Another one I thought of is giving fursonas eyebrows, especially those cute round marking eyebrows. Technically most animals don't have visible eyebrows but it is a very human trait and helps the character to emote easier. My furry art style includes eyebrows if that says anything haha

@@link12clickmine too! My parents have one dog with super visible brown dots for eyebrows, and another one that definetely has the muscles for facial expression (she's all black, but she has whiskers instead of dots)

My fursona, a cat, has three of these-

And he was originally a moth/cat hybrid
Another thing with fursona designs is that (if your planning to make a suit) some designs are either really hard to put on a fursuit or « impossible » to do because they are either too complex or expensive or wouldn’t work with the earths gravity or somthing else (rip people with a primarily white fur suit who decide to eat chips in suit)
this video is honestly so accurate. I did an art raffle and kept running into characters similar to this; especially the hair tuft. In the end, its whoever made the characters choice on what they do with them! The winner of the raffle was a blue dog, and yet it was a great design! my point is, just because an aspect of a character is common, does not make said design bad. Great video Qwizz, loved it!!
fun fact of the day i think: I have a hard time letting go of old fursona designs because my is basically the oc that represents me and it feels so bad having to completely redesign it unlike other ocs idk why it just feels so wrong to do for me because of how much I’ve grown attached to the design and also because I see it as “my other version of me” so yeah which is strange because whenever I make an oc that isn’t a fursonas and get attached to the design I don’t mind completely redesigning it for some reason (I mean like recreating the character from scratch like changing the species entirely or/and also story or something like and basically turning it into a whole new person or something like that not just like small changes like clothes, patterns or hair color and stuff)
(You know what my current fursona design is just a normal housecat tbh I think I’ll turn her into a racoooncat now because why not I’ll just change the patterns)
I'm fascinated that my fursona has none of these traits. I guess part of it was because I initially drew it as a quadreped, and part of it is probably because usually when I draw animals I don't give them irises.
I guess I'm just fascinated by the furry community as a whole. Like, I draw anthro characters all the time, but I'd never think of giving them clothes or human hair (or fingers!); that's strange. But it doesn't look strange when others draw it. (maybe its cause i grew up in the woods; maybe i'm the strange one)

I'm not the best at designing OCs so I got someone else to make my fursona, Catmint, for me. At the time I was just looking for an account mascot, until I fell in love with her design and personality that I nominated her my fursona! Completely random but thanks for reading :3
I gave a scarf to my fursona to reflect their personality cuz they're kinda shy or socially anxious, idk, they're based on my personality so I thought the scarf would reflect that well. That's also one of the reasons I made them a bunny. I don't even like wearing scarfs yet I gave my fursona one.

i think the last reason is the biggest one, blue feels 'rare and exclusive' , like how blue candy is almost always the most sought after color, even though an actual 'blue' flavor technically doesnt exist. its just unique, it feels cool and special
My oc fits with some of these I'd say! As she is depicted as a orange cat as she was inspired by my orange tabby! But sometimes i want to draw her with horns or wings so bam shapeshifter cat! This video is awesome!!
6:27 Ack! I've been called out. I really I thought I'd get away without getting any of these. My current fursona started out as a wolf/snow leopard hybrid while my secondary fursona started out as a fox/Samoyed hybrid. Now they're both just generic-shaped dogs.
wolves and foxes! dogs and cats! animals with BIG fluffy tails, because we LOVE those! [thats the whole reason i like furry characters, big FLUFFY tails] dogs and cats cus they're common pets and most people have at least one! loved the video, i enjoyed listening to it while i drew furry art ^-^
When it comes to my sonas
Eyes
I like using a lighter color for the white part of the eye it just makes sense to me
Hair
Dyed hair and spilt (my truesona have spilt hair while my fursona has dyed hair)
Stripes
Whenever i design my ocs they have stripes mainly on there neck im not sure why i put two stripes on the neck but it makes it fun for me
I love creating stories and furry oc's,its just soo fun!

Traits that apply to my sona:
- Head fur tufts (I do this for every character lol)
- Hybrids! (My mascot is a unknown frankenstein creature & my main personal sona is a domestic cat + red squirrel)
- Hair to some extent? (The tufts are much bigger than most artstyles I see you I guess that counts?)
- Heterochromia! Specifically more than one colour in the same eye :3

My fursona is a blue bunny demon hybrid. It has horns, forked tongue, an extra eye on each hand, and the tail has a cute lil head on the end of it.
When I first thought of a fursona it was pretty unique but thanks to my abysmal art, I screwed it up really bad and now I just have a blue bat. He’s cute though, he has a long fluffy, stripy tail which I love.
Tbh I can't let go of my main, she's been with me for over 10 years and sure she has like a form for each fandom from cat to pony to dragon yet still can be a blue white dog (wolf) with a scarf and wings and ofc fluffy hair XD
I've tried switching her yellow hair from mlp version as the body color for a lion or dog but it just doesn't feel right SHE NEEDS TO BE BLUE- I'm not even a furry n I feel called out (jk jk)
On another note, interesting video idea 🤔 would love to see more like this
I would say, first of all, when designing a sona, make sure that the main thing you keep in mind is: does this look good? Is this nice to look at? If so, that’s great! For me at least, uniqueness comes second. It’s still important to me, but still is second to how good it looks.
Man, i try my best to come up with my own original design and make sure theyre simple enough for me. Simple yet an original design- its a way i roll.

blue furrys date back pretty far. for instance, I think in journey to the west, there is azure lion.

My character is a cat dragon too! Except, uh, she was originally a Serval cat in particular so slowly I drew her with longer rounded ears and now I don’t have the heart to remove it- the cat part is hard to tell lol
I dont consider myself a fury, but the hair tufts between the ears i do that. i think i know why. i drew pokemon alot when i was younger specifically eevee and it has the hair tufts.
Nah, the most common ones are those big ol' ears and those big-ass eyes. You can't tell me otherwise.
3:13 My armchair psychology reason for this is because blue is not a common color on mammals, but countershading, which is commonly used on fursonas and is popular among all real animals does occur in nature, usually people want their characters to have natural (or close to natural markings) which are recognizable characteristics of a specific species, but they want you to be able to tell it’s not just an anthro animal! It’s their character
Thus the color blue is chosen because it is not a common animal color, blue is actually really hard to make, in most birds it’s structural color, and occurs pretty much nowhere outside of internal organs (like the blue tongue of some animals or some veins appearing blue even though the blood inside is red.)
Crotch fluff is quite common too. I guess its to make the crotch less distinct? Or to enthasis it, idk.

It's totally a design thing. Most of the time I am guilty of fur tuft, but my fursona and a good handful of my other ocs just don't have it
What type of pen do you use to do the outline of the drawing? (I love the glitchy effect haha)
