I do share your obsession with McCoy Tyner. He is a great pianist, has an impressive sense of timing and phrasing and a very distinctive wonderful sound. E. g. I do listen to Bessie's Blues (on the album Crescent) now since about 40 year and still think it's one of the blueprints of what can be played over a Jazz blues. Thanks for this insightful video! Thanks for making things simple; for you're giving much encouragement! I have 1 question. What part does or will the ear play in learning to read music, or how does it work with a beginner like me? The best music I have ever heard is when I'm practicing for myself without recording. I don't know why, and it's incredibly frustrating that I cannot capture it. I improvise and get into an amazing zone that I am completely unable to get into when I'm aware someone is listening. Just the knowledge that someone is listening dries up my voice completely. The best performance I ever gave was for one gardener outside a gig I was rehearsing for while I was warming up scales. Your videos are awesome, and you open my musical mind. Going to learn some bebop

Great lecture but I'm worried you are drinking sprite zero to hydrate yourself why not sip on some water on a big black or brown bottle, mybe with a little bit of lemon if the water taste is boring for you. As you grow into it pure plain water will be the best taste and option for you lol...
