I’ll be reading Wives and Daughters in April! I’ve been reassured that though Gaskell died before the book was done, she was really just a few pages away from being done so it’s not too bad.
My mom loved Victoria Holt when I was a kid. I have a few now to try.
Thanks for the tag! Loved playing Civ!
@@RaspberryReads I heard a new Civ is coming out!
Thank you for the tag!! I really love these questions.
@@Maeve_Ever_Books Looking forward to your answers if you do this one! I really liked the questions too.
Great responses and thanks for your thoughtful consideration of the prompts.
@@RobertGReaderofBooks-r3p Thanks for watching! The questions were great!
Thanks for your video ! I really loved Fanny Price from Mansfield Park, I admired how rational, contained, still sensitive she was. On the other hand I have read two books from Elizabeth Gaskell and haven't loved them, they were OK for me (Cranford and North & South). So... this opens a real nice opportunity, all opposite and thanks to your video I already downloaded (for free) the Audible version on Wives & Daughters and wish to start it and to enjoy it a lot. Good luck with your channel. Saludos from Mexico City.
@@MarlaenIngles Oh I hope you love it! Molly reminds me of Fanny but there are definitely differences. Y saludos de los Estados Unidos 😊
I always love hearing you talk about the importance of books and reading for you growing up. I think it’s such a needed reminder for us all. And it’s not cheesy. I don’t know what success means to you, but from where I’m watching, you seem to have a stable life, a loving family, snoring pets, and more books than you could get through, and time to spend on your hobbies and passions. That’s what I would call success, and a great achievement for anyone starting out with less. And I’m always more inspired to support my local library, so that others can have access to it too, after hearing stories like yours.
@@ellenmadebookclub Ellen, you almost made me cry over here haha. Thank you so much for the kind words. 🥹 Libraries are such comforting places. I am making a point to visit the different branches in my area and just picked up a couple books from one.
@ Love that! I feel like it’s one of few places where curiosity is still encouraged. No prestige, they just want to help you find a book 💜
❤📚❤️ It sounds like books were a very beneficial thing in your life. I'm glad they were there for you and that you enjoyed them. I love reading most too, but I create junk journals, and I get so involved in the creative process that I'm totally absorbed and so relaxed. Great video.
@@starlasell5698 Thank you. Junk journaling is such a cool hobby! I have always wanted to do something like that and I have watched many a video on junk journal flip throughs! Do you write in them too or do you just add pretty things?
@MyMessyBookshelf I love them! I write in most of mine. I have my quotes journal, my calendar/planner journal, my daily journal, a Bible journal, and even my book review journal. You should try it sometime. I've been making them for over seven years.
It’s not cheesy at all, Nicky. I really appreciate hearing about your background and the ways in which your love of reading helped you to get an education and change your circumstances. Thanks for such a thoughtful video!
I agree. I got teary-eyed. ❤📚
@@BookChatWithPat8668 Thank you so much, Pat… that means a lot.
@@starlasell5698 Thank you so much!
Great video! I read Pachinko and loved the first 2/3 of the book. However, I felt the author rushed the last part and she could have done a better job with the ending. Let us know your thoughts when you read it.
@@imeldaherrera5669 I’ve heard such good things about this book so I am definitely looking forward to it and hopefully I like the ending! I will definitely share!
Shogun is on my lost as well to get to this year!
@@Already-Overbooked Hopefully we both get around to it!
@MyMessyBookshelf I sure hope so! I have heard great things!!
Age of innocence was a pleasant surprise to me when I read it last year, I hope you will like it. I'm also hoping to read Hardy this year. I have a video eith 25 books for 2025 coming in a couple of weeks.
@Bryndisdaugtherofgunnar Oh that is so good to know because I think I typically like a lot of similar books as you! Looking forward to your video!
❤🎉 Age of Innocence!!🎉🎉 i love it!
@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD Great to know! I’ve enjoyed her other stuff so we’ll see! 😊
A more realistic number, love it! Good luck in 2025 getting these read. I liked Pachinko, but it's another one I listened to on audio, and I am positive I would have loved it even more with the physical book. I read The Great Gatsby in my twenties and loved it. It's been so long. I'm not sure how I'd feel now. 😂
@@starlasell5698 I am definitely looking forward to Pachinko because I’ve heard such good things. As for your twenties (and mine)… I’ll bet we are both better and wiser nowadays 😉 but I’m glad to hear you enjoyed The Great Gatsby because I’m honestly not sure why I’ve never read it and I want to get to it!
@MyMessyBookshelf Of course we are! 😁
My Moby Dick seems to be Ours 😂 which makes no sense to me, but I still have hope! I’m confident you can get through Moby Dick if you set your mind to it. Maybe to that one first (/ next) and give yourself a time limit of say a month, and if you’re not through or not enjoying it by then, skip to the next one, but then maybe you’ll have some motivation to get it done. I might read Gatsby this year too, we’ll see. And Pachinko was a book club read last year! I think you’d like it. It has a lot of day to day, but spans decades and follows different members of a family, and their relationships and fates, in Korea and Japan. And when you’re done you can join in on the discussion video for it 😊 Good luck with all of these! I think 10 is very sensible! 😊
@@ellenmadebookclub I’m glad I’m not alone hahaha but yes I am really hoping to get to it so I will most likely do exactly what you suggest because sometimes I hang on to these books and suffer 😂 Looking forward to getting to Pachinko, I remember really wanting to get to it when you were reading it last year.
@@MyMessyBookshelf I know the feeling! Better to just get to them, and I'm sure you'll enjoy most of them, or at least find out that you don't and not have to have them hanging over you anymore 😊
I have read three of these books. I have tried and tried to get through Moby Dick - I am fine after the first chapter, and there is much to enjoy in this novel, but about mid way through it becomes dull as dirt and is a hard stop for me. Thank you for the video.
@@JosephFrancisBurton Thank you so much for watching. I am hoping to get over the hump this time around and get to it. There must be a reason so many people enjoy this book right?
The Wizard’s Giide to Defensive Baking was my first Kingfisher and it made me a fan. I’ve owned Wives and Daughters and Sophie’s World and left them unread for longer than I’d like to admit 😂 Maybe 2025 is the year. You have some great books!
@@christine_reads Oh I am so happy to hear you enjoyed it! Maybe 2025 could be the year for one of those titles if you don’t want to read both? 😂 I am the same way with keeping some books on my shelf for AGES.
@ 2025 goal read *one* of these! Glad to know there are many of us in the buy now read (much, much 🙈) later camp! Oops 😂
Wives and daughters is on my top 10 books of 2024, I loved it so much 😊 So many interesting books in that haul.
I knew we had similar reading tastes!
How lovely to be so sucked into a book! The best feeling! 😊 I hope it holds up, even the ending might be a bit open. Great plans!
It is such a wonderful feeling and I think I am going to be satisfied 😊
I'll be reading Wives and Daughters this year sometime. I'm so glad you love it!!!🎉🎉🎉
Yayyy I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!
Wives and Daughters sounds intriguing! I hope you enjoy the whole book. I anxiously await your review, as I own the book and didn't realize it was an unfinished work. Edit: Oh wow, Sophie's World, as well! I enjoyed A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking. Sweet gift!
@@starlasell5698 It is lovely and I believe I will be satisfied despite the lack of ending. And I’m glad to hear you enjoyed A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking!
Sober Diaries sounds like it would be a good read. I am really interested in the Wives and Daughters book now although I would have never picked it based on the cover lol. Oh I have seen Dr Mindy too.. fasting has really helped me along with the book Fast Feast Repeat. Sophie’s World sounds very intriguing… you have quite a good book haul.
@@TheLibraryMouseGina I have been very intrigued by fasting so I’m glad to hear you’ve had success! I have seen some beautiful editions of Wives and Daughters out there so I hope you can find one you love.
Endurance!! One of my fav nonfic books of all time.
It was fantastic wasn’t it 🥹
I’m also going on a book buying ban, want to read more non-fiction, and read more classics.
Excellent goals! Do you have a solid plan of things you plan to read?
@ Some books I for sure want to read and others are maybes. Mostly nonfiction and classics off my shelves. I have around 30 classics on my shelves I haven’t read and over 100 nonfiction books on my shelves I haven’t read. 😅
Hi. This is C-10’s wife 😊 I follow Pigbay on Twitch now too 😂
@@CoreenWilson-b7g Oh hiiii 🙂 I haven’t even followed him on there yet hahaha

@@Thecatladybooknook_PennyD Thanks for watching!
You did so well on your 2024 goals! I think you’re smart to keep the numbers the same. The number goal is always weird to me since a short story and a big chunkster both can count as one. So having a higher number could just make you shy away from longer books, which is silly if that’s what you want to read. I also think you’re smart to not focus on the limitations, but in the abundance of your shelves and your library. You have so many options already and definitely make an experience of it! I love that you can read at the library and no one will look at you sideways because you haven’t paid for it 😂 And it’s quiet 😊 I also want to use my library more, I’ve started to and there’s so much more to choose from than I had thought, even in English, so I’m going to continue using it to show that it’s appreciated and needed! 😊 I was also thinking contemporary doesn’t have to be set where you live! You can around the world 😊 Reading should be fun as well, so keep it fun! I think the only way to fail is to read books you’re not enjoying for the sake of some arbitrary goal that no one will reward you for. I have no doubt you’ll have a great reading year!
@@ellenmadebookclub Hi Ellen! That is such a good point about the library. I forgot how often I used to just sit there and read for a while so I need to start doing that again. And absolutely, I see people reading short books just because they need to make their goal and there is nothing wrong with short books but big books need love too!
I really want to read The Wager, Endurance and The Pickwick Papers this year!
❤📚🎉❤️ Good luck with your goals for 2025! I'll be here for support. 😁
@@starlasell5698 Thank you so much! 😊
You have done a great job with your goals, and you have some very reasonable goals for the new year. I’d love to hear what classics you are hoping to read in 2025.
@@BookChatWithPat8668 Thank you! One of the Classics I’ve been putting off is Wives and Daughters because I hate unfinished books but I opened it the other day and after all this procrastination I couldn’t put it down again and I’m now several chapters in.
Congrats on reading the Bible!! I’m currently in ACTS and hope to finish soon. 🙏🏻
@@monty1434 That is awesome! I found the New Testament a bit easier to get through until I got to Paul’s letters 😅
@ I’ve heard the same 🤣
I still need to read The Wager and Endurance. My favorite book of 2024 was The Mark of Zorro by Johnston McCulley. A short read that was just super fun from start to finish.
@@colonelmustardinthelibrary That’s awesome. Haven’t heard of that one but it sounds super fun! Thanks for sharing. The Wager and Endurance are some of the best nonfiction I’ve ever read.
I loved The moonstone and Middlemarch and now I'm very excited to get to the Pickwick papers 😊
@Bryndisdaugtherofgunnar I just found it so funny and the characters so loveable!
I will share my favorite books next week so you are not late 😀 I also loved the POV of the butler in the Moonstone 🙂 Not really liking Dickens, I think I will try Pickwick Papers 😉
@@BernasBookishAdventures Glad to know I’m not alone lol. I was also a bit wary of Dickens but The Pickwick Papers made me want to explore more Dickens. And yes! Wasn’t the butler just the cutest?
Middlemarch is on my tbr for this year. Well, it was for last year but I didn’t get to it. lol I’ve read the Bible all the way through twice. I’ve only read the KJV. Which versions have you read and which one are you reading now? I read The Time Machine years ago and really enjoyed it. The War of the Worlds is on my tbr for this year. I loved The Lost City of Z by David Grann and loved it. I love books about real life lost cities and lost treasure. I might read The Wager but not sure if it’ll be this year or not. I have The Moonstone and was going to read it. But decided not to. Now I’ll have to put it back on my tbr because of your review. 😊 And I love books written through letters and journals.
@@tarareads23 That’s awesome! I read through the NIV in 2024 and now I am in the CSB but am opening a NASB to compare every so often. Next will probably be NKJV. I have The Lost City of Z on my shelf waiting to be read so I am so happy to hear you liked it! Oooh and I hope you enjoy The Time Machine! Our reading tastes seem quite similar!
@@MyMessyBookshelf Thank you for the list of Bible editions. Yes, we do have similar taste. 😊
Hi! My favorites were Mrs. Pollifax (I read 3) and Caravan by Dorothy Gilman. The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy is traumatic but beautiful writing. I got caught up with the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling). Mala's Cat, a Memoir of Survival in WWII, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Madam Fourcade's Secret War by Lynne Olson, My Antonia by Willa Cather and The Seedkeeper by Diane Wilson. The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel (I love all her books). It was a good reading year! I own a copies of The Wager and Pickwick Papers, and I want to read them sometime soon.
@@carlabrown6849 Looks like you had a great reading year! Some of these sound like they’d make me cry my eyes out! I have one from Emily St John Mandel sitting on my shelf waiting to be read this year so I’m glad to hear you enjoy her books. ❤📚🎉❤️ Happy New Year! I hope 2025 brings you much happiness and many, many enjoyable reads. I enjoyed seeing what brought you joy in 2024.😊 I listened to The Ogress and the Orphans on Libby. I wish I'd read the physical copy because though I enjoyed it, I think I would have loved it even more! I still need to read my copy of The Wager. I know I'll love it. I added The Moonstone and The Pickwick Papers to my Goodreads "want to read" as soon as you talked about them first time. 👍 What?!? A miniseries of Endurance? Yes, please.
@@starlasell5698 Happy New Year to you as well! I hope you have a wonderful year. I keep talking about the same books and I’m always worried that my book friends won’t enjoy them after I yapped on and on 😅 so I really hope you enjoy them if and when you get to them.
@MyMessyBookshelf I love hearing you talk about your favorites! It really adds to the excitement of picking up the book.
I have re-read some books and plan to do some more re-reading. Have you seen or listened to the soundtrack for the musical Six? You might enjoy it!
