Well done. Idea and all. I’m a boat captain Ouldnt make it as a punker.
Wow, so you got 2 solar panels mounted on the foam boards. I suppose the fiber glass is adding a ton of strength there. How was it held up over the years? I've been looking for someone crazy enough to do this, so I can feel less crazy doing it myself. Thanks man!
This is not crazy at all. The same techniques are used to build airplanes and off shore boats. Theres a whole lot less room for error at 10k feet! The solar panels have no effect on roof. In fact the roof is strong enough to jump around on without issue.
@ThatJakeWorldWide That's awesome. I really hope I can try this out one day
I wish I had a bigger workspace. I'm building one of these in my storage unit. I don't have a garage in my current cabin house in the boonies.
It's all about perspective. Some guy out there is saying "Man, I wish I had a storage unit to work in"
Jake, what material did you use for the runners at the bottom of the camper? Looking great bud
They are just plywood 1x2's. They work just fine, but im gearing up to start working on the camper again, and that will be done differently this go around.
Where are you located, how much to build me one?
I'm in Texas.Thatjakeworldwide@gmail.com
Extremely unhealthy food and ass-burning poop
I just watched your camper build video. 😊
What exhaust kit did you use?
I think that tubing came from Jegs or Summit racing. Theres not a kit for these trucks to my knowledge.
Easy video: Give us a short straight tot he point tour of the camper. Thumbnail is literally just your camper and the truck.
Great idea. Probably a good reintroduction to the project/channel.
Where did you get your intake?
I don't recall, Every 20r/22r is better with a Weber carburetor.
Look at all that hair!
Dale yeah!
Wear a mask, dude. I am so very sorry I didn't when sanding.
Did you, or are you planing on beefing up the rear suspension?
I never did, and never had an issue. 1979, when trucks were built to be trucks!
I have two tool rolls with ever tool I need to do most repairs. The help so much in staying organized and efficient.
Cheetah on cocaine! 😂😂😂. I’m gonna have to use that. Another great video. Thx!
2:49 that cylinder is definitely not round. What happened to it? Great video. I’ve had seven different toyota pickups over the years. Couple of 20s, couple of 22r and 22re. Currently have a 97 Tacoma with the 3RZ fe. Has 272k on it. Found your channel because I’ve been looking in to building a foamy. I dig your foamy, dog, cat, truck and you! Fun and entertaining videos, man. I’m looking forward to your adventures! Liked and subbed.
Chris, we could definitely be friends!
Do you think fiber glass was necessary inside? Could you have done automotive interior carpet glued to the walls inside? What would be the downside to this approach if I were to do it? On the ceiling and walls. I understand the need to have the surfaces you'll sit on, etc. have the additional strength of fiber glass over the foam.
For my use the fiberglass on the interior is 100% necessary. The strength of the wall assembly depends on it.
i love the me myself and irene skitzo freakout music playing 🤣
I'm finally getting around to watching the rest of Jake's camper build videos, and I'm really impressed with the construction techniques and ideas he's using. The only slightly dubious build decision so far is the combination of "Small internal space", "Constructed from sheets of insulation", and "8KW DIESEL HEATER !!!". What I'm seeing is essentially the specifications for an oven. I know a guy who uses one of these 8kw units to heat his double garage home workshop. It's not particularly well insulated, but even so, he told me even in the colder months the heater is still only running for a couple of 10 to 15 minutes blasts out of every hour. In such a small space as this camper body, that heater could be starting and stopping almost constantly (or dry roasting you), and the start ups can be pretty smoky until they get warm. They kind of rely on getting up to temperature for a bit to burn off all the oily soot that starting up causes. I read somewhere that you can get into a hidden configuration menu on most of these to tweak them and get higher outputs, so maybe it's also possible to dial them back for less aggressive heating and better economy too? It'll be interested to see if this turns into a problem in later the videos when you start camping in it.
What's the white stuff? Looks like plaster
Thickened epoxy
What type of epoxy did you use? Also what type of filler was used?
I use 635 thin from us composites
Very cool idea! I had never thought of using that kind of material! I'm wanting to build a pop up roof on my 2003 Ford Excursion. Any advice would be greatly appricated?
Send it! Don't let your dreams be dreams.
Enjoying being a fly on the shop wall. What weather stripping product did you use on the door seal?
Thats a single bulb seal. Lots of options for different flange thickness etc out there. Still need to actually finish that seal!
I just want to know how does good dose it hold up if u drill anythingto it like a cabinet
All mounting locations are reinforced with a hardpoint. I've covered these several times in the videos.
Great video, great build! Also, kudos on being literally the only TH-camr in the world with decent music :) Can I ask, why 3 layers of cloth? Wouldn't one (like a 7.5oz) be sufficient? **edit** I saw from another comment you used the extra layers for durability - cool! As an alternate (maybe you did this and I didn't notice), how about putting down one (or two) layers of cloth and then wetting out a couple more times? For boat building, they tend to wet out the cloth once to affix it, and then two more to fill the weave entirely, sanding back down any excess when they're done. That much epoxy I feel like should be pretty durable! (resin is about half the strength of the fiberglass:resin composite)
I'm ready for a new build series
What is "peel ply" ?
It's a finishing layer that post cure gets peeled off of the layup to reveal a matte surface ready for bonding.
Wow that a factory look! Amazing prep & paint work my friend A+
This guy sounds like ray ramone Very nice work
How do you attach to truck?
Currently its via turnbuckles like any other slide in camper. Changes coming to that soon.
Did it hurt mpg? Can You still run 80miles?
Never could get this truck up to 80mph lol
Do you think you could've gotten away with wood glue and canvas for the interior? It's much easier to apply since the wood glue is tackier
Foam core composites rely on the foam sandwiched between the fiberglass for strength.
Loving it!
Love your build
come on jake you can do 4k
So, you doing anything these days?
What grit sand paper you like?
I use 80 grit for pretty much all the foam shaping and bonding prep.
Awesome work
Thank you!
Great design and craftsmanship. Awesome to see someone building a foamie and doing radii everywhere.
Glad you like it!
Amazing paint work. I'm going to re-watch this video a few more time before I paint my skoolie.
Where are you? Miss yiur great videos, cooler? Cheers
Im not dead yet! On the tail end of a big project for my real job. Hoping to dive back in to the videos soon!
@@ThatJakeWorldWide good to know your still kicking👍
Way to.much hardner
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.
Why do you care for pinholes?
Pinholes are an undesirable surface condition, and will show through the final paintwork.
Sick build series dude! Got a question for ya, what glass are you using and do you need to prep/sand the xps before glassing. I started my build with 1x1 framing, 5mm plywood veneer xps core glassed over with 1708 and the weight is starting to add up. I’m thinking of sticking to pure foam and glass for the walls roof.
Thanks! I give the xps a quick sand with 80 grit prior to glassing. I used several different weave types throughout the construction. Mostly whatever open weave 6-8 oz cloth that was on sale or cheap through thayercraft.
@@ThatJakeWorldWide awesome! Thanks for getting back to me
