Hey David, great question. The main reason is snag resistance, because the technique of shaking and hopping requires bottom contact they can be very snaggy when running trebles, the other advantage is those small hooks are super sharp and pin the fish really well and once they are hooked they generally stay hooked.
I run from 6- 10lb braid main line and on this trip I was using 8 and 10lb flouro leader. I find going much higher especially on the jerk baits and soft plastics really effects the action of the lure.

Do you remove the rebels and use assist hooks?
Yes mate I do whenever it suits. Almost always on the vibes, soft or hard. They hook up and stay hooked up well and offer better snag resistance.
What pound line were you using would 8 with 15 lb leader do any good?

Hi Peter they are all 2-4kg around 7ft it’s a bit of a mongrel bunch of rods but they all have differing feels for different jobs
