Announcement:
I’m getting ready to start a new series of videos that will go through all of my Yaesu rigs (FT-891, FT-991A, FT-710, FT-DX10, and FT-DX101MP) and going over a bunch of modes (Digital, FT8/FT4, JS8Call, WinLink, VarAC, GridTracker, N3FJP-ALC, Audio Modes, CW Setup, RTTY Setup, FLDigi, RT-Systems, and more) - This is around 75 individual videos and I’m hoping it takes less than a year. I’ll also be doing a few other videos along the way. I’ll be starting with the 891, but will have others tossed into the mix as I go along. Wich me luck and let me know if there’s something you want covered.

Taking the ham clock in a new direction. Specifically we're going out of this world and looking at an extraterrestrial exploration focusing on the sun and all things solar, that the ham plot can display. Also, apologies for not putting something out sooner. I’ve been under the weather, but I’m feeling better now. One more HamClock video, then back to setup videos for all my Yaesu Rigs, using al...

What is ALC? Where should I set it? And why...
มุมมอง 1.2K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
The ALC limits the output power, protecting your rig from over-power and over-heating, especially in the Final Amplifier circuit. It does this by applying a bias voltage to the input signal, essentially clamping down on your signal as it is increased. As you increase the input signal, the more ALC voltage, as displayed on your ALC meter, will be applied. The trick is to find the balance between...

Great jobb ! 😀
Should we have the WSJT-x Setting Rig: set to Ham Radio Deluxe OR Icom IC-7300?
Ic-7300 or your rig
This video is perfect! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Wouldn't it be better to use a center speaker (which is designed for movie dialogues) from a home theater system? (a decent speaker in a wooden enclosure, etc.). Instead of yaesu speaker. Center is cheap and has way bigger speakers.
A couple of points…. First, we’re not dealing with high fidelity, complex sounds. So any speaker will do for the basic voice audio. Second, only the Yaesu speaker made for the 710 has the internal circuitry to do the AESS function. That said, if all you need is a front facing speaker, then whatever you use will work. I use an old radio shack CB speaker on my 891 and it does the job for that rig.
Great informative video. I downloaded the software today for my 991A and your video made it easy. Thank you!
Correction for you fcc not the faa for the licensing fee. Great video
I would like to know to adjust ALC on FTDX10
Not sure why but this setting do t work for me I've tried an alternate creator and that seem to work. What am I doing wrong
Thanks Tom for taking the time to make this very informative video ,it has helped tremendously in getting my radio up and running successfully.
I was told by a board member of the Clark county Ohio Amateur Radio club that you live near us. Thanks for the videos, I am a new ham and I have the FT-991a. I am a subscriber and have watched a couple of your videos and plan to watch more.
On November 19 Michael announced that he is closing shop due to the pancreatic cancer he has been fighting spreading to his lungs. He could use some prayers for those so inclined.
Is there a way to export out a csv or excel file of all the menu settings?
Dear Tom. Thankyou for the informative video. Unfortunately, when I expand my call roster, I cannot find a "more Controls". It is very difficult to see your curser as it is beneath the video label that youtube adds. Bob ve3obo
Tom, I am amazed that others haven't found your channel. I have learned a lot about WSJTx from you. N7OMI
I have followed every instruction several times but still no joy. Is there a common error that people are making? I cannot think of what to try next. All three programs are working fine but when I make a contact in wsjtx and save the log entry, it does not appear in hrd logger. Bob ve3obo
Excellent instructional video Tom, again great presentation, using my FTDX10 setup with my Microham USB Keyer 3 to work with Log4Om 2 Ver 2.34.0.0 testing with dummy load and logs QSO, plus the Microham Keyer 3 also transmits it's own CW messages on testing as well which is another Bonus, kudos to you Tom for the video.. regards Greeting from England 73 M0MGX
Terrific video 73 from kb2uew
These settings for GT, LOG4OM and WSJTX are not working with HamClock for WSJTX setup. Can you suggest some port changes to accommodate HamClock please?
I received a free Yaesu Ft-710aess. The owner never claimed it after he dropped it off for me to check out if it was damaged. The issue must have been with his power supply or antenna. The radio is flawless. I downloaded a freeware version of Hamradio Deluxe and set it up in a junk computer. With minimal effort, I am receiving all digital modes, receiving voice mode from 30Khz to 75Mhz, and I am even learning Morse code telegraphy. I really enjoy listening to the radio. But, I can not transmit on it, except for the lowFER, MidFER, and HighFER, frequencies, which I do not have an adequate antenna to be able to use. Unfortunately, the entry level license only allows transmissions on part of 10 metres for AM/FM/SSB voice and all digital modes. Then there are some token CW band fragments on 15, 40, and 80 metre bands. Thus, I do not bother. But, I love listening. It is truly an amazing radio for just listening on a very long wire. I renamed the USB audio device and USB microphone device to say, "Yaesu speaker," and, "Yaesu microphone." This simplified things a lot, as long as I plug into the same USB computer port every time.
Thnx, comes in very handy 😀
This video was very helpful. Thank you
Would you be willing to share a screen shot of your Settings > Colors tab of WSJTX? I really like the simplicity of how yours look but I am not sure how to make those changes. Thanks.
Hello Tom! I have IC-756 PRO2 and Log4Om (latest version) on my PC. CAT/Omnirig forks fine with one small exception and it is: - Having radio on filer position on FIL1 - switching frequency from PC it changes (always!) onto FIL2 regardless of band position. Was looking around for a reason but cannot find and possible solution, wonder if you have one. Thanks 73!
This is a super video…a tour de force summary explanation with enough depth to be very useful. Thank you!
Very grateful for this great review. Thank you! A quick newbie question if I may. Why would one want an external keyer when there’s a keyer onboard the rig? Thanks again. Rick KJ7JKR
Hello, Watched your videos on Gridtracker. At one time my screen would show by an arrow traveling across my screen to the station I was trying to contact that has gone away. What do I turn on to get those arrows back. Thank you. KD6/NKD. John
KO4ZCJ; GREAT JUST WHAT I NEEDED, THANKS. I ALSO GOT A “Jelanry 1/4" 6.35mm Stereo Plug Male to Dual 1/4" 6.35mm Jack Female Splitter Adapter, Dual 6.5mm Jack Adapter Audio Y Cable”from Amazon to use a foot switch when I want to,!
Very helpful video. I'm new to FT8 and have more questions than answers right now. Here's a dumb question for you. I'm in the USA and sometimes I see a station from, let's say Europe, calling CQ DX. Will they consider a US station dx or are they looking for other countries? Dumb question but one I've never really known the answer to.
Will I need a dedicated monitor for HamClock ?
Yes. The HamClock has an HDMI connection that provides FHD to many monitors available for $50-100 plus.
You go through the settings way to fast I can’t keep up
You do have a pause button…. Hihi
Great video Tom. I got the Winkeyer setup tonight thanks to your video. Thanks, Jim
Hey Tom, need to update this for v2, the setting are changed around
Getting there… thanks
I appreciate the info, thanks!
I had an FT-891 for portable. Then stopped going portable. Sold it, regret doing that. Would like one for mobile now. Have a FT-710 now and love it. Still want another 891. There are a couple good facebook groups for the 891 also. Good video!
Hi Tom, After downloading the driver into my laptop, I am only finding one listing for Silicon Labs. The standard and enhanced drivers you show on your computer are not found on my device manager. Do I need to have the computer and radio connected to each other before I see enhanced and standard drivers show up in device manager? Thank you! Bill, KC3RMV
As soon as you connect your computer to the 991A, you should see the drivers populate on your device manager.
i just unboxed my ft991a and thanks for the help setting it up!
Greetings Tom , I am new to ham and a dummy apparently . I have a question please . I have a Yaesu 991A and need an antenna for the uhf/vhf .What is the type of connector on the back for the antenna . I am running into all kinds ( n,239 ect )while researcing for an antenna . what am I looking for as far as the connector . Please help me out .
PL-259
Many thanks
Thanks, Tom. I keep waffling on fitting one of these into my portable lifestyle. This helps....I think! 😁
Once again, you save the day. Thanks!
Great video sir thank you✌️✅
you haven't updated to 4.09 ? They add On The Air pane. I have it set to only show pota and sota activations via filters pretty neat. I've also set it up with flrig to control my 991a via the network so when I click on a DX cluster call (not new functionality) or a On The Air call sign and it will switch the radio to the freq they are on.
can two operators use the program, is there a way to pull the log for one HAM then change back and forth? Or would someone need to go in and change settings every time? Thanks
Hi Tom! This is a great video. I followed your settings for the FT-991A and JS8Call and it worked fabulously! Thanks for sharing!
2:35 I noticed that your menus stay on for a long time while mine disappear in 2-3seconds, how can I get my menu time adjusted? Thanks. WP4TGK D. C.
i accidently discovered NB when long-pressed also has a variable adj like DNR.

Thanks Tom! Very helpful explanation. Worked perfectly!
I can't tell you how helpful this video was... Thanks!
wow, thanks. i think this rig is for me..
