Thanks again for a really interesting video. As I live in the cotswolds and don’t get into london nearly often enough, it’s so good to see what’s going on trend wise. I’m a little late watching this, but it still works! Great ideas. Now to find shops over this way, that stock lovely fabrics.
I really enjoy your videos and your style. I am nearly 80 and continue to sew and follow trends. I had a trip to Walthamstow the other week. What a revelation. 😊😊😊
Hi chick, I've only just found your channel, Its so refreshing to see my age group and style garments talked about and I look forward to seeing what you make too! If I still lived in the UK I'd loved to of met up with youuuuuu. I was born a Hertfordshire girl, your accent is so homely to me ;) All the best for your channel x
Really enjoyed this video. I loved vicariously shopping in London with you. I've finally come round to liking leopard print and I look forward to seeing your straight leg jeans!
Great video. Very extensive. I wouldn't imagine the current color palette has any political references. These colors were prob decided a year ago. We just feel a connection to it.
Thank you for the work you put into this video. Trends videos are always interesting although I wouldn’t classify myself as trendy. Have you come across Trish Newbery Designs? She has some unique designs, Amber’s Capelet Hoodie for example.
Love, love your research and seeing the beautiful stores especially as I cannot get to London these days. . Great pattern choices too. You help me make sense of all the choices out there. The Ivian dress is beautiful. Thank you again. 😊 Lynne
You're spot on: outerwear is everything this year, hooray. If nothing else, your video should nudge anyone whose outerwear needs replacement to go sew or shop for a nice coat this year. In cooler climates, outerwear dictates the overall impression. A smart coat plus polished footwear can make us feel presentable even when the garments underneath fall short. Great cost-per-wear, too. It will serve beautifully for 20+ years. My cranberry red mohair cocoon coat from the 1990s still gets me compliments from strangers on the street. The somber beiges and greys may be a reflection of our chaotic time in history. Or a palate cleanser after the dopamine dressing trend. Or a cost cutting measure for manufacturers seeking to simplify their collections. Oatmeal +/- is a bit grim to me, especially in shapeless columnar outfits. But if you're lucky and your complexion blossoms against greige, this is a year to stock up on gray and beige basics - trousers, jackets and less-faddish knitwear pieces. The large unfitted column silhouette is another enigma. It's rarely figure flattering nor is it intended to be. Would anyone except an underfed 6 ft twenty-five-year-old really make it look chic? Even if tailored, like a Vikisews Ariadna (Vogue 1927 would flatter and endure over time, by comparison), it's hard to make it look intentional instead of your grandpa's suit. In anything short of luxury pricing, giant columnar clothing adds too much visual weight and risks looking cheap. So is the giant-boxy-everything a concession to comfort after pandemic loungewear has been set aside? Or ambivalence about strong declarations of gender identity? Or another way manufacturers can skimp on fitting different body sizes? Too cynical? I'm making a cropped boxy jacket though. Fun, even if it dates soon. Expensive prints are setting themselves worlds apart from affordable prints. Wow. Maybe it was always thus. But the best prints are eye candy, and I'm glad they exist for us to look at whether or not we ever get to own them. Le Smoking. Do you think the V 1927 would work, if you sized up and lengthened the hem?
Very interesting vlog and especially for those of us who can’t get to London so often. I love the Vogue V1921 and the tie front vest in particular. Interestingly I recently bought from a charity a lovely very long black Jigsaw coat in a tuxedo style - I just liked it and hadn’t realised this was ‘a thing’! Looking for a cinched in quilted jacket pattern atm after making the Hovea, which completely drowned me. Would love any ideas if possible. Thanks as ever, Rachael - much appreciated! ❤
Thanks v much, enjoyable. Fashion is a huge psychological influence designed to get people conforming rather than expressing their own unique creativity. That’s why I moved from being a style follower and Prada devotee to a sewer creating my own unique designs. I haven’t checked out the shops in a couple of years but my guess is that the mundane underwhelming trends are designed to psychologically prepare us for austerity and misery. It is interesting that all the trends you showed are included in my wardrobe of 20 years - the tux/smoking jacket, shaggy jacket, animal print, wide pants, tailored suits, boho and ruched dresses. Nevertheless I love style so I enjoyed your video. 🙏🏼
Hi, I'm just now catching up your with video produced 3-months ago. Regarding your desire to make a version of the Le Smoking jacket, there's a very near version of it from Burda patterns from many seasons ago I downloaded. Look through the coats (there's is a knee length version) from 2011 - 2018 and you might see it. I'll checkout my stash and send you the pattern number when I find it. The pattern is remarkably similar to the version you've displayed.
I like that fluffy VikiSews jacket too and already have a taupe cotton sherpa to make it. But, I don’t have a source (USA) for a really nice quality zipper, which I think makes this style. Anyone have a suggestion?
This is exactly what i am looking for-pattern ideas for high ends designs
What a great compilation- thanks a lot!

Thank you so much! Very interesting and helpful. I made the Viki sews dress twice now and I love it. So comfortable and flattering.
1:45: I appreciate the binding detail surrounding the lapels and front panels.

You might try mood fabrics.

Hi Kelly! thank you x
Great video on the trends, as a minimalist I am loving the palette currently but reckon it is a reflection on the state of the world right now
Hi Liz, yes I do think so too.

Great video. It was very interesting to see what is in West End at the high end. Your pattern choices were spot on.

Love the video. Still thinking about a faux fur jacket. Thank you

Loved it. If you self-draft the faux wrap skirt..... can you do a video on that? Thanks!
I love that little VikieSews fluffy jacket. Have to go out to a couple of fabric stores to see if I can find something to do it justice!!
