On the Edge: Spring Yellowbelly Action at Burrinjuck!
If you have never experienced the tick on the line when a hungry yellowbelly hits your lure on the drop or sucks it in off the bottom, now is the time to hit the edges. The edges of our beautiful freshwater impoundments are starting to warm up, and so are the feisty golden perch, which are beginning to fire up after winter. The food chain warms up first along the edges, and the yellas know it. It's often only a short window of opportunity for us anglers to cash in on what is a super fun (while not always the easiest) way to catch them. I ventured out to Burrinjuck recently, and while it took me a while to find the edge bite, find it I did! Thanks for watching; I hope you enjoy this episode.

MENTAL Murray Cod Fishing-Is this the ultimate head noise silencer?

Head Noise.... that fuzzy distracting endless rabbit hole of thoughts that sometimes becomes almost to much to bare, leading to anxiety as pressures from the fast paced world we live in wear away at our sanity. It's no secret I've had my share of battles and in this episode I set out to silence my head noise and I cant think of any better silencer then the hit of a monster Murray Cod. I set out...

If you have ever been lucky enough to see the NT floodplains in flood you will know just how vast they are, look a little closer and you will see that a lot of those floodplains have to pass through some kind of choke point before entering into the main river system-Now Thats a feed funnel if ever I've seen one! Upukerora River fishing- Fly and spin
มุมมอง 5276 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the easiest river we found to fish on our NZ trip, easy access, easy water to fish and big hungry rainbow trout willing to any number of lure and fly. This was the only section of water I was able to fish twice during our whirlwind trip along the length of NZ and it was great to get amongst some quality fish on both spin and fly.
River Bank Walking Basics- gear, approach and techniques
มุมมอง 4.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this episode we are walking the banks of the Murrumbidgee river out towards Darlingtion point. I run through our setups, lure choices and techniques and the reason for what we run to help improve bank walking success. I hope you get a tip or two out of this one and if you have any questions at all be sure to drop them in the comments and I will happily answer them.
BIG blow-up from a Murray Cod~Bank walking the Murrumbidgee
มุมมอง 3K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is probably the biggest top water boof I have seen or heard! I hit the Murrumbidgee on foot for an early morning bank walking session, the light comes on really quick in the mornings so the key is to cover as many good stumps as possible before the sun hits the water. It dosen't take long to get the first boof and then, a little bit later in the session(what I think) was the same fish come...
Trout fishing techniques- Bait, Spin or Fly fishing
มุมมอง 6317 หลายเดือนก่อน
Trout are an aggressive feeder which makes them catchable using a variety of techniques. On this trip we all try a different technique to see which one works the best. It’s a great trip with plenty of fish and also a few thrills and spills along the way. Happy viewing.
Top water Flathead- Fishing with bent minnows
มุมมอง 2.7K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
In another first for me I try topwater flathead fishing with bent minnow style lures and I tell you what, they are amazingly effective and a hell of alot of fun to fish. We mostly target the shallow flats around the top of the tide when the fish move up to feed, if you haven't before you should give this technique a try.

Love the video but I was just wondering if like Eppalock is any good for chasing Murray cod and yellowbelly with the live scope
Thank you. I’m not very familiar with Eppalock but I do know there is a fair population of yellas in there but they aren’t firing yet. I’ve just had a look at the report from Graham on the Social Fishing membership platform and it looks like they are yet to fire up with the water temps still down a bit.
@@DanWebberFishing thanks mate
Great video boys thanks for sharing👌 Also hate to get technical but those shapes were dextrenized not caramelised Dyl 😂
Thanks mate, bit of a different style to this one for a bit of fun. Dillan and I have just learnt a new word 😂
Great Vid thanks for sharing
Thanks mate, it’s always good trying new techniques and getting the boys into a fish
Another well presented clip mate, this stuff is gold for myself as a coastie just starting out on impoundment fishing, had two trips so far first burrinjuck last year and windamere a couple of weeks ago, failed to turn a reel on both occasions but I won’t be giving up at any rate, keep em coming mate definitely appreciate the local knowledge 🤙
Hey Josh, thanks so much for the great comment, it means a lot to hear such positive feedback. It can be really hard working out the dams early on, especially if you don’t get the chance to fish them often. Burrinjuck is fishing great this spring but Windamere is far from easy atm, just spent a couple of days up there and had to really work for them. Keep at it mate, it will all come together. 🎣
Just purchased a boat with the live scope and I’m very keen to get out and try some of these techniques. Great video mate
You will be blown away by what you see and the different techniques you will be able to use. Thanks for the feedback and all the best with the new boat.
@@DanWebberFishing cheers mate. Sing out if you get down to Hume won’t you 👍
@@andrewsoutdoors1802no worries mate, will do.
With your transducer pole being on the right I'm just wondering if your right handed or left. Do you cast with your right or left. I'm just in the process of mounting my pole and I'm wondering what is best ?
I am right handed with a right hand wind, I cast left or right
@@DanWebberFishing thxs for your reply and help
I’m going to try Forster keys tomorrow. I fished there today and only managed 3 tiny bream (10cm) on prawns as bait. What would you recommend in turns of location at Forster keys bait lures and time for flathead. All I want is one or two flathead to take home for dinner and I can never seem to catch them. Could you please give me some advice for this location so I can take one home for dinner
Could you please give me some advice?
I have never fished the keys so I can’t give much advice on that, what I can say is because there isn’t any natural flow of water up there it wouldn’t be my first pick of spots and may be while your not finding many fish. Flow brings food. 4inch soft plastics in natural baitfish colours are a good flathead option. Go and see the guys at Barclays, they will hook you up.
@@DanWebberFishingI’ll be landbased fishing at Forster keys would a slim swim be good in motor oil colour at the keys?
@@jacksonwallis5501 yes they are a good option
Cause you don’t recommend Forster keys to catch flathead where could you recommend landbased in Forster where I would definitely be able to catch a flathead for dinner
Nice work Dan. Informative, engaging and well put together. What you see is what you get, no fluff and no boring bits. Thumbs up as always.
Hey mate, thanks much appreciated. That sums up my channel spot on. 👍🎣
Hand holds fish, pliers hold hooks.
Great advice, unfortunately we get complacent sometimes and sometimes we pay for it
Tuncurry mate
Yes mate Wallis lake at Forster-Tuncurry the twin towns.
Nice work mate👍
Thank you
Thanks for another great video Dan.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
Great video mate 🎣
Thanks mate, appreciate it. 👌
Great seeing you and your son sharing catch and release fishing. As he gets older perhaps he could use a landing net rather than drag the fish up on the bank. When they flop around in the dirt and rocks they lose the coating that protects them against infections. They will swim away strong but could get sick and die later. Good luck to both of you.
Hi Dale, thank you.
How good are boat dramas 😂 mine did the exact same on the Hume yesterday in the wind 🤦🏼♂️ another great one Dan keep it up mate 👍🏻
It’s bound to happen now and then and usually makes for a good story, I told my boys don’t worry this happened so one of you can catch a big cod, unfortunately not to be this time but we had a great trip anyway. Did it bugger the session for you? I hope not. Thanks mate I sure will.
@@DanWebberFishing that’s it mate bound to happen, nah just a couple hrs but got it all sorted again!
Live scoping is not fishing, more like poaching IMO
That’s your opinion, thanks for sharing it
Inland boys always have a few bits of box firewood in the boat 😉👍🏻
Always mate
Good vid. Shame on the weather. Do you just use forward mode between chasing cod and yella's ,, how far out ya looking on the yella's ? Yes that boat does need a birthday !
Thanks Tony, it happens just have to make the best of it. I use forward for both but have started to use perspective a bit as well, but still learning that. I run 28 metres forward on the cod but will often pull it back to 20-24 on the yellas when fishing vertical A messy boat is a well used boat but yes probably needs a good clean after a big cod season.
What a great video mate, love these style of videos!
How did you end up in the comp?
Thank you, that’s great to hear I changed it up a bit and put a bit more into the cinematic style and time around camp, I enjoy shooting and editing that way. We didn’t rank in the top 5 this year but not far off.
Great work boys
Thank you 🙌
Great video thanks like to get down there one day. While I’m down there I could help you wash & vacuum your boat just saying.
No way, you’ll wash off all the cod juju
Yeah & these big Breeders are always put back where they belong to keep the Flatties still making good plate fish. Everyone knows that the bigger they are, the tougher, which isn’t the best feed.
Absolutely every big fish is looked after and released, I love a feed of flathead something around 40cm is good for the table.
Hell yeah. We love our Forster. Shhhh don’t tell too many people
It is an amazing place that I have been visiting for 35 years, I have so many great memories from when I was a kid fishing up there with my Dad and Pop. It’s amazing to see the fishing is still great.
Another great video Dan.
Thanks Adam, good to hear from you. 👍🎣
Epic vid mate. The young fella frothin watching dad real one in is what it’s all about. 👌👌
Thank you, that footage of my young bloke is incredible he was so happy to just be in the boat to see it happen. We will have to make another trip up now that they are getting a bit older and get them onto some big Barra of their own.
Fantastic stuff Dan! It couldn't get any better surely! Really love those screen recordings, would love to see more of that.Do you think any form of lightning on the deck ect puts them off at night?
Thank you. It’s been a great season up there, water conditions are great and the big cod have taken advantage of the masses of food available. I have hours and hours of recordings, I guess I could put some edits together with some of it. Any light is unnatural especially on a dark night and so I try my best to keep light off the water as much as possible.
@DanWebberFishing yes conditions must be optimal for those sort of results!More livescope footage would be great.Navigation lights would be pretty unatural also,Can't remember what you have to have on when stationary.Maybe an infared camera could be the go to get that nightime footage.Keep up the good work.
Do you remove the rebels and use assist hooks?
Yes mate I do whenever it suits. Almost always on the vibes, soft or hard. They hook up and stay hooked up well and offer better snag resistance.
Nice stuff mate, thanks
Thank you
Does windamere fish better than Burrinjuck in the spring?
We had a great Spring at Burrinjuck last year and this year should be good also but Windamere is a fantastic fishery with an awesome edge bite in spring
What’s a good live bait for tying up to a snag with the kids?
Worms are the best all year round but because they are always available but when spring comes around if you can catch some shrimp they are dynamite, small yabbies are also great bait in spring and summer
@@DanWebberFishing do the cod go for the yabbies?
@@fazza6777yes they do, just gotta make sure to release them during spring
@@DanWebberFishing thanks Dan. Loving your videos. Gunna try the dam with the kids the end of September/ early October. Does the dam fish well that time of the year?
Thank you. It really depends on the weather through spring and leading up to your trip. If we have a steady warming spring it can be great but if its a wet cool spring it often wont fire up until November. I usually find the upper Murrumbidgee arm fires first.
Awesome video - Thank you for sharing your day. I didn’t even know there were fish that small in the Hine. Dongg to beat yourself up for losing fish in there… you have to pull them hard otherwise you’ll lose gem in snags etc. Just subscribed… cheers John
I definitely threw myself in the deep end here, I had very little experience on the fly before this trip. It is a beautiful river with some incredible fish, hopefully I will get back to fish it again one day. Thanks for Subbing John, greatly appreciated 🎣👍
There’s plenty of tips in last years video also. th-cam.com/video/qj3tja4WZco/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Kfdaq1KfAf_gEr2Q
Hi just found u well done
Awesome Pricey, great to have you onboard. I hope you don’t mind me asking, how did you find the channel?
Hey dan i hear ya ad far as clearing all the head noise, just a question i dont have the livescope or active target as i cant afford it, evan at night is your retrieve super slow or do you speed it up a bit, as i said i dont have the tec so i am fishing blind and are plastics only good if you are using livescope, thanks col
Hey Col, thanks for your message, it can get very noisy at times. Definitely keep it slow at night and plastics are definitely still a top option without the use of live tech. These fish are incredibly in tune to bait movements when they are feeding and can feel the paddle tail and body roll of the big plastics from many metres away well before they see them.
Love your videos, Dan . All the best from the west !
Thanks Pete, I hope all is well over there.
@DanWebberFishing unfortunately, we have been experiencing low rainfall, so our dams are extremely low . I'm heading over your way in November to fish from Copeton all the way up to the barra dams in southern Queensland some 5000 klms from me !
@@peter112999 I’ve heard it’s been very dry over there which is no good. That sounds a hell of a trip, you’ll have to let us know how it goes.
@DanWebberFishing a mate of mine moved to Queensland from WA and is involved in the barra stocking, so it will be interesting and exciting to fish with him . I will join up again as a paid member of Social Fishing as it's so informative , then I can report on the dams I visit!
@@peter112999 sounds awesome mate, look forward to hearing about your trip. We have a report writer for some of the southern QLD Barra dams as well now.
Nice mate. See you up there looking forward to it!
Thanks Josh, see you there.
Verg informative, great stuff. Do you use scents?
Hey Matt, thank you. Yes I’m very big on scent. I use either S factor or the Berkley gel.
Thanks very informative please do more of these
Thanks David, I generally do a lot more Vlog/ session vids on my personal channel as the stuff I do for Social Fishing is more education based, but I’ll see what I can do.
Good luck in the comp mate. Tight lines.
Thanks mate, should be a fun trip with the boys.
Love your work Dan, some excellent advice - nice job.
Cheers Grazza
Good work Dan could do one on swimbait rods
Thanks Darryn, I’ll keep that in mind.
Awesome to see the bite on the live tech! The juck is such a good spot to get out and fish!cheers for the vid!
Thanks Andrew, it’s amazing tech. I almost forget to cast sometimes as I get so caught up in watching them do their thing.
Great to watch Dan! Incredible fishing
Thank you mate, really appreciate the feedback. 👍🎣
Hey Dan quick question, I’ve been looking around for the exact Yamaha PFD you’re running in this video. I like and use the canvas style fabric built style. Pretty sure the only ones in stores are the polyester models. Where did you purchase yours? Thanks mate.
@@mylurebox I got them from Riverina Marine Centre in Wagga. I’m sure they’d be able to get you sorted.
Thank you mate. I’ve just gone looking and found em online. Been doing a fair bit of night fishing recently so having an auto inflate is probably a better option for me and my mates. I appreciate you getting back to me to help Dan. 👍
@@mylurebox too easy mate, I fish at night on my own a bit so it’s a bit of extra piece of mind, especially for my wife.
Awesome as always mate, well done, great fishing

Nothing quite silences the noise like some cod fishing, well done, Dan!
Exactly mate, thank you 🎣
Good stuff mate 👌 No better way to get rid of some headnoise 🤙

The light on attracts the fish so you get more fish so does campfires😀
Interesting theory, I run the least amount of light as possible.
