loved the video! i thought the list was interesting, and i definitely wasn't expecting as many retro games to garner such a high ranking. i'll check a few out and thank you for posting!
Yk i think there were a few times where i found it easier to just be baby mario and luigi and not have their adult counterparts. Not a lot but it still was the case a few times
Lmao I turned this off, at 48 and 47, don’t even need to see more. That goes beyond having a bad opinion, and just being wrong.
I really like these types of videos. You inspired me to play some of the games from this list. One question, do you play the jrpgs with eng voice acting or jp voice acting?
im wondering why aria of sorrow was only 6/10. its one of my favorite games ever edit: also what was ur emerald team?
X-2 over X is a choice but everything Yuna is great. Persona 3 was already on my to play list but your review may have moved it up a few places.
I respect the hot takes. Not enough of those on TH-cam. Almost every list video are the same 10 - 15 games over and over and over ...
Super Mario Land over Super Mario 64 👀wild
50games in 1 year with that many of them being RPG's is impressive. your # 1 is one of my favorite games of all time but giving Mario 64 a 3 out of 10 is a crime
I can't believe that mario & luigi paper jam wasn't number one
damn i was locked in this entire video, goated list of games!!! been thinking about buying okami since its only 5 bucks on steam, but now it's definitely happening the dragon quest glaze is crazy but i'll take your word on it have a merry christmas!!!
Great video! WOW surprised me with number 1 I have so many games series I need to give a try including your number 1 spot. You got me he so hyped to play DQ3 remake! If you don’t have it already I have to give you my copy of DQ11!
Glad to see you back. Those Mario 64 & Pokemon Emerald scores are crazyyyy imo. Great video either way 👍 Loved the editing style too!
I disagree. I think Mario & Luigi Brothership deserves a 9/10. Because since it's the first M&L for 5 WHOLE years!
I'm so glad you pointed out people bitching about Luigi. Using him in this way with him branching off is a really intuitive way to make new puzzles, and the puzzle system was definitely getting repetitive, it's a welcome change. I am surprised you didn't talk about the performance issues though, that was easily the worst part of the game for me. Glad to see you uploading again tho
I’ve actually seen inconsistency regarding the performance complaints, I played on a day 1 release switch and didn’t notice anything, I’ve seen people say they have issues only on handheld some only on docked, just kind of hard to determine what is actually true about the problems. And also switch 2 might just be a fix who knows.
I have a middle-of-road view. On one hand, Paper Mario being paper isn't a bad thing at all; it can do a lot of interesting stuff (a paper Mario against someone who cuts like scissors is quite awesome). On the other hand, using that as an excuse to stick with simple plots was uncalled for. Sure, Color Splash and Origami King are reasonably effective with their simple stories (while 64 is even more so), but it puts a hard cap on how good they can be.
An interesting tidbit is that the 3DS remake is based on the Japanese version.
I forgive you
Mario casualy launching a super nova:
Incorrect
Not possible without Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.
HAHA 2 LUIG 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I never ran into this, because I wasn't silly enough to waste a bros attack on the pillars.
I knew the mush badge would have been part of this
This game not being worth your time/$$ is a legit argument if you find it mediocre or only slightly above average. unless playing 5 hours of video games a day is a regular occurence(like you said you did). i don't think this game is awful by any means, but it fails to give me a reason to jump in when I can put my gaming time and $$ towards playing(or replaying) Thousand Year door, Mario RPG, Paper Mario 64, Wind Waker, as well as like 100 games on the switch that seem way more appealing it definitely impacts my decision. everyone has an endless backlog for a reason, theres just not enough time to go around and it jut doesn't make much sense to put it on something that you find mediocre. Now for some people this game obviously isn't that and for them it's worth it, but imo even for the people that like Brothership, noone is puting it in a league with some of those others i mentioned that much more people would label "can't miss" titles. Enjoyed the video regardless. 😅👍
Wrong. The darkest Mario game is definitely SPM
When I played this game I was just a kid and I didnt even know english (it is not my country's language), so I barely realized how dark this game is, I would mostly focus on the exploration and battles, but I noticed it in Toad Town when I saw the town destroyed as that sad music played. I did notice how hard the game was, tho. I remember struggling a lot in my first playthrough
I still think the remakes were treated too harshly. Especially BIS. The fact that the most recent entry in the series had been the painfully sanitized Paper Jam, and Mario RPGs outside Dream Team were generally always sanitized in the 2010s, made the fact that the two best games in the series were getting remade insanely hype, even if they got a small degree of sanitization in the less important NPCs. I still don't get why everyone else was like "ehhh who cares if good Mario RPGs are back, it's on 3DS therefore glass half empty, pass" They are flawed but i was so happy to see my two favorite entries in the modern visual style at the time. Suddenly Dream Team wasn't the only modern Mario RPG i cared about. So as far as I'm concerned the only 3DS M&L that deserved to be unpopular was Paper Jam. The M&L remakes could have been the renaissance of Mario RPGs but instead we stuck our noses up at them and made it so that renaissance had to wait until 2023.
Still, it is just over half health for Curlup R.
Didn’t do anything wrong but it didn’t really do much *great* It’s just as good as PiT but doesn’t hit the highs of BIS and SS
The shroobs also aren't afraid to mock or taunt when you fail. When you fail you shoot down the ship and you get shot down they laugh in joy that you lost
And fu about DTB, too.
HEY! its a good game, fu
WHERE IS THE BOSS/MINIGAME ARENA
Agree on all the points. The lack of content for veteran players or options for a higher difficulty where the new gear and triple attacks can shine makes this a lackluster remake.
Did you purposely cut out the IGN logo perfectly hitting the lower left corner while it was bouncing around
Making Luigi pick moves with the A button IS a big deal! I was near the end of the game and it STILL messed me up, because Luigi JUMPS against the attack block when you press the button, and throughout the entire game you are being conditioned to make Luigi jump with the B button. So your brain thinks your thumb is on the right button, but it's not, so you fail the action command. It was genuinely aggravating and there's no reason they couldn't have added a setting to revert it back to the original controls.
For me its a 8,5 rating
Oooooook to me if I was making a tier list of all the Mario and Luigi's BIS is still S tier, but Brothership and Superstar Saga are A tier though up to you if you think Brothership is better than Superstar Saga (Partners in Crime is B, Dream Team C, and Paper Jam is F) i agree with you that the complaint about the tutorials is a little BS they are quick pop-ups you can mash through and if you need a refresher it's in the menu for you to go back to, I love alot of the characters in this game they have great simple designs and memorable personalities, but I will say I agree with the criticisms with Loogi instead of feeling like Mario and Luigi, Luigi he feels more like a Paper Mario partner. plus I will admit that floor panel puzzle i did struggle with but not there it was in the final dungeon in game but to be fair it makes for me to struggle at the very end of the game its suppose to be difficult. I did feel like I lost track of the story but keep in mind I personally did a full 100% meaning all side quests, all challenges, visiting every island, and yeah there are some days I took off cause I had stuff going on in my life but while I do like the world building I do feel like there are a tiny bit too many side quests. comparing this game to the Paper Mario series is completely not fair Mario and Luigi series is a completely different series from Paper Mario. I do have complaints about this game but those opinions are mine I hate how there is 0 way for you to rechallenge bosses in a Gauntlet that has been a series stample since BIS and personally I feel like the music for this game could be better there isn't a single ear worm tune in this game there is great music to put in the background but nothing really sticks in your head and plays on repeat unlike the first 4 games in the series who all have fantastic OST's Brothership it's okay not bad but not great either (also 0 post game) so that's why personally I say this is a solid A tier entry imo but like I said it's up to you if it's better than Superstar Saga
I think the story ends up being very good (if tropey lol) once you are making headway through the game, but one criticism I see that I absolutely agree with is that the actual stakes take far too long to feel tangible. It absolutely sucks to not see a single glimpse of any real antagonist until way into the first sea, which coupled with the slow gameplay pacing makes things feel incredibly aimless early on.
Good game, took too long to get good, sidequests are not worth the reward, being unable to recharge plugs without emptying them completely sucks and discourages use when you have to save them for later. No real purpose to 100% the game. no post game means the game just ends when it ends. why were all the lighthouse bosses just pill shaped blobs with eyes inside their mouth? (not a serious criticism but aint it weird?) battles hard carry this game, but again it takes until your first plug before it even gets interesting. The split choices in the story give good replay value but its mostly just going to be a straight shot to the end after your first run, there's not much to see. If someone asked me if brothership was worth getting, i'd say kinda, not really (if you're a M&L fan you'll still enjoy it). I wouldn't even say go to ttyd. I'd say play bug fables instead. After finishing brothership im already craving bug fables again.
banger video! i've never played a mario and luigi game before so i lowk can't say anything substantial, but watching you play this game live was very entertaining, and the bros attacks, enemy variety, and the characters in this game were awesome as far as i could tell :) ddr mario mix video when???
What has 2 Luigis???
This was my first ever RPG and the difficulty along with the somber story definitely had me wallowing in despair when I was 7.
WELCOME BACK BOSSMAN
The reason menuing for Luigi was switched to the A button was because you can now adjust battle plugs during battles, which is a whole different styled menu and would be more confusing to confirm with B when you have Luigi. At first, I didn't like it because it seemed like a change made for no reason, but because of this, I am more accepting of it. However, I know this sounds stupid, but if the game was developed for a 3DS-like console with two screens, this could have been a touch screen system. I think Paper Jam might have had something like that. That's what I am reminded of at least.
Feels like some people are being unecessarily hard on brothership. Is it flawed? Yeah, but its strenghts far outwheight its issues.
What would you identify as strengths? It looks nice but the gameplay is super repetitive and the story/characters are weak compared to superstar saga and bis
@@plooper14 the story and characters are ABSOLUTELY much better than the mentioned games, both of these have like 2 good original characters each, Brothership has much more
@plooper14 boss fights are better than anything in superstar saga for one
I agree, and I feel the exact same way about Dream Team (the latter of which is my favourite game in the franchise as a whole). I beat BrSh (Brothership) today, and I really like it. Sure, it has some issues, like the pacing, but it's quite fun overall. A bit too long for my liking (at least in a 100% run), but I still enjoyed it. I definitely want to replay it some time in the near future. I can understand why people might not like it, but I feel like it's best to go into the game with no expectations and to try not to compare it to other games.
@@plooper14 I second this. On its own I love the combat but from my 46-hour playthrough it was way more repetitive compared to the past games. The bosses were very evidently the best designed of the series, but there are HALF the number of bosses in Brothership than there are in BIS, in a game that is DOUBLE the length of BIS. Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot, but sadly I don't think even its best aspects could've made the game's abysmal and repetitive pacing better for me. Also, something that hurt the game way more than I expected was the music, not having bangers from Shimomura playing all the time was really messing with me during my playthrough.
I love Brothership, and I agree with almost everything you had to say. But I don’t completely agree with your points about Luigi. The point was never that you could play AS Luigi. It was that you were controlling both brothers at the same time. People like to say that the platforming was “annoying” in the older games, but I always felt that trying to clear jumps with both brothers was what made it unique. The Mario franchise already has 2 other examples of turn-based RPGS, both with similar styles of platforming. Controlling both bros. at the same time set it apart, and highlighted that the focus of this series was these two working together to overcome obstacles. So it was disappointing (and quite ironic) that the game all about connecting and working together was the one that really pared that back, and made it feel like you’re only controlling one character, with a little helper who ran off and did stuff on his own.
_M & L: Brothership_ is a LEGENDARILY GOOD J-RPG in the „Marioverse“, especially when you’re out of the bubble since M&L 1. Except probably _Dream Team Bros._ NO other in the series than SS would have been really worthy to be played (since B‘sIS‘ concept is WAY too weird [to not say: disgusting]!)! I’ve spent 100 (!!) hours to COMPLETELY finish BS (lol)! The all-overly present mediocre and BAD reviews for it just derive from people who wasted the last 20 years of playing bad Nintendo games, instead of taking a long time-off to use the evolutionary momentum for the important global spiritual evolution that took place. Nintendo hasn’t been really playworthy since _GameCube_ until the release of the _Nintendo Switch_ . _Paper Mario: The Origami King_ was the only good PM-game since _SPM_ (Wii), well over ten years before. Due to the lack of necessary spiritual evolution in the by-passed 1-2 decades, all these IGN- and other computer-nerd -reviewers developed a big misconception of reality and absolute negativity, that renders them UNABLE to review a happy and extremely timely game-experience (nodding to the „glohminizated“ characters who probably refer to the *Black Goo* vaxinated aggressive super-negative people that swarm or culture these days, as well as the beginning of the VR-inception that’ll take a vast majority of unready people out of real-life)! The game HAS some flaws, like the too less seriousness and terrificness of the antagonistic trio or the lack of a boss-fight at the end of the darkness island, where it instead turns into a lame father-son schmaltzy romance, as well as the lack of FOUR full islands in the last to oceans (which would have easily made it to a 160-hours experience for me), but it IS overall a GREAT adventure with flawless game-design and mechanics, going from one quest to the next, incorporating a GREAT fantasy-world and fascinating story.
