      You have to have a Philippine phone number to get Gcash. And it's not always the most reliable app here. Many times it's off line and doesn't work at different restaurants or stores.

    No mention of the bathrooms?? That was easily the biggest adjustment for me, and surely many others too. Unless you're only going to be in places that cater to Westerners the facilities are basic if not downright primitive by Western standards! First-timers should do an online search to find out about both showering and using the toilet (and lack of toilet paper in most places, which would block the drains). They call the bathrooms "CR", that's an abbreviation for "comfort room".

    I thought I was used to geckos as they are very common in my old country too - but when one fell onto my leg as I was about to fall sleep one night, my yelp of surprise startled my entire host family. They've never let me forget it!!

    Good video, sir! My wife, step sons, and extended family all live in the Philippines 🇵🇭- Leyte province and Metro Manila. You are spot on. My hope is to finish my career in the States and then retire overseas to be with my family there. My wife and I were married sacramentally in the Catholic Church of the Philippines 🇵🇭 6 years ago. My wife visited the USA 🇺🇸 but didn’t like it. We agreed to let her go home while I keep working toward retirement in a few more years. I plan to have a little over $2,000 per month in retirement income and a size-able savings account once I do retire. We already own our own house in the province. In the meantime, I visit the Philippines 🇵🇭 as my budget allows. My wife is a province girl originally. The best wives are from the provinces, gentlemen… even if they have to live or work in Manila or Cebu. 😊😊😊. P.S. If you think it is easy to retire in the States or the West, think again…. 😂😂😂

    also depends on your location and if you are married or single which determines whether you are in a rental or own , my wife and I own our house so that gets rid of rent , so really if you have good padding to be able to buy a home, $1200 is feasible but again it depends , our house is in apalit pampanga under camilia housing so its a nice area , now again if you are single , your expenses may be what JJ is saying ..different lifestyles drive your living expense so keep that in mind also but most of what JJ says is pretty true , Ive been in the philippines off and on since the 80s , was there for the base closings and the resort openings where the base use to be but do your research on the laws and locations

  • @wicksbusiness
    @wicksbusiness วันที่ผ่านมา

    #1 is TRUE. I spend about 800 a month for my wife and I, BUT .... we bought property (rice field) put in a free flowing well and built a house before moving here full time about 4 years ago. We grow rice, raise laying chickens for eggs, have a fish pond etc, so all of that is subsidizing our 800. #3 It depends Where and what you eat of course. The majority of the food we eat is FRESH, not processed and full of flavor. Just make good choices and you'll be fine. #8 A lot of OFW (overseas workers) are smart, save money from working overseas and then return back and invest in land and business and then they are set. I even recommend that to some of them here. They can do really well when they return if they plan it out. Why do you want to live in a country that has 6 months of winter, like Canada or the northern US.

    I see a very dark future for Americans in the Philippines. They're friendly enough to you with you supporting their economy but what about when we get a world depression which is coming and your retirement instantly vanishes. Being an American then in that place will be very bad.

    The airline seat pitch is measured in inches between seat rows, not degrees (in other words, how far apart are the bolts in the airplane floor for my seat versus the seat in front to me). So, a 28 inch seat pitch means you are kinda crammed in there. I know in Asia they put the seats a little closer, but the industry standard in 30 or 31 inches. Some things in Asia are tight and it's a good thing, but airline seats are not one of them! I'm not really complaining, but I feel the title of this video was a little off. You really did not touch on any issues making the PI a good home base versus other cities. You mentioned airline flights and traffic in Manila and the advantage of not having to commute from the province, but did not compare Manila to any other Asian city. This was basically a little tutorial on how to book a flight to Bangkok. You did not compare and contrast things like costs/ease of travel, visa requirements, language barriers, etc. versus living in other cities such as KL, Ho Chi Min, Hanoi, etc. I know guys have to do their own research and figure out what's best for them, but content should more closely reflect what's in the video title. keep livin' the good life! Cheers!
