You got so much better as the day progressed. One thing to note: the early edge changes were not bad. That’s actually how you do carved turns. If your knees were bent more you’d have ridden that turn out and would have had a carved toe to heel carve. As of now, you’re just skidding your turns then holding (carving) on an edge. But you aren’t actually carving the turns just yet until you can comfortably do that early edge change. Which you’ll get with a bit more speed and some more knee bending.
Amazing video! I can tell how much dedication you put into these! Also great to hear Malcolm Moore being mentioned, he definitely helped me go from 0 to 100 after feeling stuck with my riding
i just recently starting carving and recording your self got to be the best way to see mistakes, i was so stiff on both heel and toe . the other day i was back on the mountain and kinda just sent it and got as low as i can . it felt really good just letting my legs tkae charge.
Yea same with me. Once I activated my legs I learned to properly shift my weight during my turns. Sometimes we just have to go for it and make the mistakes so we can learn from it sooner.
you aren't really carving since your board is skidding and not following your edge. Putting even pressure on both feet will prevent the back of the board from sliding out
Yup thank you!, Yea I'm going to work on my terminology calling some of my turns as carves on my next videos. But in regards to carving, I am working towards it!
Just got back from my holiday trip to the East Coast with very, very, very icy runs 🤪I had a moment where I almost thought I'd have to quit, but somehow the muscle memory slowly started coming back, and eventually it got fun again. It's so nice to see normies like me trying it and getting better. Thanks for sharing your progress and have an amazing season!
It's not the best condition but from my experience in Belleayre, there have been really good days. The grooming team at Belleayre is one of the best in the Catskills. Yea once you get comfortable again and gain some confidence, it starts to be fun. I'm glad your enjoying my process of learning, I'll have more videos coming out this season!
Hi! is it possible to self-learn snowboard? Have you taken any lessons before? I was thinking about switching from skiing to snowboarding but I don't know If I can make it work.
My very first time, my uncle paid for a 1 hour group snowboarding lesson. But I believe you can learn without lessons. I've taught a lot of friends how to do the basics of snowboarding and they have been able to do green runs that same day (although, they were only doing heel side turns the whole time). I learned the most by just going to the mountain more and watching a lot of TH-cam videos. I think I have them linked on some of these videos. It's a lot of falling and trusting that your snowboard will eventually turn when you point your shoulders to the direction of your turn. I hope this helps!
I just use a helmet. I have hip/butt pads just incase I have a bad fall and I want to continue snowboarding. I try to practice more safety technique when I fall or before I'm about to fall.
Congrats don't give up!! I'm intermediate too.. My problem is SPEED at not groomed runs.. I'm started snowboarding last year and I went mountains 3 times a week to learn (I'm watching Malcolm videos too)..When I got "high speed" I just feel very scary and lost control and put more weight into my back foot (I'm regular).. For me basic carvings is easy, turns and linked turns too my only problem is Speed🤣.
Wow 3 times a week sounds exhausting haha, but the more reps the better. Yea the speed is just getting comfortable and having more runs down the mountain. I could feel myself get more comfortable with speed, the more I go.
i started snowboarding at the end of last season and just focussed on turns on greens and blues. at just my 4th time this year i sent it down a black diamond and hit 60mph. after that my fear of speed and going straight down runs is gone
Its a great action camera, but like all action camera, you don't get the dynamic range, and not the best quality compared to mirrorless cameras. But for what it offers, which is a 360 view, I think its worth the money. Its actually forcing myself to be more adventurous to make the most out the the camera.
Yo So i know its easier said than done but the root cause of your skidding is because your weight is on the back foot. Carves need the front foot initiation to carve a clean line. Lean more on front foot.
First of all, I like your video and you can see for yourself where you have room for improvement! And respect to you for daring to start on a black slope. I think your counter-steering on the toeside is also due to the fact that you're holding your camera pole in your back hand. Try it without, or if at all, take it in your front hand and try to "point" over your snowboard to the heelside edge with your back hand I can recommend watching videos by Malcolm Moore. He explains really well, step by step
Thank you! Yea I noticed that the camera influences my riding a bit. My next run, I'm going to do more frontal view so I can evaluate my attempt to carve a lot better. And yes I was Malcolm often before my trips. It just easier said then done sometimes haha but his videos are the basis of my analysis.
@@InTuned182 it was the same for me with the camera especially when you concentrate on filming without a 360° camera, driving becomes more and more difficult and yes, i usually watch malcolm in the evening to correct the mistakes i noticed during the day
In United States that black diamond is a blue run. It’s just that it’s a smaller mountain… it’s also hard telling how steep things are in a 360 cam. But i can guarantee in Austria your blue runs aren’t as icy as this mountain (and all east coast US mountains) typically get…
I think you should use more your front knee and shoulder to initiate the turn, use knee steering. Maybe with the front view of the camera we can better see front movements
Thank you! I forget about activating my knee a lot. Ill be more conscious of it next run. I did another vlog where I do more front shots. Hopefully I can study more how I can improve.
Youre doing great! Try bending your knees more when things get uncomfortable. Also to really board, remember to try carving instead of speed checking. Remember they are different and you wanna try carving instead of spreading peanut butter (speed checking)
Thanks man, I didn't really think about it like this. I think once I'm comfortable doing quick and narrower turns, I'll be able to carve better. But yea I noticed in my videos that sometimes my angles isn't sharp enough so that the steel edge is gripping. I'll keep it in mind next time I go which is soon!
Definitely the uphill persons fault. 100. At the same time though it could have been avoided. When traversing across the hill on heelside like that, make sure you check over your shoulder before cutting across like that. Because even though it’s the uphill persons fault, you could have prevented it from happening. Stay safe!
He works as a snowboard instructor, I don't think he would want to give his time away for free. Have a search for instructors in your area and take some lessons , imo thats the quickest way to improve. Or try posting a video on r/snowboarding and ask for some pointers.

Great advice. Thankyou

Good job out there man! I didn't even know about this mountain and its only 2 hrs from me

My first snowboard day ever was the last week of December at Killington and there was so much ice. Still suffering from bruised tailbone lol
Sweet vid. I was there that day and actually saw myself a few times. It was a crazy beautiful day out. Great prog

Goat path is as steep as deer run?
The top part of Goat path has some steep narrower turns. Deer Run has some hills but they're more wide at the middle.
So good ❤
great video man. Kinda in the same boat just got the insta360. Was wondering what app you were talking about that tracks speed?
I rarely use it now since I'm too lazy to take my phone out before a run. But the app is called: Ski Tracker
How much safety equipment do you have/use?

My first time ever snowboarding I went down (fell down) a black diamond because I didn’t know the difference 😂
Haha that's one way to break the ice (all pun intended) on your first black diamond run.

You are not an intermediate, you're a beginner. You should not be doing black or doubles at your level - its not safe.
Absolute narc. He literally made it down that run just fine. He went a little slow... like the first time everyone tries a black.
