    Roger Rees was also the narrator of the movie. This is the only adaptation of A Christmas Carol in which Scrooge's father appears. I love the part where Fred tells Scrooge, "Merry Christmas" and Scrooge looks up at him like "Oh, are you talking to me?" And when Scrooge tries to talk to the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and the Spirit doesn't answer, and Scrooge says, "You're devilishly hard to have a conversation with" or something like that. Frank Finlay is my favorite Marley.

    In the book, Zero got to Camp Green Lake at least six weeks before Stanley did. Zero tells Stanley he was the one that stole the sneakers and that he was arrested the next day for stealing a new pair of sneakers. This was such a great review! Thank you for talking about this book and film. I had no idea it was a book. I watched the film in theaters when it came out and I couldn't sleep that night. It really hit me. I was able to put together that Scarlett's character was capturing people to be eaten but it took me a few days after watching the film and reflecting on it that I was able to put some pieces together. I don't think it was made that clear in the film. (I also recently learned that Stranger Things took inspiration from this movie for their black pool scenes, which is very cool). Your summary of the book gave so much more context. Thank you for that, the book sounds really interesting. The book is too heavy for me to read at this point in my life, and I appreciate the fact that I can watch your review of it. P.S. your kitten is adorable. 🧡

    Stanley and Zero break the curse on the Yelnats family. Stanley was the great grandson of Elya Yelnats and Hector Zeroni (Zero) was the great- great grandson of Madame Zeroni, so when Stanley carried Zero up the mountain and sang to him, that broke the curse.. The curse that started when Sam died was a different curse. God was punishing the town for the murder of Sam.

    I think it's amazing Jason A was in World B for like TWO DAYS, and instantly made Daniela B fall in love with him all over again. MEANWHILE, slowly Jason B is screwing up his SECOND ATTEMPT at holding onto Daniela with Daniela A as he bails on Max's birthday tree time, and his disregard for communication like for example when he says "Relationships are a negotiation and whoever talks first loses." It's so funny when Destiny unravels life for you without you even grasping what's happening. Jason B doesn't realize his state of mind is why he can never TRULY have his love with Daniela whether it's Daniela A or B. In regards to Jason B & Jason A's awareness of their Theories being real or realized, it's obvious Jason A would have trouble grasping the concept because THINK about it; HOW LONG did it actually take JASON B to figure out the elements of the BOX followed by CREATING the Box. IT likely took YEARS at least, meanwhile Jason A is taking a crash course with REAL LIFE experiences inside the box, Jason B had the chance to experiment with OTHERS first, then he went in himself. Jason A I would think is the SHARPER one because he's learning the workings of the Multiverse in LESS time while experiencing it FIRST HAND, i'd say his knowledge and understanding is on a deeper level then Jason B.

    • @WhytheBookWins
      @WhytheBookWins วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah the show is so interesting how Jason 2/Jason B is loosing Daniela anyway because he doesn't know how to be happy with the "simple" life. Even though I have my complaints with the length of the show, I am loving seeing what is happening with Jason 2 because that wasn't something we got in the book.

    Let's be honest.. 500 pages for example, turned into 9 Hour TV shows.. isn't a horrible ratio.. I mean if you can read a book in 9 hours then 9 hours adapted is a decent trade.. 90-120 minutes VS 9 Hours is a very BIG gap, and that could lead to information being MISSED. I don't know about you, but i'd rather details be explained in extended detail rather then details being MISSED due to not enough time being put into the adaptations run time.

    • @WhytheBookWins
      @WhytheBookWins วันที่ผ่านมา

      A 500 page book makes more sense to be a show, but even then I'm sure a filmmaker could find a way to translate it into a 2-2.5 hour movie. That's part of the beauty of the adaptation process, needing to find a way to convey the book into a different medium where you do more showing not telling and can't have every single detail. And if movie watcher's a curious about some extra detail, they can read the book after 😏

    The imagery of decorating the Christmas tree was beautifully directed. You see Adam on his knees looking up at his parents with the expression of a wide eyed child, filled with joy and wonderment at the magic of Christmas. Looking up to his parents in anticipation of putting the Angel on top of the tree… and then there’s a close up of his mother singing [paraphrasing] 🎶”Maybe I didn’t love you🎶, quite as often as I should have. 🎶Maybe I didn’t hold you🎶all those cold and lonely nights🎶” Those lyrics are haunting. The thoughts of a dead mother who realizes she didn’t do her best at getting to know her child. She feels the devastating regret that she knows she will never be able to repair. To me, one of the most devastating scenes is after Adam finds Harry’s body and then Harry discovers he is dead. He had to ask, “I’m in there, aren’t I?” He didn’t want Adam to see him as he was when he died. “WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY FIND ME?!” This my heart implode. Harry tells him, “you are not in there. You are IN HERE (my heart.) With me.” Then he tells Harry, let go up to my apartment. To me, this is a metaphor of “let’s go up to his version of Heaven.” They are in Adam’s bed and Harry relaxed his body into the same position that his body was in when he physically died, and released his last breath. Then Harry comfortably releases his soul into the universe. This is where conjecture comes in… Is Adam dead, too? It is possible that Adam died the night that he took ketamine (and maybe too much) at the bar with Harry. That was a BIG trip he went on and we know that drug is deadly, especially in too large of a quantity, mixed with alcohol. It’s a horse tranquilizer… so… ???? They are both swept up into the universe as a binary system. Always together. But then, what do I know?! 😊

    So a few things I did not like about this video is when you constantly call a monkey an ape and an ape a monkey, they are not the same, simple differentiator factors are monkeys are small and have tails while apes are big and do not have tails. It would be like saying that a tiger and a caracal are related just because they're superfamily mostly known as cats. Yes humans are apes and apes and monkeys are in the Hominoidea superfamily but monkeys and apes are different in family, subfamily, tribe and genus. The similarities end at superfamily but everything else is different same to a caracal and a tiger.

    I have read all 4 books in the Practical Magic saga. I agree, the 1st book (I mean 1st published, not the order of events) could have been soooo much more. Not a bad book, but SO different from the movie and other books. My least favorite. On the other side, the movie is a master piece. I have the feeling that the author saw how the public received the movie and changed her way of telling the story. Even the way she writes after that is completely different, almost like another person. The other 3 books are way better, I think you'll like them. The precuel is good. It is more historical fiction and has witchcraft. Then comes the book about the lives of the aunts, the Rules of Magic. This one is by far my favorite. It broke me. It is so heartwarming and yet so sad. Grab the tissues! Then, the last book, which would come after the movie... It felt a little rushed. It is more on the adventure side. But it was fun.

    I grew up with the 1949 version and LOVE it!

    The sheriff knitting is funny but not necessarily random. Mort is in and out of consciousness. Like the in and out of the needle point of a sewn piece the sheriff is also in and out of being competent.

    I could say a lot, but really the most important thing I can add is you twice refer to Peter Lawford as Peter Lorre (Laurie) and understandable slip of the tongue. But now I can't unsee Peter Lorre in the role of Laurie. What a far different and unusual movie that would be.

      Oh wow I didn't even catch that myself lol but Peter Lorre as Laurie is a hilarious image 😂

    And there even is an animation series based on the book. Just needed to leave this here for nostalgia reasons. I watched this as a child but I can’t remember if it was good.

      Oooh, I should look this up. There are also so many foreign adaptations of this that would be cool to watch too.

      @@WhytheBookWins You can actually watch it on TH-cam. It looks like Studio Ghibli animation but obviously the tone is very different.

    Laura I had that exact opinion about young Amy in the 2019 version...she just didn't look young enough and the acting came across as forced because of it. What a great job you did with this! I don't know how you keep it all straight!!! Loved it. It's difficult for me to choose between the two movies. There are elements to both which I love - but the film score in the 94 version is just so beautiful and immersive. I feel transported a little more in '94 than in 2019. Also that opening scene just gets me, and the transition with Jo on the stairs from Part 1 to Part 2. I just love movie music. I almost always predict Oscar winners based on score actually! That is so cool that you are related! Well done with this! Brava!!!

      Yeah she's a great actress but she seems best in the serious roles so young Amy wasn't a great fit. The '94 one is so good so I totally get people who prefer that one. And that's a cool way to predict the Oscars! Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you liked my Little Women coverage 😃

    Why is the 94 version so iconic?!
