Via Rail-The Iconic Canadian Train-Vancouver to Toronto
Embarking on the Via Rail Canadian train journey is like stepping into a timeless adventure. This iconic route spans over 4,000 kilometers, connecting Vancouver, British Columbia, to Toronto, Ontario, and offering travelers an unparalleled way to experience Canada’s vast beauty. The train features a range of amenities to make your journey comfortable and unforgettable. I stayed in a single sleeper cabin, part of the Sleeper Plus class, which provides cozy accommodations, access to exclusive lounges, and some of the most delicious meals I’ve ever enjoyed on a trip. The food is truly exquisite, prepared fresh onboard, and served with impeccable attention to detail by the amazing Via Rail staff, who go above and beyond to make every moment special.
The journey itself is as much about the scenery as it is about the train. From snow-covered peaks in the Rockies to sparkling rivers, dense forests, and endless prairie landscapes, every kilometer offers a new and breathtaking view. The train’s observation car is the perfect spot to soak it all in. While delays are possible-freight trains have priority on Canada’s railways-some of these are built into the schedule. It’s wise to plan some flexibility at either end of your trip to account for unexpected waits. At an approximate cost of $1,600 CAD (with a 40% discount) for my Sleeper Plus ticket, this journey is an investment in relaxation, adventure, and the ultimate Canadian travel experience. Whether you’re watching the world glide by, enjoying gourmet meals, or chatting with fellow travelers, the Via Rail Canadian is a trip I’d highly recommend.
The Via Rail Canadian journey travels through the traditional territories of many Indigenous Nations, including the Coast Salish, Secwépemc, Ktunaxa, Cree, Anishinaabe, Métis, Haudenosaunee, and many others whose lands we cross from Vancouver to Toronto. We acknowledge and honor the deep connection these Nations have to the land, waters, and skies that have sustained them for generations. This journey offers a profound opportunity to reflect on the beauty of these lands and the histories they hold. We travel with gratitude and respect for the caretakers of these territories, past and present.

Beautiful trip and countryside. Would love to go on such an adventure.
Diane, I am truly grateful for your kind words and support, thank you. This was a bucket list trip for me, I highly recommend the journey. It will be different when the train is new and modern. Best....Corrie
Enjoyed the demostration of the bed. That is a bucket list trip for me.
Ian, if it's a bucket list trip, you should consider it sooner, rather than later. I've heard Via Rail has put out a tender for modern electric trains and new cars. The beauty will be the same, the ride might be different. The porter will take care of the bed for you, but I want to know too. I took care of my own bed each day, it was easy. Ian, I am truly grateful for your always kind words, engagement and support, thank you. Best...Corrie
Thanks!

When I drove heavy truck Long Lac was one of my sleep stops. Nothing there but a beautiful part of this country. You must learn to tolerate black flys
Allan, I love to travel, and this train trip has become my new favourite way to travel. Someone else does the driving, someone else does the cooking and the scenery is like a beautiful movie that doesn't stop. Our vast country is absolutely stunning, I know you can attest to that driving heavy truck. I've heard black flys are terrible! Thanks Allan, I am truly grateful for your always kind words, fun engagement and support. Best....Corrie
@@leftcoastcorrieCanada is a beautiful country but as one of your politicians said back in the 30s it will be even better when they finish unpacking it.
Yes, we used to camp around there when I was a kid.
Ian, you make me smile. I think we're still unpacking...lol. Best...Corrie
Lisanne, it must have been quite different from winter to summer. I have only seen this part of the country in the winter. Thanks for stopping by, I am truly grateful for your kind words, engagement and support. Best...Corrie
Although no radial engine and it does not fly this is one of your best videos yet. PS those are some awesome curls. 😄
Allan, I am humbled by your kind words and support, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I put my heart and soul into putting this video together. It took many hours to finally be happy with the finished version. I wanted the video to be shorter, but it's hard to trim 4500K and 5 provinces across Canada into less than an hour. It could have easily been 4 hours with the footage west to east, then east to west. That's funny you mention my curls. I used to straighten my hair everyday and finally gave up. My hair would be perfectly straight when I left home, ad some west coast humidity and my hair reverts to its natural curls, as if I did nothing at all. Now I just let it do what it naturally wants to do. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy healthy new year. Best....Corrie
@@leftcoastcorrieAlways be natural, we're much better that way.
Ian, trust me, natural is much less complicated. Curly hair it is....lol Best...Corrie

What a magical trip Corrie!..Curious is the $1600 return? Can't wait for the return journey.😊
Without a doubt, a magical trip. The $1600 was one way. Even at a discount it is still on the pricey side, in my opinion, worth every $. I was quite surprised how different the scenery was just a week later, there was much less snow. Thanks BB, always grateful for your kind words and support. Best...Corrie
Hi, Corrie! Congrats on making such a great trip. I'll be waving as you go through Saskatchewan!!
Hi Gavin, it was a beautiful journey through Saskatchewan, please wave. Winter is a great time for train travel, the snow, the frozen lakes, the vast farmland, the sunsets are unbelievable. Winter has far less travellers as well. I will start working on the journey from Toronto back to Vancouver, it was pretty awesome to see the opposite direction. So you've shown us the seaplanes coming home in the evening and going out to start their day. You are doing a wonderful job with your videos. I have noticed frequent reports of Point Atkinson and False Creek from inbound aircraft. I think they are VRPs (visual reporting points). Does the Gulf Island Beaver overnight at Vancouver as it seems to be there a lot?
Ian, I'm pretty sure you are correct that Point Atkinson and False Creek are VPR's. I am truly grateful for your always kind words, knowledgeable engagement, mentorship and support, thank you. Best...Corrie
@leftcoastcorrie As always my pleasure. This is definitely my favourite TH-cam channel. The number of movements last year is testament to how valuable seaplanes are in that area. Considering the size of their fleet and the fact that most of those movements were Harbour Air makes you realise just how busy they are as an airline.
Ian, I am humbled by your words and am ever so grateful you've been on the journey since it began. What a journey it has been! We are fortunate Harbour Air provides us with many happy hours of entertainment. Harbour Air is one of my favourite local business', and happy to support them any way I can. Best....Corrie

This is a fantastic video. The close ups of landings and take-offs is one of your best. I find your narratives of the aircraft very interesting. I am retired now and having flown the turbo Otter on floats it is a real rush. It is flying at its best.

have you seen new electric beaver at harbor air? they say 30 minutes with 30 minutes reserve and 23-30 charging time. still needs certification but first first 10 minute flight went well. I am sure lack of radial power will dive you nightmares and contemplate a new career The best to you miss
Allan, I have seen a Harbour Air e-Beaver. I actually got to get up close when it was in Victoria some time ago. I posted a short video on it. There are a lot of places you can get in 30 minutes and there's a lot of places you can't get in 30 minutes. I'm of mixed opinion on the e-Beaver. I love a radial engine and always will, and it goes a lot further on a full tank than 30 minutes. I guess my opinion is, time will tell. Thanks Allan, I am truly grateful for your always kind words, engagement and support. Best...Corrie
In my opinion it will never catch on.

I love the fact that the Victoria-Seattle ferries fly the Canadian flag from the jack staff but have a stylised Union Jack on the superstructure. That has been practice with them since at least 2002.
Ian, you noticed this video was a little different, I appreciate you noticed. I was up at 6, put myself together, and out of the house at 7:15. It's a half hour walk(3K) to my first spot, I almost missed the first Twin taking off, I had to sprint my little chicken legs to make it as far as I did. My intention was my second spot, but it was 4 minutes away and I knew I'd never make it. The big boats are in the way a lot of the time. Ian, you notice the tiniest details. I've never noticed the water rudders being lowered either. I had to go back and watch in slow motion. Thanks for pointing out the cool details I miss. Did I ever tell you that you are my favourite anorak? I am sincerely grateful for your always kind words, knowledgable engagement and support, thank you. Best....Corrie
@@leftcoastcorriehard not to notice really given the intensity of the lights and how dark the video begins. So there is a reason for me being an anorak then, it's so that I can spot things that others miss..😂
Ian, thanks for my Saturday smile. Best...Corrie

Awesome as usual Corrie. Little chicken legs eh! Haha.
John, I am truly grateful for your always kind words and support, thank you. Yup, I have chicken legs....lol. My little chicken legs take me far and fast. Best...Corrie
1 long and 2 short horn blast is a bridge salute
Allan, you make me smile, thank you. 1 long blast and 2 short is a A bridge salute, makes sense to me. Best...Corrie
@@leftcoastcorrie 3 long blast and 3 short is a master bridge salute
Allan, I know little about horn blasts, thanks for sharing. Best....Corrie
That's education for me too. I know nothing about maritime procedures.
crazy but some paint schemes like Kenmore to me make the plane look older then planes with bright colours of same vintage!!!
Allan, I hadn't given it much thought, but yes, it is crazy how some paint schemes can change how a plane looks. The Kenmore Air Orca Otter looks really long because its mostly black. Best....Corrie
@@leftcoastcorriein my opinion (not that it counts for much) the Kenmore livery is tastefully understated.
Ian, everyone's opinion counts. I agree with you, I love the creativity of Kenmore Air's livery. When I know a Kenmore Air seaplane will be coming soon, I think to myself.....Hmmm I wonder if this seaplane will be the non-standard livery? Kenmore Air has some very unique, west coast designs. Hi Corrie, hope you having fun .thank you for the great videos.we had a plane tonight land with a hydraulic leak.😮❤❤
Hi Shaun, I'm always having fun 😀! That doesn't sound good when a plane has a hydraulic leak, I hope it ended well. Thanks for your always kind words, engagement and support, I am truly grateful. Best...Corrie
Well done miss. have a good weekend and tie everything as wind warnings out for you. Do not want our favorite airplane connoisseur blown away
Thanks Allan, I appreciate the wind warning, I''l be sure to have my feet solidly on the ground. I am truly grateful for your always kind words, fun engagement and support, thank you. I hope you have an amazing weekend! Best...Corrie
That looked like a pleasant evening to be at the dockside watching seaplanes.
Ian, it was a pleasant evening in Vancouver and I call this time of day "the homecoming". To me, the homecoming is when all the seaplanes have to get home before curfew, aka darkness. Early morning and early evening is my favourite time of the day to record, it's guaranteed action! Ian, I am truly grateful for your always kind words, engagement and support, thank you. Best....Corrie
@leftcoastcorrie Early morning and early evening gives much more gentle lighting conditions which adds to the beauty. The shot of the cranes as the helo departed made them look beautiful in an ugly industrial kind of way.
Ian, you said it perfectly, the lighting is much better early morning, early evening. I could hang out all day and watch the container port in action, however, I'm sure it wouldn't be much interest to most that visit the lounge. Best....Corrie
@@leftcoastcorrieI think you are right about that. I'm glad you don't spend the day watching the container port as you'd miss all the lovely seaplanes
WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! Sure wished Prince George would have parades like We used to have up here. This was just AMAZING!
Hey Ken, It's great to hear from you! Without a doubt this is one of my favourite parades of the year. Sincere thanks for your kind words and support, I am truly grateful. Best....Corrie
Crows are probably waiting for the hull to be exposed there was a a lot of sea life attached to the hull
I can well imagine there would have been some tasty morsels exposed when the barge was hauled out of the water. The crows were very curious about this massive piece of equipment. Thanks for stopping by, I am truly grateful for your engagement and support, thank you. Best...Corrie
