Since you brought it up, Jonny's guitar solos are recorded clean, and then he played them back running the track through a Mutronics Mutator, which is a dual channel filter/envelope follower unit. He manually tweaked the settings as his solo played back and was recorded with the processing, until he got it to sound the way he wanted.

I went to see them last November and I can only describe their shows as a religious experience. The feel of the whole place feeling the same thing at one time and being part of it. It's indescribable. If you ever get the chance to go do it.

"At the end he's so stoked because he did it." I've seen several comments say that the smile at the end is him laughing at a mistake he made. But I can't pick out the mistake. There _is_ a video where he misses a beat on Vicarious, and throws the whole band off. It's pretty funny.

"Who composes this stuff?" Danny, Adam, and Justin jam together and craft the music. It's very much a group effort. Then they give completed instrumental tracks to Maynard, eho comes up with vocals for each track. He sings where he wants to, and often surprises the band with where vocals are and aren't placed. There's a little bit of back and forth after that. Sometimes the music is reworked to extend or repeat a section to accomodate the lyrics. Sometimes you get tracks like Descending, where all the lyrics fit into the first half of the song, and Maynard's content to leave the last 6-7 minutes as instrumental.

I love the band but or me they were tons better as a psych guitar band. Hit to Death in the Future Head, Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, Cloud Taste Metallic is the holy trinity. After that they had good singles (like this) but patchy albums full of fillers (apart from Soft Bulletin). Seen both incarnations live and they're always cool
