Badminton's INSANE 30 Year Journey to the Olympics Part 3
How did badminton become an Olympic sport?
On the outset this seemed like quite an easy question to answer. I knew the general story pretty well so thought with some padding out and interesting inside information this could make a nice, little video in time for the Paris Games.
How wrong I could have been...
The more I read, the crazier the story got, with it lasting almost 3 decades and involving fighting, political strife, boycotts, a split in the badminton world and even lawsuits!
This story is so massive, and I didn't want to overlook anything, that I decided it had to be broken into parts.
So, here's part 3, the final part, where the badminton world is united and the Olympic dream comes true.
But with that dream realised many more issues arise...

I was weeping too! The thing you can't see well in the match is that Tai was smiling, but because of the hug she started crying too. Ratchanok knew that this was their last match ever, and Tai's last match ever, and she's the one who outed her friend from the Olympics. The gravity of the moment wasn't lost on her. She's such a big heart. These two women are my heroes. Truly the end of an era. What a thing to witness.

Indeed your gut feeling on kimwonho is true. he will achieve great thing and already secure at least a silver in olympic debut. the most underrated pair is now in the Olympic Finals. I stand with my prediction that 1993-1994 and 2000s born will advanced far. Jeong na eun (2000) pearly tan (2000) huang ya qiong (1994) marin (1993) I believe Axelsen(1994) and Marin(1993) will storm their way into finals tomorrow.

It was amazing how they turned the tide in the second game and particularly the third. India were looking good in mid 3rd game, leading 11-9 and 14-11 at some stage. But the Malaysians hung in there, played their game, controlled the shuttle well. Again, they turned the tide with very good tactics. Before we knew it, they were up 20-16 and playing for match point. Win. 👍💪

It's such a shame as she was brilliant and untouchable for a few years, but just fell short on a few occasions in the finals of the Olympics and Worlds. She does have an Asian Games Gold 🥇, but she could have achieved so much more. I'm really crying for her. 😢😖😫😭 Watching her performing on court whilst on song is just utterly fascinating. She made the game look so beautiful and graceful. It's kinda like watching peak Roger Federer.

A little late to the party here, but I would like to say that if you put 2008 olympic final lin dan against 2011 lin dan, I think that the 2008 version would win. In 2008, he had no concern for injuries whatsoever. He was incredibly fast on court, and watching that game is simply ridiculous. You wonder why you don't see such incredible attack in modern mens singles, and its because nobody has the stamina or speed to get behind the shuttle every time it is in the air, and rarely can they get from the back of the court to the front in time to get over the shuttle and kill it. LCW definetely wasn't playing his best, but his defence was not bad either. The reason there were so many net kills was because of both the quality of LDs smashes, and because of his sheer speed on the follow up. Lin dan was a more 'well rounded' player afterwards, but his style evolved into a more long term style. He began losing games that he shouldn't have lost, and played almost conservatively. He never was as fast after the 2008 olympics, likely to extend his career and avoid injury. If he was to do this against the 2008 LD, he would have been punished quickly. LD was also a very momentum based player, and the 08 version was much better at forcing errors than the 2011 lin dan, who would wait for his opponent to make a mistake.

My prediction is boring. Not what i want but it's gonna be the oldtimers, Axelsen and Marin for singles. ASY will have disappointed run. Love Tai for a podium end but not gold unfortunately. Other potential years are 1993-1994 and 2000. So Huangyaqiong have best chance for XD. dark horse would be Toh ee wei although unlikely. MD, we have rankireddy and liang weikeng. Liang weikeng has an extraordinary formation so I'd pick China. skip Indo. these pair have zero luck in major tour altho they are truly good. WD, we have a pair with 2 players born in 2000 and 1994. almost certain they will get the gold. lee so hee-baek ha na. altho my personal favourite is pearly tan and i know she would get a very major title in her life cause she would be rich (malaysia offer 7 million for first gold). so korea is my pick, with either malaysia or indo being dark horse (depend who survive group stage). again skip japanese namishida. zero luck in major tour like indo MD.
