@BenBeckmanBadminton this is really a great video of a pair who ruled badminton. Though they could have won more titles and stayed a bit longer. thanks for a great video.
Thanks Ben for this excellent video. I think you have a talent for making a good Badminton documentary. Didn’t know that Kevin doesn’t have a partner he still young, not sure whether he still has the motivation or the enthusiasm of his old self but he’s younger than Marcus.
@amitavraja3385 thank you for the kind words. I will keep trying to get better. Yes Kevin could still have a few more good years left in him but we'll just have to wait and see if he continues playing, and if he does, who with
I'm from the Philippines and badminton is slowly emerging as a popular sport in my country. The minions to us was a legend...I also had a hard time accepting the bitter truth about the sad ending of their story...But when you said that the brightest star has the shortest life, I realized the fact the their feat although had a sad ending, was also a story of triumph, glory and victory, all of which are life's components...I am now at peace and able to accept that great story of the minions. sad as it may seem in the end,, but was also inspiring and has lots of things to teach us....Mabuhay our Minions !!!
Kevin & Markus, changed many things in the world of badminton. In fact, they show that body size is not a problem for a fight. Yes, they changed that view. and provide great encouragement to certain people.
Well said all thruout the video. People said that Badminton is the fastest racket sports. Men's doubles is always seen as the fastest among all of the disciplines. Indonesia men's doubles successes rely on faster style compare to others. And the minions in 2016-2019 were simply the fastest pair of humans on the badminton court. Monsters.
They did rise very quickly to badminton stardom. I remembered the era when I watched them and I kind of had that feeling of no anxious of the result. I mean, they would just clinched the trophy. But, in the end, the spark was just not there. In doubles discipline, sometimes you have to deal with the fact that your partner shows a subpar performance, and what you will do in that kind of situation. It's like you win together and you lose together thingy. Gideon was the type of hard working person, Kevin was blessed with a special talent, more like a gifted rare breed player. The combination worked out very well. Honestly I doubt anyone could've replaced Gideon as Kevin new partner and vice versa. The chemistry was there. The chemistry they wouldn't have gotten if paired with another. But when the chemistry had been gone, the end was clearly in sight.
miss them so much...especially Kevin...the best ever player in front of the net and really really entertaining....can't t wait to see the next Kevin Sanjaya
I really miss Clark's voice when they play, Kevin with his funny actions and Marcus with his loud smashes. What's most special in my opinion is when a fast and long rally is over and then Clark will shout oh so awesome. The unexpected ending was that Kevin married the daughter of the TV station owner who broadcast the action hahaha what an extraordinary ending... Always a legend in my and everyone's hearts. everyone is worthy of emulation especially with their struggles but not Kevin who often does funny actions, he knows the ball will come out but he pretends to hit it... hahahahah thak's for make the video.... ❤❤❤
As an Indonesians it's very unfortunate not to see them win the Olympic gold medal when they were in their prime era. Nonetheless, they are one of the best Indonesian's MD pair in history. Thank you, The Minions!

Ben, we couldn't thank you enough for this excellent video. This is simply the best badminton tribute I've ever watched. The way you presented the informations is stunning. I am sure the amount of research you did for this beautiful video must be massive. It requires immense dedication to produce such splendid quality of presentation like this one. Thanks a lot, Ben. Thank you very much for your video. I still remember the excitement watching badminton all those years while Minions on top. I agree with you, despite their ending, I choose to remember them as the magnificent ahtlete with remarkable achievements. They are will be forever remain Indonesian pride.
They maybe cocky at some time but the performance delivered that their achievements may be unbreakable. Thank you for the video! I hope I can see others as well.
The "cocky" persona is actually one of the smartest stance that they took during the match/ tournament. It's 110% psy-war towards the opponent. In daily life here in Indonesia they're pretty humble, inside-out.
@@widopanenmaya8914 Actually true. Some hated them but if you're an enthusiast on the sport, you will always find the reason on how to improve such as how I improved my footwork because of these 2.

For me it implies that Gideon was such an unsung hero. Everyone is like: Kevin..Kevin..and so on. And now for such relative produictive age, Kevin wont do much. But still Minions was a pinnacle of Badminton MD. The good old days.
Very impressive career! Truly a legendary pair that unfortunately did not end the best way... Happy retirement to Gideon who, whatever people say, was definitely a big part of the success of the minions. Thank you for this amazing documentary paying a well deserved tribute to all their achievements!
Beautifully made and well explained video, 45 minutes flew by without getting bored and thank you for covering such an amazing duo that Indonesia has ever had.
I started adapting their gamestlye while they were number 1 in the world.....learned a lot from these two amazing athletes. They didn't win any world championships or olympic medals but mannnnn they inspired many players to play like them. Amazing input video, i always checked whether these two pairs would continue or not but sad to hear that both of them retired and didn't get attention as much as Lin dan or LCW but what an era of dominance they displayed. Thank you Minions.
Truly cant hold my tears to watch this. The minions were magical and we Indonesian people are super proud of them. Happy retire, Legend ♥ And tons of thank to you Ben for this video. you deserve my subs and a lot more!!!
it's so sad that the fact their not play for us again in top tier badminton tournament, like you said "the brightest star wont live forever" that wird touch me hard since i being a huge fan for minion. thank you for minion and you ghe creator of this video 😢
Ikutin minions dari 2017, punya kesempatan nonton mereka langsung di istora pertama kali asian games 2018 - indonesia master 2023. Masa-masa bahagia gue jadi fans badminton. Happy retirement koh sinyo! thank you for the recap video :)) just made me sad again and again.
Kevin sanjaya married to the daughter of one of the indonesian richest man, so he don't need to play badminton anymore , i don't think we will ever see kevin playing again 😅
@@BenBeckmanBadmintonnah, he won't be back mate. As long as they have that scumbag politician in the highest level of PBSI who didn't really love the game of badminton itself and didn't understand how to handle the outrageous love put by the Indonesian badminton fans to support their athletes, Kevin won't be interested to be back.
Terima Kasih Ben for the superb video, as an Indonesian Badminton is where We can shine as a country, although football is really big here, but due to mismanagement our national team never get to shine even in South East Asia, don't talk about the local football competition also. So Badminton from the 1990's is like a the escape goat for all of the Indonesian people frustation, player like Susi Susanti , Alan Budikusuma, Joko Suprianto, Taufik Hidayat is all our heroes, their match is when all nation sit and watch putting our hope on their shoulders to make us proud as a country. When the minions is on the winning streak it's one of the proudest moment to see some of the glory in the 90's are coming back. Looking forward for more of your videos! Once again Terima Kasih.
Whatever the case, they are still my favourite pair in men's doubles..given that i share the same stature with them so i tried to base my playing style on them..but just like Gideon and older by 2 years, it's really a struggle to completely recover from injury and get back to top condition so i feel why kevin got frustrated..anyway, the Minions will remain a badminton legend! ❤from Philippines 🇵🇭
Wow, this was a great video. Ever since I got into badminton, I have always enjoyed watching the minion, but wasn't around for their come up. So i really appreciate this video. Well done💯
The pair that epitomes what could have...but just missed the final mark...but I always throughly enjoyed whenever they play...its not just badminton, it's an entertainment
Really enjoyed this long form deep dive into a team or player . Their profiles also add to more understanding of country organizations and coaches . I hope this video does well for you !
Minions is the strongest and the unluckiest pair. They started to raise when it was the last year to accumulate points for olympic. Despite they won 3 tournament that year, they couldn't catch up with other pair's points. Then in the next olympic they got health problem. Also in they last reign, there is Covid 19. After many tournament was suspended and they also got Covid 19, their performance is never same again. Thank you Minions, you already entertain us and show us what the best you can do
Appreciating your wife’s work! I initially thought your long-form content would be hard to get traction but I changed my mind. I think you have a shot at it Ben. In the edutainment space they started having long-form content that is doing well. If you grow consistently you’ll be the first guy to do long-form content in the badminton space. Woohoo! I hope you find a team, or at least some help, to help you grow. All the best!
I'll pass on your appreciation to her. I do agree, it was a slight risk but having watched many long format TH-cam videos, and being hooked on subjects I never thought I would be, I felt it was possible. I'm by no means perfect, I have many things to improve on (a team would certainly help), but I'll keep working at it. Thanks again and hopefully let's see this channel grow 😊

they had a good run. one of the most winningest pair if not the most won. that is the natural path of sports. something new comes in, it will take time for everyone to adjust. they were on top for 3-4 years and just won all but major end tournaments. it was still a successful career.
Thanks Ben. This was a great video highlighting the career of these two magnificent players. The tragedy for stellar individuals, in any field, is that there is only one direction for them to head in... downwards. In a sport with the physical demands of badminton that grip on the top of the greased pole is brief and it tends to come at a young age which makes maintaining personal value and perspective when the light begins to fade all the harder. Sadly, we tend to focus more on getting our elite sportsmen to this level than what we to prepare them for once they are there and what must inevitably follow.
This is all true, it is inevitable that a pair would start to lose, get slower and be overtaken by the next generation. But it shouldn't have gone the way it did, making the ending rather sad. I just hope both are happy and can live with limited regrets. They entertained us all for those years they were at their best
@@BenBeckmanBadminton agree its rather sad to see the way its end. and there's always the lingering question what could been, but not everyone can had a career like Hendra Setiawan so i hope Gideon can enjoy his retirement now
I've been a badminton fan since 2013, the first time I watched Liliyana Natsir/Tantowi Ahmad win the 2013 World Champs after that, I love Badminton, I always followed the news and until finally I saw Kevin/Gideon They made me like badminton more, I always look forward to their matches, I don't know how but there is something about the way they play that makes me very excited, their careers are not Always good, several times failed at the world championships and Olympics. As a fan, I was very sad about how Marcus got injured, their game changed and they could no longer compete and finally Markus decided to retire, as a fan I am just grateful for being in the world of badminton because I really idolize you. Thank you. Btw Thanks for the content.
Its a nice well made video, sir... As a badminton fans, i would like to see this kind of video for Chinese Legends Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng. They completed their trophies major and superseries, and they also reach double Olympic Finals, even triple for Fu Haifeng. Good job
@@BenBeckmanBadmintonit would be great to wait. Fu Haifeng transforms in his gameplay just like Lin Dan. Not a coincidence he can be a winner in Olympic 4 years after change partner. Eventhough in the last set of 2016 Olympic Final i honestly think he is lucky because Malaysian pair got nervous and made two unforced errors in a row, but winning is winning
Great video👍...thanks Ben for compiling the Minions, the pair that i love to watch when they're playing, they trully entertained us as badminton lovers....
amazing video! was lovely to revisit some of the 2017-19 dominant minions era again. also interesting how indonesia has gone from the most dominant mens doubles country to struggling to having 2 pairs for the olympics this year. i guess the retirement of gideon (minions) and age catching up to the daddies, the quality of training is just not there anymore (?) definitely interesting times as we build up to the olympics
This pair has been my inspiration since I started badminton, and it's sad to see them part ways. Your story will live on. Happy retirement to the Minions.

I did not realize they had been dominating since 2016/2017. It just felt like last year.
We miss Minion on court 💔💔
Thanks Ben, I really enjoy your video. and perfect Indonesia translation at the end.
❤️
Very impressive career! Truly a legendary pair that unfortunately did not end the best way... Happy retirement to Gideon who, whatever people say, was definitely a big part of the success of the minions. Thank you for this amazing documentary paying a well deserved tribute to all their achievements!
More than welcome. Was amazing to make. Loved it
Yuta/endo really was the minion's kryptonite
They really were
Yes they were, but hendra/ahsan were yuta/endo kryptonite respectively 😛
And Minions is Hendra-Ahsan kryptonite 😊
@@nikomangariani9105full circle... now MD more even than minion was..
And yet none neither of the pairs ever won the Worlds or Olympics
Beautifully made and well explained video, 45 minutes flew by without getting bored and thank you for covering such an amazing duo that Indonesia has ever had.
Thank you, so glad you liked it 😊 plenty more to come
Amazing job on the video. Your videos are truly documentary level. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻
😊🙌🏻
Terima Kasih atas prestasi untuk Indonesia @Kevin & Marcus....#Indonesiabangga
Truly cant hold my tears to watch this. The minions were magical and we Indonesian people are super proud of them.
Happy retire, Legend ♥
And tons of thank to you Ben for this video. you deserve my subs and a lot more!!!
Thank you for watching and subbing. Glad u liked the vid 😊
thank you for the compilation. they will always be my favorite pair.. I wish them both the best!
You're welcome 😊
please make more content like this often
plus try some real life interview with Pro players to promote badminton
Plenty more content to come, lots of badminton stories to tell. Hoping as I grow I can get more interviews with players to help me tell their story
absolutely loved every bit of it.. thanks Ben.. it was such a thrill watching these two play. Hopefully Kevin gets back to playing soon!
I hope we see him on court too, would be fun to watch
And so glad you enjoyed it 😊
I am still waiting for Kevin to show up, while respecting legendary Marcus's retirement.
The presence of Minions has changed the style of men's doubles play throughout the world
it's so sad that the fact their not play for us again in top tier badminton tournament, like you said "the brightest star wont live forever" that wird touch me hard since i being a huge fan for minion. thank you for minion and you ghe creator of this video 😢
It is sad because they were so exciting to watch. But I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊 I hope you watch more of my stuff
Thank you for the videos. It was a greatfull that you are not made only videos, but you told us a stories
That's what I'm aiming to do. Bring you badminton through story telling 😊
What a great memory! Thank for making this video ❤
My pleasure 🙌🏻
Ikutin minions dari 2017, punya kesempatan nonton mereka langsung di istora pertama kali asian games 2018 - indonesia master 2023. Masa-masa bahagia gue jadi fans badminton. Happy retirement koh sinyo! thank you for the recap video :)) just made me sad again and again.
Glad u liked the video 😊
@@BenBeckmanBadminton i’m back after heard kevin news retirement😭😭😭😭😭
Kevin sanjaya married to the daughter of one of the indonesian richest man, so he don't need to play badminton anymore , i don't think we will ever see kevin playing again 😅
Financially he is sorted for life. If he still feels a little empty because he didn't achieve all he wanted then maybe we'll see him return
😮@@Andre-fe4lw
@@Andre-fe4lw interesting. can you elaborate more on who this politician is? and why is he a scumbag?

It was sad to see that my favourite MD team ended like this... but also what a great video keep up the good work!
I will do 🙌🏻
Terima Kasih Ben for the superb video, as an Indonesian Badminton is where We can shine as a country, although football is really big here, but due to mismanagement our national team never get to shine even in South East Asia, don't talk about the local football competition also.
Sama sama Yenda 🙂🙏🏻

Thank you. For the kind words and for subscribing 😊🙌🏻
Well done💯
Glad you liked it
Amazing Video and Badminton Mens Double History knowldedge,,,
😊🙌🏻
A very well-arranged and well-deliverd documentary.
A massive thanks for Gideon/Kevin for what they have done for badminton and Indonesia.
Thank you! And yes... Thank you Minions
Decent work! It's a thorough story about the Minions
Great job on the Bahasa Indonesia subtitle too.
Thanks!
Thank you. Glad u liked it. Yeah my wife did a solid job on that front
I hope so too. Glad u liked it 😊
Thanks Ben, to bring this story up! We hope all the best for both of them in the future.
Very welcome. And yes, I hope so too
Terimakasih Ben, sudah menyertakan dengan Subtitle Indonesia 😊
Sama sama, tapi istri saya yang menulis subtitles (sorry if my Indonesian is very wrong 😅)
Thanks again and hopefully let's see this channel grow 😊
what a tribute ben...
tanks for your hardwork.
You're very welcome. Glad u liked it
Fantastic Documentary. Enjoyed throughout. Covered all the ups and downs. ❤
So glad you liked it. It was a rollercoaster

they had a good run. one of the most winningest pair if not the most won. that is the natural path of sports.
something new comes in, it will take time for everyone to adjust. they were on top for 3-4 years and just won all but major end tournaments.
it was still a successful career.
Are you me? Cause it literally sounds like my story😮
I'll do a video on either just Natsir or Ahmad & Natsir as I loved that pair. Glad you liked this video 😊

You're welcome. So glad you liked it. Working on my Momota one now and it's gonna be twice as epic
Its a nice well made video, sir... As a badminton fans, i would like to see this kind of video for Chinese Legends Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng. They completed their trophies major and superseries, and they also reach double Olympic Finals, even triple for Fu Haifeng. Good job
I have a good video idea for Cai and Fu in mind actually. Maybe it'll be done before the end of the year
@@BenBeckmanBadmintonit would be great to wait.
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
amazing video! was lovely to revisit some of the 2017-19 dominant minions era again. also interesting how indonesia has gone from the most dominant mens doubles country to struggling to having 2 pairs for the olympics this year. i guess the retirement of gideon (minions) and age catching up to the daddies, the quality of training is just not there anymore (?) definitely interesting times as we build up to the olympics
Thanks for the documentary..
I miss minions so much 🥲
You're very welcome and me too
This pair has been my inspiration since I started badminton, and it's sad to see them part ways. Your story will live on. Happy retirement to the Minions.
When the athletes not enjoy the game anymore than win, that's mental health comes to be a problem

Love from Malaysia , minions is my favourite pair , feels so sad when I heard them retired 😢
Thank you to put all this together, and make it into great memorable videos, I am pretty sure, they ( Kevin/Marcus) will keep this video on their " Diary " that they can show it to their children's, that they ever been on " Top of the world", for quite sometimes..
If they do that, I'd be eternally in shock (and thankful)

Kevin - Gideon kami bangga memiliki mu pejuang olah raga Indonesia. We Love You Minion ❤🇮🇩🙏🏻 Kevin Gideon sekali kali lah bermain pertandingan eksebisi ya biar kami terobati 🎉 Thanks Hero
