Ghost Shrimp Feeding & Offspring
Feel free to ask questions or post feedback! Palaemonetes spp. paludosus, commonly called the "Glass Shrimp", "Ghost Shrimp", and "Grass Shrimp"; females berried (holding fertile eggs) as well as less than two week old shrimp offspring. In the video you will see them eating sinking shrimp pellets and unfrozen blood worms. There's even a baby shrimp eating a bit of blood worm! For more information about care, view my last shrimp video: th-cam.com/video/PfvepsTrZps/w-d-xo.html

Experimental Planted Freshwater Sump
มุมมอง 7K13 ปีที่แล้ว
First - sorry for the poor quality of video! This was an experimental setup for a freshwater sump. The goal was to filter the water through a reverse under-gravel system in the sump, which would provide nutrients to the roots of plants. This was supposed to act as a replacement for expensive substrate. It "worked" and grew plants quickly, but the larger tank should have been setup with more bio...
Texas Cichlid Spawn & Fry Development

Texas Cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus) Spawn & Fry Development. Their tank measures a pH of ~7.8 (API chemical test kit) and water temperature varies between 74-77 degrees Fahrenheit (room temperature). The two were collected from different locations along the San Marcos River (San Marcos, Texas). The fry are now being fed a varied diet to include frozen, decapsulated BBS (baby brine shrimp) ...
"Seed Shrimp" (Ostracod)
มุมมอง 12K13 ปีที่แล้ว
My video, titled "Water Fleas Daphnia pulex", was an incorrect identification of the featured specimen. Thanks to two knowledgeable people, they have been properly identified as Ostracods. "Seed Shrimp", from the taxonomic class Ostracoda, are tiny crustaceans which exist in both fresh and saltwater. Visit www.aquaticopia.com/invertebrates/ostracoda for more information.

Texas Cichlid: Breeding

Wild-caught Texas Cichlids (Herichthys cyanoguttatus) laying and fertilizing eggs on 1/19/2011. Almost all of the eggs hatched successfully. The male's dorsal fin was permanently damaged in its natural environment, probably when it was younger. The camera used was all we could find to capture this moment, and couldn't use a tripod. The next part will feature the fry hatching and becoming free s...

    ALL MY EGGS HATCHED OVERNIGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF FRY EVERYWHERE IN MY 75 GALON TANK. 2ND HATCHING - 1ST HATCHING I PUT THE FRY IN A DOUBLE NETTED FLOATING HATCHERY & SOMEHOW ALL THE FRY WERE SUCKED OUT & EATEN EITHER BY THE PARENTS OR BY THE OTHER FISH IN THE TANK. THEY NOW HAVE A TANK ALL TO THEMSELVES & THEIR BABIES. TIME WILL TELL IF THEY LIVE OR GET EATEN UP BUT IF THEY DO DISAPPEAR THIS TIME I KNOW WHO THE PREDATORS WERE. SO SO TINY. LIKE A PINHEAD

    How can I keep them from reproducing? I started out with just one that was between the plants I bought, since it was just one I didn't bother. But five days ago it started giving birth to like two baby's was still ok with that I've got quite a big tank so enough space. But today I got like at least 20 more baby's... how do I stop it? I mean i like them but I still want to enjoy my guppy's instead of a huge amount of snails.

      i know this was posted a long time ago but i had the same problem. had a bladder snail come in with a shipment of marimo balls. i kept him in my tank and named him gary. once he got older he started reproducing like crazy. i bought a cheap 1 gallon tank that came with light +filter, put a few floating plants in there and put gary and all of his little babies in there. now i have hundreds and hundreds of little snails. they're so much fun to watch and easy to maintain

      Snails wont eat live plants at all, if you see them doing so it is most likely because the leaves are dying and it hasnt shown yet. This is typical for plants that are just acclimating and are melting back

    • @isaacpark2125
      @isaacpark2125 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +minhaz shaon introduce some black skirt tetras. tetras have the proper jaw structure to eat ostracods despite their thin calcite shells. the sailfin tetra is the preferred species as this tetra's natural diet is ostracods, but not all fish stores stock them.

  • @uwantigot_rl3432
    @uwantigot_rl3432 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    So how would u get these things in ur tank to begin with..? Is it like planeria worms? Harmless but.. good? (Dnt even knw if u would consider as a good thing;))

    • @isaacpark2125
      @isaacpark2125 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Uwant?iGot_RL👍 they exist in virutally all aquatic environments. chances are, eggs attached to a plant, or they were introduced through a fish, since roughly 25% of ostracods consumed by fish that lack the jaw structure to chew them will survive the digestive tract and be passed relatively unharmed through fish feces. if you pick up pebbles, detritus, or sediment from a dry lake bed they could contain dried eggs, which can survive a decade or two out of the water.

    I really like this video! I've kept the same 6 ghosts in my tank (that sounds odd....) along with a veiltail gold, a black moor, a black molly, three lyre-tail guppies (two gals and a guy), and five platys (platies?) in the same (LARGE) tank for well over two years, now. They all seem happy in this little community/ecosystem. So far, there have been no orders for shrimp cocktail. All is good with the pH, nitrites/nitrates...although I have some difficulty with the calcium hardness (thank you, California!). I've noticed that I have two females who are full of little ones. Do they need some nesting? There are NUMEROUS places for them to hide, so....

    Ew these little seed things are floating on the top of my water. I thought they were some kind of eggs. I netted some and left the net dangling in the water and noticed they're swimming! They look like little fleas, I don't want them in there! I think it's from overfeeding shrimp pellets.

      brandonlasvegas in my experience ghost shrimp are terrible at controlling algae. if you are looking for shrimp that love algae, I'd probably go with amano shrimp. Cherry shrimp are also pretty voracious when it comes to algae, one hungry female can easily clear a square inch of algae per day and they also love dead plant matter, which is good when you have a plant thats melting back in your aquarium.
