I've had a similar experience with a dartfrog tadpole (tricolors). Would have loved to see what comes out but didnt make it either. I've read that with axolotls on rare occasions it has been possible to induce their development to their land stage by lowering the water level over time stimmulating a drought. Might be worth exploring. Happy frog keeping :)
I have been concerned that you may have had issues and problems as a result of the resent weather events in Texas. So glad you did not have a repeat of what happened a few years ago. Keep safe happy and healthy.
The fresh water sponge could be really valuable for breeding some of the rarer L number plecos, there is a small TH-cam channel called freshwater ichthyology that deep dives into the subject, you might find it interesting
Interesting. I have no idea what value to place on this species. I'll look into it. Email me at charles@goliadfarms.com, and we'll see what we can work out. Charles
1:23 THIS. Sir, this is why I think you are the greatest educator out there. Would you share the name of the sp? Just for fun, please! Thank you very much!
The name of frog or the sponge? The frog is Lithobates catesbeianus, and the sponge is Dosilia radiospiculata. I have named the frog Fred-the-Frog. Charles
That depends on size. For 1-2" fish as many as 300. For adult male cichlids, as many as 150., but usually around 75. Here's a blog I wrote about this long ago showing a vat with 144 adult male cichlids: goliadfarms.com/fish-growth-inhibition/ Charles
The accelerated growth(via high protein/ammounts of feeding) rates in early development can cause health and longevity issues with the frogs in the long run. Something to keep in mind if that concerns you.
Interesting. We don't force their growth, and we don't deliberately raise them. They simply take advantage of our systems to feed, mate, and produce offspring. Charles
@goliadfarms7029 poor phrasing on my part, didn't mean to imply you were doing it intentionally. Just excessive high protein feeding and ideal warm temperatures year round can accelerate growth tremendously. See it commonly with pet turtles that grow large and dont have time to grow the muscle and body mass to properly support the shells.
@@P-K-P No problem. It didn't take it as criticism. Thanks for the information. So far, its normal siblings seem to be growing normally. Of course, now they have to catch fish, mice, and insects on their own. No more well-stocked buffet for them. Charles
Glad to see another video! Hopefully the cold snap hasn’t been much of a problem.
We plan to resume more frequent videos. Last night was the coldest night of this winter, and I hope the last. So far, so good.

Thank you for the information. I put in a 55-gallon vat by itself and haven't seen it for a while. I'll check on it when things warm up a bit.
Charles
Wow. I'd love to see a close up inspection of the sponges.
yes the sponges are fascinating to me!

It got colder than I like, but we wintered what should have been the coldest night of the year last night. So far, so good.
Charles

Thank you. I'll look into that.
Charles
Great video
Happy new year! Really good to see another video
Merry New Year! We will have to do a close-up video of the sponges.
Charles
So cool to see morphs
I haven't heard of the mutation before, maybe because they don't survive metamorphosis.
Charles
Pretty interesting, how is this weather with you guys hope all is well 👍
Another great video. Hope the cold is not too bad.
Last night was our coldest night and we survived that.
Charles
I would be interested in purchasing some sponge.

When i was a kid,i kept bullfrog tadpoles in aqauriums.Ime,if they didnt get hair algae they wouldn't metamorph into frogs.
How many cichlids do you keep per 55gallon?

Man I love that light one!
It is interesting. After the fish one died, I hope the second one survives. I'd like to see what it looks like as an adult.
Charles
Aww I miss all the fishies
Hope you are doing well Stormy!
We miss you too!
Stormy, you have visitation rights!
Charles
@ well I’ll be around that area Saturday. Y’all going to be around?
@ Susie will be in Austin until Sunday night, but I'll be here.
Charles
You can hear those Bull Frogs a mile away 😅 well maybe not a mile but 😊 🐸
They are loud and very startling at night when I'm checking the greenhouses.
Charles
That place is full lil surprise wildlife goodies, i could spend everyday just hangin out "will work for free" after i retire lol
I've only touched on the diversity in the greenhouses. Retire soon!
Charles
Very cool😊
It is a very cool tadpole. I'm hoping he grows up.
Charles
The sponge is Dosilia radiospiculata!
I think I remember that from when you originally identified it for us. It seems to be happy in our systems.
Charles
Stay warm this win ter!
We just had what I hope was the coldest night of the year, and we survived it. This morning is warming up fast with full sun.
Charles
Well, Heavens to Betsy, I never knew there was such a thing, ... as a fresh water sponge ! Way cool ! ............google time for me !
fun video!
Thank you. I'm hoping that second frog makes to to adulthood.
Charles
Nice 😁
Thank you for watching.
Charles
Interesting
Thank you. It is an interesting frog. I hope it survives to adulthood.
Charles
I thought frogs were not real...
You're thinking of birds. 👍
They are real. They thrive in the greenhouses.

Fred the tadpole
It's almost time to check on Fred-the-Tadpole's status again.
