Pleasure vs. Joy: What's the Difference and What Do We Need the Most?
Pleasure is something everyone loves and seeks. But it can mislead you and bring more, way more harm than you think. Even though it feels great, pleasure can poison your life.
It directly impacts our attempts at transformation... it is a clear obstacle in front of us when we want to melt that stubborn belly fat.
But we, as humans, have that need for comfort and good feelings.
What can help then?

No doubt, going out and not drinking can be “boring “. However, the trade-off is you wake up feeling good and ready to tackle the day. As for me, I just limit the time I spend going out. What have I learned? That I’m really into fitness, enjoyed being outside, I even just took up rucking. These are all more aligned with my purpose.

That's amazing congratulations. 5 years, wow that's impressive. I'm a dr jeckyl my hyde type of alcoholic and i kept drinking thinking this time would be better but it never was. I was so ashamed, lost many good friends. Drank at home to numb the pain. I finally decided after being brutally sick with my liver flaring up again that something has to be better then this. I cried a lot. I'm now 23 days sober and my mental health has improved in ways I never imagined possible. Some days it's hard the cravings hit badly but I'm feeling better at the same time. I comment on quit drinking videos. You and this type of content is very inspiring and helps me. I'm in AA too. The path you took to quit apparently works too I appreciate your advice so much.

This is a great point. Almost every ancient philosophy had a physical discipline/frugality/temperance component …. Not just as a physical aesthetic, but as a means to elevating the spirit and the mind. The modern expectation of fitness is probably “putting the cart before the horse” which is why it so often lets people down.

Consistency is really important to accomplish what you have done. I was really motivated in my early 20s and in great shape. By 33 years old I was drinking and eating a really dirty diet as well. I think by 33 I was at least 330lbs. I got sick of it and found new motivation when I started trying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Having a reason for me to get back into the gym and train has helped a lot. Two years later I’m 278 lbs and still going. Stay hard brother and keep up the good work.

At the end & before the sobriety lifeline I was intoxicated 247 so my entire being and personality was as a drunk. And it was 10 years like that. So getting sober was a slap in the face. I mean I couldn't escape me any longer. So I had to fix everything and that's not easy having no crutch. So I've seen and met some folks who just got sober and it was like an overnight miracle but 95% of us, it's just a hardcore struggle but it's worth it. Find a few people and activities that give you joy and be grateful for it!!

I'm sober after almost 30 years of extremely heavy drinking. And I'm just being honest when I say I don't crave it, but sobriety is often very boring. All I can add is that if you need to quit, don't wait as long as I did. Have regular screenings and if you start to develop cirrhosis, cutting back can and will help. If you ignore the signs, you will end up with stage 4, which is where I'm at and it's extremely unpleasant. There is no stage 5.
