Intermediate Snowboarder Progression
As the East Coast condition transitions into spring weather, this might be my last run of the 2023/2024 snowboarding season. This was my first serious season of learning and I'm looking forward to continuing this progression in the next season!
Thanks to Tom and Jakub for accompanying me on some of these mountain days. I've learned a lot from them and also made some really cool memories with them as well.

After hitting the glades we needed to fulfill Jakub's wish, which is to do mogul runs. This is our first official mogul trail and lets just say there was a lot of growing pains. HOW TO TRANSFER LARGE VIDEO FILES FROM ANDROID TO PC (2020)
Are you using a mic in the video or is this audio straight out of the 360? I'm beginning my snowboard journey and want to film and talk through my process as well. The audio sounds really good while you're on the lift.
White lightening baby. Iced Coast Gnar. Embrace it and you can shred anywhere in the world
Thank you man you made my day 👏 Android is so hard to deal with
Don’t pay attention to the colors bro
I really enjoyed all your progression videos. It’s refreshing to watch some videos of a snowboarder going through the trials of getting better as opposed to the same old stuff of kids that have been snowboarding for 20 years. Here’s to the 24-25 season!
Although we you might be a little better than me what i can tell you is when you carve don't stop all the way like when you carve you are carving to much and it looks like you are losing a ton of speed and the only reason why you fell at first is because you carved to much keep the speed and little carves and you be be much better. Also take every run like a green or blue don't be scared confident is key
you live in toowoomba just like me
Nothing loads up(Im with redmi)
I've same issue 8:35 in steep slopes I just start "jumping/chatter" and loose control and go down..
If you head out West at all, please... Make sure you work your way up through greens and blues. Black/Double black out West is a LOT different than what they are calling a double black.
Biggest thing I can tell you is, stop worrying about falling. You. Are. Going. To. Fall. All of us do. If you are pushing yourself at all, you are going to fall... A lot.
yo man what board is that?
THANK YOU! Straight to the point, love it.
Hello There, how are you? I am Simone from Malaysia. Thank you for your amazing video! 😀👍🏽 My friend and I are planning to visit Auckland and Rotorua this December 2024, and we plan to rent a car to drive from Auckland to Rotorua and back. We have never driven in a foreign country before. 😅 May I ask you as to how was your driving experience in New Zealand? Are there plenty of road signs to navigate us to where we want to go so that we don't get lost? 😅 Also, we will be visiting Te Puia Maori Arts & Craft Institute, for the Maori cultural experience, would this be a "must-do" visit? And did you visit the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland? If yes, what was that experience like? 😅 I hope to hear from you. Thank you very much! 😁
Hello Simone. New Zealand drives on the left side of the road same as Malaysia. I didn't drive since my uncle drove us everywhere there. But overall, it was a smooth experience on the road. There are more roundabouts than traffic lights which is great. There are plenty of road signs and they are very clear as well. Yes I think visiting Te Pauia for the Maori cultural experience is a must. The Maori people are so kind, welcoming, and funny as well. I haven't visited Wai-O-Tapu but judging from my other experiences in Te Puia, im sure it'll be great as well. I hope you have a smooth trip to New Zealand. It's a country I fell in love with and i'm sure you will love it as well.
Hello there, good to hear from you. 😀 Thank you so much for the information! I’m so glad to know that you had a great time in New Zealand. I can’t wait (!) to visit there as well, in December, and I will definitely visit Te Puia for the Maori cultural experience too. 😁 Keep on posting your awesome videos, and thank you so much again for the heads up! 😁
thank you, very helpful!
Nice video, gr8 job Sir ❤
JUST PUT ALL YOUR WEIGHT ON THE FRONT FOOT, POINT IT DOWN AND HER ER HELL. YOU GOT IT!
Lots of good tips in the comments so I’ll just give you my two cents and my own feels for carving. When doing skidded turns I feel like my legs are doing a lot of work with my upper body doing counter rotation, overall a lot of energy is being used. When I’m carving, no matter how wide the turn or how steep the run, it feels like I’m using very little energy and the boards edge and edge radius is doing the actual turning. I’ve never surfed before but when I am carving on the snowboard it feels like what I imagine surfing feels like; knees slightly bent, and my shoulders (it looks as if my hands are pointing where I want to go) are just barely opening and closing but really it’s probably just a matter of transferring my weight from toe to heel and the pressure in my feet is equal whereas on skidded turns I feel more weight on my back foot. A good way to see what a proper carve feels like is to ride down a nice open green run and turning up hill by going from one side of the run to the other. If you do a skidded turn you won’t be able to go up hill at all but if you carve you will feel your board control where it’s headed and you’ll actually be able to go up hill. Once you experience that feeling you can then do more narrow turns (varying your turn width while carving is a skill in of itself). It’s also much easier to practice carving on a green run because you can be focused on technique without having to worry about your speed. But when you carve on steeper runs you can control your speed by doing wider turns. Good luck!
And pop your rear leg up for your switches.
Your heel side is fine my guy. And never fight the fall glide with it.
Belleayre?? That’s where I started snowboarding. Just focus on getting your runs in. I went down a black diamond my 3rd time board and there was bumps on that course. I survived lol
Not creepy. The best!. Reason why I love snowboarding during the week, specially during the week at the end of the season. Just you maybe a friend or two and the mountain!.
Nice video, looking good out there! What do you think caused your first fall? It was hard to tell without rewinding a couple times. To me it looked like leaning back too far from the board and knees not bent, during your speed check. Im on my 10th session and I try to critique and learn why I fell, out loud lol.
Lose the Duck-Foot Stance!
In Europe, we call these runs blues...
Yeah it’s like that in America too just depends what mountain range you’re at the Rocky Mountains are much less forgiving
@@masoncordischi4510 its actaully insane tho. in Canada he would be considered as a beginner still those blue runs are greens
If you will “close” your leading shoulder on toe side you won’t skid as much (eventually you will start carving) You leave your shoulder wide open instead of leaning it towards the turn
Just focus on lifting your toes but not bending at the waist; that'll lead to better heel side carving Good luck
Ok I gotchu. This is the best advice ever check it out. To carve the way you want, what’s holding you back is that right now you’re so focused on being on an edge you are forgetting to “RIDE” the edge. Try on a blue run to point your board down hill and lean like if you were on your toes or your heels. Try to do that the whole,e way down and watch how something in your brain connects. Once you are riding the edge and not forcing to speed check. You will get the carves you want
Goat Path is the top curvy run, which then leads into Lower Algonquin. This is wide and when it's groomed out it's my favorite run there. You can get some serious speed going on top of some big smooth rollers.
where is this ?
I’m always watching expert content and it’s really nice to see someone who is around my level because it’s more relatable to me. Glad to have stumbled upon you!
Gonna be going to Belleayre this weekend for some spring shredding come thru!
Great video so far! I am buying an insta360 so I can also record my riding. Normally when I do snowboard (and that speaks for myself) it's all me, the board and the mountain. I fell countless times in many different sectors of a ski center and also just under the chairlift. The fact that I do this only for my self joy allows me to kind of forget that it might be people watching and laughing or whatever. Just make it naturally to fall and rise up again so you don't have to feel embarrased when you do so. Keep up the good content!
What board are you riding?
If you're skidding a majority of your turns, you're not intermediate. Intermediate should be able to s carve turns down steep blues and hit sidehits or butter. Keep progressing and edge change early.
As an expert snowboarder it WAS actually refreshing to re-learn some tips that I forgot
Take a trip to the West Coast and keep riding, but if you do realize that you have not seen true crowding yet on a mountain. Also, backpacks can hold you back when learning, try ditching it for a day or 2. Unless you are cross country, a backpack isn't truly needed and can mess with learning weight transfer and edging.
Dude that cone had me dead 🤣 Nice riding!
Green trails really are the scariest
cool video with good commentary. I recommend learning how to ollie on a snowboard as this is a fundamental movement for progression across all aspects of snowboarding.
What ski resort is this? I live in Utah and I think we are very spoiled here . Kudos to you for staying at it while having to deal with these crappy snow conditions. 😅 Also be very careful with the rails my brother in law completely jacked his shoulder up doing these.
This is Belleayre in New York. I honestly don't think I've had a real snow day. The closest to a good day was when I went to Vermont (Mount Snow and Okemo). And yea I tread very carefully on the rails, very slow speed (even though I still hurt my shoulders a bit) haha.
Take lessons. You're never gon' get where you wanna be. You're all over the place brotha. You ride wide open and youre getting horrible "tips" from your buddies. All your turns are basically side slips and skidded. Thats level 1 riding techniques that youre not doing correctly. You have no business being on a blackie and definitely not in a park. You side slipping down a blackie ruins the trail people that can actually ride. Go get real lessons and learn to actually ride and link real turns. Can you get top to bottom? Sure. But what's your quality of ride? Your video shows not good and making basic level 1 mistakes. Take lessons! Support your local snowboard instructor! Theres a reason why we instruct and coach for a living!
Super inspiring! What music have you used for this video?
Thank you! And I just used the music from TH-cam Music Library since it avoids copyright issues.
Yo thanks for the tips I learned it when I went last week (2nd day-4th day)
You think to much😉
And if you want to progress you have too ride more technical terrain🏂
You need to get better on your heel side turn😉 don’t be scared too lean back!
Yea I was thinking that too, since I wasn't digging as much as I want in the snow. Ill try it next time! Thank you!
Dope video, Im a beginner tbh but Ive been trying to check out Belleayre since Im not too far
Great job progressing man. Ditching the backpack to progress is a lot of help. I have a backpack too, but when I’m seriously trying to progress or I’m in a “learning application” process, I ditch my small profile backpack and focus on my body position. It throws your center of gravity by a great deal. I just recently got comfortable riding in the 30s too. Staying on your edge while gaining speed is 🔑. Thanks for the upload, so relatable since I’m just progressing into getting confident in black diamonds too.
Yea the backpack was only used to hold my water bottle and snacks haha. I just learned to hydrate before and during lunch. Thanks again for watching and lets keep practicing!
It’s been a great first season! Come to big snow to keep practicing. Keep the progression vids coming!
Thank you! I was actually thinking that but well see.
