    I remember the most fun I had in my 10+ years of snowboarding was the first few years of progression. I remember every trip my friends and I learned something new. The journey was fun and fulfilling. Now on to your skidding, I think you know all the theory by now but in practice our mind (fear, anxiety, self preservation) get in the way. Now this is important. One thing I absolutely should have done years and years ago is to keep my chin touching my left shoulder on the heel turn (regular stance) and for the toe turn LOOK UP THE MOUNTAIN. If you completely look up the mountain on your toe turns you will feel the instant balance on your board no matter how steep the slope. In practice of course you don't need to look up the mountain every toe side turn but this gives you a much better idea of what having your shoulder be parallel to the board actually feels like. This matters more and more on steeper or bumpy terrain. Lastly, where your eyes look is where your chest will turn to so imagine that arrow shooting out from your chest and where that arrow on average points at. Notice I don't talk about your legs? Because having your center of mass (your torso) at the right place is so much more important than what leg initiates whatever. Have fun and good luck on your journey!

      That's very true man! Even knowing all the steps doesn't mean I can apply them right away when I'm actually snowboarding. And yes I have to work on my upper body more, that'll be my priority for the next run. Sometimes it's hard to edit my videos because I basically say the same thing again and again with little progression. But I know I just have to get my reps in, until all of the steps align and become one smooth motion. Thanks for the tip and enjoy your winter season!

    Hey man. Thanks for the snowboard videos. I watched them all.
    I'm in the same boat, a little bit behind. I only snowboarded 5 days until now.
    I can already link some turns, and have a good'ish edge control, but each time I change from toe side to heel side, I'm still afraid of catching an edge.
    Your video and comments really helped, and I just realized a bunch of things I'm doing wrong, just by watching.
    Excited to go to the mountain this weekend just because of that, and stay on more blue runs, working on technique, instead of jumping to red and black.

      That's awesome to hear man. Yea it just takes more mountain time and really be critical of what we can do better. Speed is definitely a barrier to get over with. Once you get enough runs, you'll feel what works and it'll become second nature. Then we can progress after each problem is solved. It takes time, but I'm loving the process.

      One step is to bend your knees and lower the center of gravity, you’ll feel a lot more confident then!

      @@InTuned182 I just went to the mountains again, and this time I took an insta360 with me too.
      And wow! It's the best hack for fast improvement. In my level and experience, there is nothing better for improvement than seeing what you're doing from the outside view.
      I also had a skill difference between my heel side and toe side that I didn't notice before without watching the videos, and was using a slight arm movement to transition to the heel side.

    So fun seeing you progress so much dude! I highly suggest moguls even as a snowboarder. They are frustrating at first but they really took my riding to the next level and improved my turns in all other facets (trees, steeps, etc.)

      @InTuned182  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Yup as more trails open some are bound to be ungroomed. I never really thought moguls would help my snowboarding but I understand what you mean. It makes you read the terrain more and actually plan your turns. Ill be going again soon, hopefully find mogul runs!

    As a fellow beginner, I really appreciate these videos because i have alot of common mistakes which i can see in the videos. This allows me to understand what to work on and look for some drills to do from malcom more

      Thank you! Yea its hard to start snowboarding. A lot of growing pains, but with enough time, runs, and critical evaluation with the guide from Malcolm, you'll definitely improve just like I did. Enjoy your the rest of your winter season!

    If you head out West at all, please... Make sure you work your way up through greens and blues. Black/Double black out West is a LOT different than what they are calling a double black.

    Good stuff dude! Next step is to try a double black out west! haha. No seriously though, if you ever find yourself skiing in utah, be careful with their double blacks. Not uncommon to have mandatory cliff drops & other crazy features.

    • @InTuned182
      @InTuned182  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! And yea I know double blacks in more advanced mountains are mostly ungroomed and cliff drops. It won't be this season where I would fly for a snowboard trip but hopefully next year. My goal this season is to just hone in on snowboarding making sure I can be safe when I do more advanced mountains. Enjoy your winter season dude!

    Your heel side is still skidding. Your knees are not bent enough. You aren't rolling your ankles. To help with your shoulders being square keep your right hand in your pocket.

    If you are ever in VT, you should definitely get an Epic Pass. Let's you ride as much as you want. I think it's worth it. Okemo and Mount Snow are my two favorite mountains in VT, Mount Sunapee is good too in NH. Once you get used to the mountain, you kinda get bored of the same runs, which is why I go to different resorts to keep it fresh and views are also great. One thing I noticed when you snowboard black diamond is that you tend to initiate the turn with backfoot, and have your legs relatively straight. On black diamonds, ideally, you want to lower your legs to absorb bumps and initiate the turns faster, using your lead leg and your lead shoulder, meaning you should be turning using your lead legs + lead shoulder, this will allow you to initiate the turn way faster and be in control. Your board chattering is due to your leg being stretched out instead of bending your leg to absorb bumps. When you keep these tips in mind and try to correct them, your board chatter will be minimized. It is still going to happen, and the sooner you accept that, the less pressure you will feel and will be able to have more fun on the mountain.
    In terms of pencil thin carve you are looking for, try pushing your legs out after you initiate your turn. This will almost feel like board is sticking to the ground, feeling some kind of pressure on board, allowing you to leave pencil thin carve you were trying to accomplish. Try this on a wide blue run. On black diamonds, there is a different riding method compare to wide blues or greens. In the near future, if FS 180 is your goal, you need to work on switch first before even attempting 180s. Riding switch is like learning to snowboard all over again, but it's fun. Once you can comfortably ride switch, green and blue runs, you can work on 180s. This will minimize your injury potential. Other than that, I enjoy your videos and hope you'll pump out more snowboarding videos!

      I was debating getting an Epic pass since I could use Hunter as my base mountain and still go to other mountains but, I found a great deal for Belleayre season pass. And since I'm still learning, I didn't think I would frequent Ski trips that's too far from NYC. But I'll definitely get it next year!
      Yup, Thank you! I'll try bending my knees more and lean more front side. It feels a bit scary to commit to the front foot on black runs since it picks up speed. I think my solution for this is to do two good front-weighted turns, then do two of my skidded turns to control my speed. My goal is to get comfortable with the feeling first so I can fully commit to have that technique more often later. Ill try pushing my legs out more. I learned recently that early edge changes can help with carving a lot. And yea I'm waiting until I go with friends or family that are beginners so I can teach them while practicing my switch on the greens. Thank you for the advice! Enjoy your winter season!

    You seem like a nice fellow who is serious about progression. In that light I'll offer some friendly advice. Maybe stay off blacks and double blacks because you're not yet carving, and if you focused on proper technique and dialed in the transfer of your center of mass to the inside of the edge change, you'd progress faster and maybe have more fun (fun is subjective so I don't know). I'd look at Malcolm Moore videos for edge change techniques, especially up unweighting, and get a lesson if your budget allows. Tommie B is great but please avoid Buckhouse. Happy for you enjoying the stoke!

      Thank you! I find black diamonds much more fun since its usually a small top part of the trail, and then at the bottom it turns into blue and that's where I practice my edge control and eventually carving. Enjoy your winter season!
