    It’s the 1994 film for me, didn’t care about the non-linear structure of the 2019 film. I felt more emotionally attached watching the girls together and their relationships in the first half and seeing it contrast in the second half when they go their separate ways. Also I love cast the most, Winona Ryder and Kirsten Dunst were perfect but also the incredibly underrated Trini Alvarado as Meg.

    Its the 1994 movie for me. I love it so much! Honestly a lot of it being my favorite is probably from nostalgia glasses ❤

    Laura I had that exact opinion about young Amy in the 2019 version...she just didn't look young enough and the acting came across as forced because of it. What a great job you did with this! I don't know how you keep it all straight!!! Loved it. It's difficult for me to choose between the two movies. There are elements to both which I love - but the film score in the 94 version is just so beautiful and immersive. I feel transported a little more in '94 than in 2019. Also that opening scene just gets me, and the transition with Jo on the stairs from Part 1 to Part 2. I just love movie music. I almost always predict Oscar winners based on score actually! That is so cool that you are related! Well done with this! Brava!!!

      Yeah she's a great actress but she seems best in the serious roles so young Amy wasn't a great fit.
      The '94 one is so good so I totally get people who prefer that one. And that's a cool way to predict the Oscars!
      Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you liked my Little Women coverage 😃

    Having that relationship to Louisa May Alcott, even though distant, I think is pretty cool, too. Others have said this , it was Peter Lawford not Peter Lorre, who played Laurie in the ‘49 version.

    I could say a lot, but really the most important thing I can add is you twice refer to Peter Lawford as Peter Lorre (Laurie) and understandable slip of the tongue. But now I can't unsee Peter Lorre in the role of Laurie. What a far different and unusual movie that would be.

      Oh wow I didn't even catch that myself lol but Peter Lorre as Laurie is a hilarious image 😂

    I haven't watched the 2019 version because I really enjoyed the 1994 version. I remember going to see that one in the theater with family when it came out that Christmas. Now I really want to see the 2019 movie, maybe after rereading that beautiful book.

    14:25 Pretty sure in the sequel "Little Men" Bhear does mention how he likes the stories Jo tells the boys and how she should try to get them published. I'd have to reread Little women (both parts) and Little Men but Im pretty sure its mentioned.

    • @WhytheBookWins
      @WhytheBookWins  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh good to know! Thanks for sharing because that context helps explain why so many movies have him being the reason she gets published.

      @@WhytheBookWins yeah if memory serves she does get a couple published but decided to stop because it would've meant spending signifcant time away from "the boys" and her husband. In Little men Jo is running a sort of boys Orphange (although her nieces do live there as well at times) for poor boy orphans who either are down on their luck or have no where to go and the main boy Nate is an street musician orphan who's sent there by Laurie after his father died.

    I'm assuming the 1994 movie having certain scenes not in the previous movies also influenced them being in the 2019 adaptation, even if it was more subconscious. I think the 1994 is so beloved and certain scenes like the burning of Jo's manuscript, of the Pickwick club, etc. would be so odd not to include in a newer adaptation, especially as they establish the characters so well.
    The 1994 adaptation is my favorite. (Winona and Kirsten are a couple of my favorite actresses!) I casually like all of them but for me the 1994 is superior and I do like the 2019 adaptation. I do have my issues with it. For example, while I think the back and forth timeline is interesting and allows for parallels to be shown, I think it undercuts some of the character depth and development. Also, I actually think certain lines are a little too on the nose. I know people love Amy's monologue to Laurie but it takes me out of the movie and feels like a moment of explanation for the audience. BUT I do love the look and feel of the film, most of the performances, and I just love the Little Women story overall so it's hard to hate the film despite changes and differences that bother me. oh, and I hate some of the costuming! Jacqueline Durran, I love you, but no.... no.

    • @WhytheBookWins
      @WhytheBookWins  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Very true about the '94 movie paving the way for the '19 movie with some of the scenes they include! And I agree, I love Winona and Kirsten and will always be down to watch basically anything they are in!
      I would be curious which outfits you didn't like in the '19 film! I thought the costuming was amazing in that movie!

    I would probably recommend recommending both versions 1994 and the 2019 , it would be nice to get a newer adaptation of Little Men and Jo’s Boys, I don’t think 🤔 Jo’s boys got a movie adaptation, I think the 1940 Little Men movie plot is based on Jo’s boys novel plot

I had the pleasure of stepping in to play Beth for 1 night of a local production and it was such a fantastic experience. Jo is a dream role 🙌
