Tips to Make the PERFECT Reference Sheet
Well. … Ok My mum is an artist. She’s posted stuff on TH-cam, and has a lot of experience So I’ve learned just about everything from her… And some others. … so I think I can take a commission… but… Ok this just made me realize something Ok one sec brb
Hahaha I respect the red and black hair and clothes! My fursona is black and red as well hahaha
I stopped doing commissions as a teen because an online "friend" was commissioning art of, unbeknownst to me, his kink. Which was against my ToS. After this I just stopped doing commissions to protect myself. I also agree with not interacting with people too much older than you, however even people just a few years older than you can take advantage of you as a minor. There's often a big maturity difference between a 12 year old and a 16 year old for example. Don't trust ANYONE or get too familiar with them when you're a minor online
I have a "dreamie" folder. However, I plan on keeping it empty. :3
Don't forget to keep your personal account for IRL friends very separate from your art account. Perhaps even private your personal account. The last thing anyone needs is someone else being able to track you down personally whether it's malicious or not.
im not in the art community at all but you got randomly recommended to me and ur cool
I personally just surround myself with fandoms I like, I only friend people on VR, since it’s a lot easier to determine if they are a 40 year old predator or not. I use discord frequently and people try to add me a lot but I simply refuse and tell them I don’t really add people very often. (Which I don’t, since I’m not one to initiate friendships. I don’t know how to start conversations anyway.) and sharing my art just makes me feel so silly and swag since people end up liking my art and it makes me feel happy and awesome!!!! Because I love my art and I love when people like my art!!!!! If they don’t, that’s fine! :3 there’s an Ace Attorney discord that’s really cool, the people there are very helpful and mostly swag from my experience!! (I haven’t found any people that weren’t silly) and then there’s a cool Bungo Gay Dog (bungo stray dogs) server which is also really cool and fun! The people there are pretty nice and welcoming! They are very silly. And the PJSK(project sekai/Hatsune Miku: colorful stage!) discord is cool! They removed our image and gif permissions though since people kept leaking content💔 the only bad experiences I’ve had is from just like one small portions of fandoms, besides VR games entirely since majority of the people on them are misogynistic or some form of hateful. :3 it’s pretty silly though! I haven’t had any bad experiences in the current fandoms I surrounded myself in :3 Oh my golly I was yapping sorry
Artists, stop. 67% of all art studios get deleted in less then 5 years.
stranger danger, kids...
The tangents in the art piece is killing me T_T
I'm a man who prefers giving people a lot of breathing room. The adopts scene isn't any different. If someone adopts a character from me, it's theirs. Aside from discouraging them from selling them for money*(and I plan on changing this ONE aspect to be more conditional)*, they get to do whatever the heck they want. Wanna change their species? Go ahead. Wanna make their personality completely different? Your call, boss. Wanna give them a big ol' family consisted of many other characters you made or adopted? Dewit. Got disconnected from them, and wanna give them away? I mean, it's your call. I ain't stopping you. And it baffles me that there's people out there who aren't like this. Why do they think it's okay to basically stifle creativity, or prevent someone from owning the oc as advertised.
Yeah, the block button is your best friend/body guard when it comes to problematic people, and I'm tired of people acting like it isn't. This may be unrealistic, but I can imagine it being tied with a DNI list for a rather clever trap made specifically for bad actors and trolls.
ur inspiring me smmm omgomg
I think context and how you go about it can make some of these things work (like DNI lists and certain stuff in the bio) I think it is about how you word it AND how old you are. Never put stuff about yourself online as a kid. Because my platform is smaller I can put stuff like "I have chronic pain and it may take me longer to do stuff please be patient" without worrying too much
Dumb furry
:3
I have 3 fursonas and most of the things listed in the video are present in them lol Their names are Cristal, Lun and Limão Cristal has blue as main color(she's the one in my profile picture) and Lun has blue in her color pallette All of the 3 have head fur tuff, actually all my furry ocs have lol I put them for the same reason as yours Lun has a collar, halos and glasses as optional accessories, Cristal has a non-optional bowtie And talking about accessories i think we should add more glasses to our characters, it looks cool Lun is a hybrid/frankstain, she's a alien chameleon, however sometimes i think in redesigning her as just an alien, but keeping some chameleon features like curl tail and horns(and maybe add some hooves on her, i was thinking about hooves and maybe they look cool) Limão too! He's a gryphon(a eagle lion hybrid) And Lun have heterocromia, simply because it looks cool in her design, she has purple as main color, and pink and blue as split colors Also, my persona(Tenebris) also have heterocromia, she has one purple eye and one green eye
I think it can be good for teens to be friends with adults, but not because they keep commissioning you or something. It should be found like a friendship is found, not like a job is. Friendship should not be seeked out via DMs, in my opinion, that's too direct; seek out a group of people that share an interest, like a game or even art lol. As to why I think it can be good, some people do not have good parents and having good adults in ones life can be really important and/or beneficial. Be careful, no matter how you met them though. Safety first on the internet!
YESSSS Why does no one discuss these things?? As a bit of a more kind of mature artist/musicain online here, I do not understand why kids don't do this!!!! These are harmful things for outside and INSIDE factors like mental health for you personally. I'd love a part 2, that'd be so cool and informative for those who do not know!
Homophobic people when they’re in the dni list of a 14 year olds scenecore Danganronpa themed carrd
i do very rarely sell designs, though i am not active in the scene at all because i think the whole concept is silly. (why would i buy other peoples designs when i can just make one that i like better...? and likewise, sell my own? i only buy designs off of my friends or mutuals to support them, honestly.) my personal tos? once i have my money, and you have your file, we're good. thats your legal property. i remanded full legal rights to you. i dont care what you do with it, or dont do with it. if you do something immoral with the design? oh well, that sucks, because i cant do shit. its not mine anymore. i sold it. i also have a "you dont have to credit me" policy. is it nice? yea, sure. but you BOUGHT the rights. i dunno. the whole character trading culture just seems a little silly to me personally, and the rules surrounding it even more so. if someone tried to revoke a design i PAID for? that just really fuckin sucks for them because i paid for the rights. and its mine. shrug.
it also leads to a really weird adopt/character trading culture in the greater art and furry communities. because ive seen some popular artist sell the most plain jane white dog design for like, 400 dollars. its not even about the art or the character, its about the person who drew it...? the whole culture is bizarre to me.
i need people to listen to me, don’t be afraid to block people who make you uncomfortable or are just really weird on your profiles i’ve had to just endure people bc engagement things but it comes to a point you either have to hash it out or just block people bc it just wears down your mental state and i think it’s important to yourself to not take that behavior lying down and let others do the same
DNI’s are just performative and have the opposite effect. People can just make accounts to get over them. Block people if you see them, but don’t announce it to the entire planet. “Racist/homophobe/proship/predator/whatever DNI” is just performative. If they have zero compassion and don’t care about hurting people, do you think they’ll care about your dee enn aye? No. They could always bully you for it, victimize themselves, or just make a fake account to mislead you. “Minors dee en aye” doesn’t work. People can always make accounts lying about being adults to follow you. Put a warning and properly mark your content as mature, but don’t just have no content markings and tell people not to see. That’s like hanging up adult stuff in public and telling people not to look. Either go to a specific website or block whoever you see. I know adults make many kids uncomfortable, even I find many of them uncomfortable, but I don’t let my guard down), but “adults dee en aye” is dangerous. Adults will pretend to be kids and take advantage of you. Some of them will just follow you or interact with you anyway, no matter how obvious you make it that you don’t want adults on your page. It happens all the time. They expect minors to not interact, but they keep being interactive with minors. It’s hypocrisy. Block any adult you see if they make you uncomfortable. Don’t announce it or else it’ll have the opposite effect.
why only mention 13 14 15 yer olds like what about 12 16 17 and younger i think everyone should stay safe...?? and also adults too
I was like hey you are right I shouldnt feel bad about my art its creating something no one else has... Only to realize I have just pushed that thought away myself. Also it's funny to see you talk about some things where I am like hey I said this to a friend of mine... WHILE NOT DOING TO MYSELF AAAAAAAAAAAA
Phew, this was a good video! I don't know if I list my personal issues on my art/social platforms, but now I really don't wanna. Thanks for the great tips! I am only speaking for myself.^^ -I use "DNI minors," because my art is pretty cute, but I do not want to interact in DMs with people below 18 (actually, it'd be better if they were mid-20's). I often become the older sister and have to listen to a lot of drama and then give advice. It just becomes a lot. I don't have kids, but that doesn't mean I want to parent the kids of the internet. -I do have a blacklist. It is private, and only shared among artist friends. It is a list of scammers. I also add "artists" that scam, so that if I have a returning client come and ask me, I can let them know the rep of the scammer. Honestly, a lot of us travel via word of mouth. That way we spread to friends of our friends, who are already vetted. -I use a google form, and gmail to communicate with clients now. That they have to speak to me through email limits them in how much they can overshare. And having all the refs on email rather than in discord also helps me keep track of what they wanted. -I give a default deadline of 1-2 weeks. If they don't list a deadline, I always strive to deliver within 1 week. No one has complained so far.^^ I work part time, and my friend borrows my pc to stream, so my time to draw is limited and I then get forced to be super focused, which works for me.^^ -I have a terms of service, and in the google form it asks the client if they read it (it's not long, and does not have complicated language). And the tos states that if I feel a commission is too hard for me, I am allowed to refuse it. It also says that if the client goes non-communication for a week, their money is refunded, minus what work I did do. -On my site, I've also started listing when a slot is starting (aka, when I start working on it), so all clients know when to expect their commission to be done. I also try to send wip or some form of communication each day. If a slot does not get claimed by Sunday, I will make up a commission and then use that week for a personal project. Rant: I have had clients show up in the middle of the week when they see "slot closed, personal project." They come in on Thursday, asking for a week long piece to be made, which would then impact and push the next week's slot further out, and then it would just ripple... So I just make up a commission for the weeks where I have no work, --In short! Yes, being an artist is hard! There's so many things to think about, especially if you are a working artist.
noo i put i have ADHD anxiety and memory loss on my desc 😢 should i remove
Your advice was common sense before social media. Important video.
*I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger.*
Bruh, only this type of art stly people feel danger in fucking internet.
are you having an aneurysm
these are some good advice and that art is awsome
16:48 me when gets up at 5: 30 am and and accidentally puts hand soap on my toothbrush and then sit there and stare in the mirror questioning how i got to this point...... Anyone... Just me...
Something in relation to the commission thing-art trades/owed art. Do NOT accept more art trades or offer more owed art than you know is physically possible for you to complete. I see a lot of young artists online fall into this cycle (myself included) where you accept so many trades or offer art for adoptables or something, (especially if you really don’t wanna do them) that it’s overwhelming and you end up burnt out and not wanting to draw at all, and then the other person gets irritated or displeased that you haven’t finished what you said you would. Becoming an artist online means 1. Being very good at saying no to things you don’t want to do and 2. Knowing the value of your work and not undermining yourself, ex. Accepting an art trade with a beginner artist because you ‘don’t wanna be mean’ and you end up disappointing them because you take a REALLY long time to finish your side, or accepting a lower amount of money for a commission just because you want the money. I hope this helps anyone reading this❤.
As a digital artist, i always accidentally put myself in danger when i forget to put down the hanging real kitchen knives on a thread decoration above my bed that i put there for haloween
Wait what? Are there artists who are at least 14 years old and who sell their works? I'm 18 and I don't know how to do that... how to do it?
the only reason id revoke a character is if they made nsfl of it ans said that old owner made it
I've got a few things that come to mind! mostly mistakes i made ages ago lmao. some of it is more general, some is less so 1: don't add completely random people to discord (or any other messaging platform). just. don't do it. i'd recommend for commissions, doing them via email is probably just preferable in general, since it doesn't give someone the feeling of unlimited access to you 24/7, and also isn't a social media that might implode in the next few months. 2: google your handle sometimes to make sure there aren't any accounts you don't really want linked to you popping up randomly (but try not to fall into a well of looking at what other people are saying). Especially if you're like, a kid, having different account usernames for non-art stuff can make it way less of a pain later (granted, this might not be too relevant since I'm guessing most people aren't in a million forums at age 14 posting painful to read rps and oversharing personal life stuff nowadays) 3: If you do get some inflammatory reply/message/ask/etc, blocking and moving on is the best thing to do. People sending that aren't going to change their mind from what you write, and are trying to get a rise out of you. your time's worth more than that lol 4: if you don't feel comfortable blocking, muting is also handy. 5: learn how to spot phishing, i've seen so many artists lose accounts due to phishing (especially on discord). but basically: always be a little suspicious of links you don't recognize, if you don't know where a link goes, try googling the link instead of just going to it. and if you get a message saying something is SUPER urgent, be suspicious. 6: In general, if you get weird messages, try googling the username or reverse image searching their avatar. With scammers, you can often find a million other accounts using the exact same image 7: Make sure you set up a business paypal, and that your settings are set to NOT show information like your address, name, etc. If you can, I would make invoices whenever people commission to try to avoid your birth name being out there 8: Try not to put other artists, even if you really admire them, on such a high pedestal that you miss any red flags. (Seeing them as other people, as your peers, makes things feel way less awkward too!) 9: Also try not to see other artists as competition! Being in art communities is a lot more fun if you can see others as peers with similar interests and stuff 10: look up internet safety stuff, but I'd also recommend learning about how phishing and scams work so you can keep your accounts and stuff safe
This really helped me a lot, thanks:)
Loved the video! People like to push boundaries so much online, it makes it seem normalized and I'm glad more people are pushing back on people who do it.
Lets be honest, people generally are really dumb. They do the dumbest stuff -_-
#5, learned that the hard way. It’s ok to do 5-10 commissions a month 😭, not 30+ I spent like my entire summer 2 years ago doing 50 animated icons. Sure I made a lot of money but honestly if I did that now I would not last through 5 of those.
LUNEY’S ART!!! Hehe
So real
If someone makes you uncomfortable, you are NOT obligated to speak with them. I cannot tell you how many times somebody’s tone or profile made me uncomfortable for little no reason and ended up being a correct reading on their character. It’s always good to give people chances but if you pick up on a certain lack of empathy or respect (or just something about them) you should be better at standing your ground before you get attached to these people. I’ve had this happen way too much when I was a little 13 year old kid.
@@FlightRiskWizard me too with the mouthwashing fandom (people who liked j1mmy were rude to those who were uncomfortable by seeing him, saying they were projecting on another character who was hurt by him, were "puritans" and more, like, telling someone who like a character to "kts" isn't good, but, assuming people who don't feel alright about him "whiny since i have trauma and like him" like some of them made it be... it's a massive lack of empathy and respect) Edit: I corrected a typo
For the dreamies/wishlist thing, what I do is I don’t even make it a wish list - I have a section in my character design inspiration board on Pinterest that’s just called *dies* where I save any designs I see that, if they were put for sale, I’d totally buy! But then instead of looking to actually try and buy it, I keep those designs in mind when designing my own characters to try and come up with something I like even more!
Hey Qwizz! Totally unrelated to the topic but in the SpeedPaint I noticed you were changing the overlay a lot and tried using a red overlay and as someone who also uses procreate I couldn’t help but think that you saw so,etching was off about the colors of the drawing. The drawing was super cute and the colors were wonderful! BUT having a mostly cold toned persona character myself I have learned the hard way that red clashes HORRIBLY with pink lmao. The red background at the end definitely helped though! Again not at all related but I kept watching the SpeedPaint thinking about that bright red shirt and it was driving me nuts LMAO No hate, loved the video! It was very insightful and I can say I definitely learned a thing or two about trading OCs!
I personally always thought instead of a DNI list, making it clear that your account is a safe space or something for whatever groups you support is much better and reads more positively? Idk I just have a better reaction to "my account is a safe place for lgbtq+ people" compared to "homophobes and transphobes DNI". It's still informing people of your morals and stance, but in a way that doesn't focus on the bigots as much.
OMG THE AGE PART HELL YEAH I AGREE THAT BECAUSE OMG I WISH I KNEW THAT WHEN I WAS ¥¥ im not going to make any friends on yt because of my user BUT HOLY HELL😭🙏PLEASE
Oh daymn you less popular than me WHY THE HECK?
3:55 OH YEAH ESPECIALLY NOT ON TWITTER!!
I wanna be real here, When I see "DNI/DNF" on someone's bio or AO3 tag, it's a red flag for me, it's indicator that person is probably immature(either literally underage or adult who has infantilism) at best or unsufferable and prone to harass at worst. SO they're not worth your time. It's useless monicker, because mostly no one cares about it, and it instead justs says the OP is obnoxious person to me. So I automatically never interact with ppl carrying the monicker on their digital collar, those are likely to bite you, so not worth my mental issues. Don't get me wrong, I loathe both Proshippering and Antishippering, both are unsufferable: pros' coping mechanism as unhealthy as smoking and alcoholism, and hypocrisy and harassment cases from antis. I agree on mental health part. I prefer to obscure it (or tell it to your trusted friends server If something provoked me to tell what happened) from general public, because it gives the trolls the free bullets to use it against you. I constantly see ppl listing Autism and adhd on their bio and I'm like: "Why are you doing this, when people will think you're faking it for attention" In a nutshell: I don't like people that unironically use "DNI/DNF", when you can silently block a user Proshipping and antishipper are both equally bad Don't share mental discorder (and physical conditions) online, don't show your weakspots.
