I found Anno, and swapped them. Signalis will probably still happen eventually.
@ can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it when you eventually get around to playing it! Also thank you so much for the amazing video!!!
Personally I liked playing over twice, the first time I'd play violent and simple, with the New Game+ I'd go as low Kaos as possible because it was much more simple with all your abilities.
Ok dude, we get it. You only played 2 or 3 builds for over a decade...
Well i sure did it cause it was fun
Most "first time" playthroughs don't use mods, or if they do, they have a friend install SkyUI. Skyrim is fine without mods and a first playthrough should be as vanilla as possible. Mods are awesome but they turn Skyrim into something else.
Dishonored is my favorite game, and this was able to articulate perfectly just why i love it so much.
Ranger's Apprentice mentioned. That's a sub
I mean i played Skyrim on the switch so i dont have any mods at all. I just....played the game? I do love crafting systems though, so i always end up speccing into alchemy no matter what the build im going for 😂
