Nice selection of patterns available from a wide range of sources- helpful! Good tips as well.

I am actually hoping to cut out a quilted jacket this week. Before Christmas i bought a metre of quilted outdoor coating fabric with the idea to make my dog a coat. While looking at the fabric a few days later I decided it was too nice (and expensive) for Archie, the dog, and decided I want a coat instead. I'm going back to the fabric store today with a 25% off coupon to get just enough fabric for a jacket. The fabric is navy with tiny bright turquoise and pink reflective stars and dots. The quilted pattern is heart shapes so definitely a one way pattern. I have a New Look pattern, probably from the 80's or 90's a popover jacket with a front yoke and zipper. I usually sew the binding on by machine on one side, then finish the other side with hand stitching so that there aren't any stitch lines visible. It does take longer, but I like the look, and enjoy hand sewing. I love the patterns you have found, I want to take a closer look at a few.

This video is so timely! I cut out the Cheryl Jacket yesterday and am about to start putting it al together, my first quilting attempt. Thankful for the tips. I’d size down on the Cheryl for sure. It’s huge.

Hiya thank u so much for doing this video for us 😁 I’ve been waiting to do a quilted jacket for ages now but I’ve never done any quilting before 😬 ur tip for a walking foot is great but is it universal or do u need one specific for the machine ur using plzz?? & also u say u’ve put the links in the description but when u click ‘more’ after the fibermood Marcia jacket it doesn’t come up with any more links it just takes ya to the fibermood Marcia Jacket pattern 😞 so I can’t find any of the other links 🤔 I don’t no if it’s just me (I’m on my iPhone 📱) or if anyone else has the same problem 🤔 but thank u so much for doing this great video for us 😁xx

My eye is drawn to the Vicki Sews jacket! Very cute. I wonder has anyone used one of her patterns? I love almost all of them but feel just a little intimidated.

This is so helpful. Thank you. Hearing your suggestions on what to make with specific fabrics and more information on fabric weights would help us when ordering online. For example momme for silk and other weight indicators for fabrics like wool or cotton or crepe. Also there is so much variation in fabric quality.. how to be a savvy shopper . I greatly appreciate your vlogs.

I loved Biba. I’m 73 and it was my era. I used to go into london to Biba regularly, on my afternoon off, and I bought so much, as you really couldn’t help it. Suede pink boots, pink trouser suits, stunning dresses too. One day, I was browsing in there, and I looked up, and Nina Simone was standing beside me! The place was fantastic, and a huge step up from Topshop and Dorothy Perkins! In the 60s and 70s, there were very few shops for young girls to shop, it was so limited. There was also a shop called Mexicana just off Sloane Square that sold beautiful mexican lace clothes. You would have loved it Rachel. Thank you for this video!

You look great in all your makes! I don’t wear pencil skirts anymore because I can’t wear high heels now i’m older, but I would have loved the lace one 20 years ago! Very clever. I also love the coat, really good. You look wonderful in the sequin jumpsuit, too. I just need to start sewing… I don’t know what’s holding me back. It’s like a blank page when I’m painting, way too scary!😂

Watching this in January 2025, but love many of these for the spring and summer to come. A few of them look easy enough for me! Loving your channel. The fabric of the striped trousers is particularly fab, do you remember what it is? I’m not sure of different fabrics, weights, stretchiness etc, so would love to know please. Thank you so much.

I really enjoyed this. Normally I make a lot of basics - tops, trousers etc. However, I have just been invited to a big Indian wedding that I know will be dripping in bling, so I am going to have to make something nice to wear (and am panicking as it is outside my comfort zone), but you have definitely given me some ideas. Your coat is stunning too. I love the large lapels.

Hi Rachel, Did you ever do a part 3? I went down this Road in the Autumn of 2023 and it was a total disaster (after spending many, many hours of hand sewing) The main problem was the 3 part sleeve (an Alison Smith pattern) - it needed to be just so much bigger in the wool tweed along with lining and all the other add ons for "couture tailoring". It's one of the rare items I've virtually binned - though I did make a nice bag out of the surplus cloth... I would love to see what happened to yours. After that I made the Freddie by Bella loves. Much better but I've decided the style doesn't suit me - I also have a non existent waistline so these jackets seem to make me look like a barrel, even over a dress.

I'm loving your videos and I watched all of this one even though I've sellotaped hundreds of patterns together. That camisole is beautiful! I went on her website and thought it was the nicest garment in her collection - you wonder why she's giving it away for free - anyway I'm on her mailing list now. I've also decided to start tracing off my favourite patterns onto the spot and cross paper (along with my alterations), you're right, it's a really good habit.

This blog post came at just the right time. I recently watched the makers' vlog about the Etty and added it to my sewing list. Today, I took my first steps toward creating my own pattern for pajama pants, using a pair I already have as a guide. Before diving into my fabric, I decided to make a draft from an old bedsheet. The pajama pants are in a pink floral pattern, and I found myself hesitant to draw too closely to the fabric to avoid an accidental stain-my first mistake. As I started cutting, I was overly cautious to avoid cutting my pattern piece. That was mistake number two. While my pieces aren’t as neatly drafted or cut as I had hoped, I’m determined to push through and keep going😅

I love the Lindsay Legacy print, the dark blue background with large pale blue and white blossoms. I'll keep an eye out for it. We don't get a lot of Liberty fabrics where I live, but they really stand out among others wherever they are carried.

Excellent instructions, I recently downloaded loaded a GGS Bee pattern and there’s no instructions on how to insert the zip and j can’t tell if it a hidden zip or a closed zip. The back of the tunic pattern is not clear.

Really great explanation. I also use my sliding glass door as a light box when I want to trace off something. I darken my size line then it’s easier to see.

Fabulous video. I wasn’t aware it was such a big anniversary. I am visiting next month so will relish seeing the new fabrics. My maternal grandmother trained as a dressmaker at Liberty. I’m guessing this was in the early 20s. Her sister trained as a Milner also at Liberty.

Great video, I was a bit shocked you didn't use the layer map. This pattern is simple, but patterns with lot sizes I find all those extra lines to be confusing. I usually print 2 or 3 sizes I might need to grade between. I just had a bunch of coffee shop, large format done and also asked them to print only 3 sizes.

I really wish I could bring myself to like the Liberty prints more. I love the tana lawn fabric, but find the scale of the prints just too small and fussy and old-fashioned. They do produce larger scales from time to time, but most often there is something 'off' about them. I have sewn shortie pyjamas from the Tana lawn and they are lovely to wear in summer. I'll keep looking.

Goodness me you are looking good for your age if you remember visiting a pre 1929 building with your Mum. I am a 50s baby and only ever remember visiting the current building.

I got to go to Liberty in 2023! It was a dream come true to see the beautiful building, the amazing displays, and the fabulous fabric department. I splurged and bought some, but I have not had the heart to cut it yet--I just love admiring it. We even got to have tea in the tea room and I had delicious carrot cake. I am so thankful I got to experience it for myself and I appreciate your video that brought back my happy memories!

Thankyou very much for this video! I loved your tour of Liberty, I went there in the 80s when I was a young history student and fell in love with arts and crafts movement and the prints. Many years later, Im a grandmother who has spent most of my life living aboad, and I 'm still hoarding some precious Liberty tana lawn in a tissue lined Liberty box! It was quite an indulgent buy at the time! I ve have used most of it, but just enjoy looking at the beautiful colours and prints. Maybe I'll buy the book and finally use the rest in a baby quilt!

I love your artistic sense. In 2025 might you periodically focus on less than the perfect model shape. You have a lovely shape, but many who love your technical expertise do not.
