30 minutes of jazz piano practice| A jazz practice method
Jazz practice method. This a video of me realistically using a jazz practice method I use in real time. That is, working a tune through listening, practicing the melody, voicings and improvisation. Most importantly in any jazz practice method, you have to understand the song conceptually.
It makes more sense if you watch the video! If you needed to see someone actually practice jazz, here is the video for that!

Jazz outside playing can be heard from early bebop. McCoy Tyner's manner of "outside" playing in jazz is heard with anticipatory timing. This is what makes his "outside" playing in jazz effective. Hope this jazz on "outside" playing through the vantage point of McCoy Tyner helps. I do share your obsession with McCoy Tyner. He is a great pianist, has an impressive sense of timing and phrasing and a very distinctive wonderful sound. E. g. I do listen to Bessie's Blues (on the album Crescent) now since about 40 year and still think it's one of the blueprints of what can be played over a Jazz blues. Thanks for this insightful video! The best music I have ever heard is when I'm practicing for myself without recording. I don't know why, and it's incredibly frustrating that I cannot capture it. I improvise and get into an amazing zone that I am completely unable to get into when I'm aware someone is listening. Just the knowledge that someone is listening dries up my voice completely. The best performance I ever gave was for one gardener outside a gig I was rehearsing for while I was warming up scales. Your videos are awesome, and you open my musical mind.
