HamClock Practically Perfect Shutdown Process
All computers have the right way and a wrong way to shut down. They all have processes to shutdown to make a clean signoff. A hard shutdown doesn’t allow the computer to go through it’s shutdown processes.
After my third time reflashing the software, I figured out the what and the why and also figured out the how of preventing this in the future.
In this video we'll take a look at the proper procedures for doing a shut down on the Innovato Quadra computer.

What is ALC? Where should I set it? And why...
มุมมอง 1.7K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
The ALC limits the output power, protecting your rig from over-power and over-heating, especially in the Final Amplifier circuit. It does this by applying a bias voltage to the input signal, essentially clamping down on your signal as it is increased. As you increase the input signal, the more ALC voltage, as displayed on your ALC meter, will be applied. The trick is to find the balance between...

just a side note - the opposite point of the earth is called the antipode - nice explanations of the options, thanks.
Thanks for the video Tom, I'm trying to set my FTDX 10 up today. I see your ALC was peaking at about 8, I could only get mine to 7 even with the mic gain turned right up. I'll go through it all again using your video when I get back to the shack. 73

I used the advice from your video about getting Log4Om, Grid Tracker, and WSJTX talking to each other to get everything set up. Worked great! TNX WA0RJ
Very good, this has me interested in getting my station setup with RTTY! MurF -W4MAB
Hi Tom. Loved the video. Did you use the Fldigi to decode the cw or some hardware device. Many thanks for the videos.
Liked the video but not the silly stuff added, were all adults here...
Hi Tom. John Eckert, KK7UAG here. I was wondering if you could tell me what Monitor you are using. I'm new to the HF side of things and now thanks to stage 4 head and neck cancer it is difficult to speak, chew and swallow so for learning CW is an option for almost everyone else it is a must for me. Do you have any suggestions on where to start as I know absolutely no Morse Code, and can you recommend paddles and morse code practice oscillators. I was thinking about getting & using a WinKeyer as a practice oscillator I have a brand-new FT 710 AESS still in the box along with all the other parts for my first HF station. I just need to learn CW and all the other digital modes like FT-4. FT-8, RTTY, PSK 31 and others. THANKS TOM. 73, John KK7UAG.
Thanks much. These settings work great with my voice and mic. Everyone says don't touch a thing, you sound great. 73
An installation hint. On my machine, I have a separate user for myself from the administrative user which has also been renamed to “admin”. The install works fine run from either place, but when the regular user tries to run it, the program doesn’t create the files it needs to for that user. It just creates the directory structure. So to make it work, I had to copy all of the files into that directory structure from the administrative users files in /users/admin/AppData/Roaming/LOG4OM2.
I do this but my WSJT-X won’t show who I’ve worked before but if I close Grid Tracker, WSJT-X works fine
Thanks for video God bless you ❤❤ 73
Great job thanks for sharing the roster settings, I tweaked mine early on and forgot about further narrowing to better facilitate contacts. 73!
Thanks for the video. It's a great help. Question: do I leave preset off while operating? Pretty sure yes but if I have your attention, I may as well ask. Thank you
Great series Tom. A big user of digital modes in 80s-90s getting back into wsjtx and grid Tracker has been a challenge. Often not explained is the pre-designed start to end 73s is automated. Once initiated by the op if tx signal is copied the QSO will automatically completes for logging. 73s. W3PDR
Do you happen to have a fix for using FT-991A with Omnirig?
Is a cool device for the shack. I have one, still learning all it will do
Seems dead.
Can you change the channel with mouse?
Yes, put your cursor on the frequency segment at the far right, click on it and enter your desired frequency.
@ND3N I am not asking how to change the frequency. I am a memory mode and I'm asking how to change the channel
So very helpful today. I've been stuck for MONTHS trying to restore my sound devices and get FT8 working again and this video did the trick. Can't thank you enough! 73, Mike ND9X
Glad it helped!
Brilliant transfer of information.
I am having problems with call roster staying on when transmitting and disappearing when receiving or vice versa
Shorter
Thank you, sir! Excellent tips! 🙂
Thank you for a very clear and methodical video. Subscribed.
Thanks 👍
Hi Tom, I like the cw-LSB or the cw USB settings because i can still hear the correct SSB mode (depending on the band ) when keeping the receiver in the cw mode and not having to reverse the Upper to the lower....or vice versa while tuning around into the SSB portion of the band....
Thankyou...i have it workin cheers from over the pond
Very nice concise, clear and focused review by ND3N. Regards … WA4AIP
God bless you ! Now fldigi works with my ts590s . 73! YO4NGI
Hi, Sir.please tell me about, can use vhf uhf frequency, for the mobile conversation listening?
Do I need the Sigalink for FT8 with the FTDX-10?
Great video, thank you N7WAV
Thanks!
I'd like to understand why a Winkeyer device is necessary. With an Icom such as yours, can you use "CAT keying" instead and avoid having to purchase an external device?
It’s mostly because all of my previous rigs, over nearly 4 decades, haven’t had that option and I’m kind of stuck in my ways…. That said, I have started playing with CAT keying and getting used to it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Just ordered my FT-DX10 and watched your video ,will do these steps when radio arrives for sure , thanks for the info ,regards William 2I0WMN Northern Ireland
Hope you enjoy it!
@@ND3N Hi Tom yes thank you , Radio arrived and i did all you said setting up ,all working well , really impressed with the radio ,only thing im struggling with is setting it up for FT8 using MSHV 64-BIT softwear , thanks again William 2I0WMN
Tom, Thank You for all your great video's am brand new at this, have my gen. lic. and wanting to make contacts on my IC-7300 none yet, still drinking from a fire hose trying to sort this all out. 73 Jonathan
This is great. I was getting entries with no names and double entries and I found my issue. Many thanks.
I have no idea why these manufacturers are stuck in the past with the ports they use. It's just plain stupid. At least they finally started using USB ports. But about the only thing left using those USB-B are printers. Why in the world use DVI ports for the monitor connections. Those are obsolete and rarely seen anymore. Come on guys, get into the 21st century. Hopefully they're supply that DVI cable with the radios but somehow I doubt it. And while we're at it get rid of the DIN connectors on the radios. Absolutely no reason for them in the 21st century.
How do I d/c RTTY
Thank you for your video tour. I use the HRD sliders to quickly change TX power when using my MFJ Mag Loop. Low power when running. Higher power when transmitting. A lot quicker than control on my IC-7100.
Pair it with an SDR. BINGO!
Get rid of that music, or turn it down
I got stuck because my port was not showing un the device manager! Click Show hidden devices in the View menu and it'll show up in the device manager!
Im looking into getting an 891. Thank you for the informative video.
Ts990s then you picture the 890 ?
