"Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be. Desensitized to everything. What became of subtlety? But how can this mean anything to me? If I really don't feel a thing at all. But I'll keep digging till I feel something." This song means so many different things but those lyrics always stood out to me from my teens to now. Almost 30 years later and they still ring true.
I was working in Alt-rock radio when this song/album was released in '96 and the opening alone (with the light opening leading up to that first power note) simply blew everyone away. It was our most requested song for weeks. Such an epic album. Still one of my favorites.
omg I literally just saw them last night in LA! my first time seeing them live and wow! what an experience! I got goosebumps everywhere just from them walking up on stage at the beginning
I saw them in Biloxi, MS last month for the first time myself. Amazing show, and they played Stinkfist (my all-time favorite Tool song) last. I was in heaven.
"Stinkfist" as a song is an excellent example of what Tool is, what Maynard does. Quite often in a Tool song (especially these earlier ones when they were younger and more aggro), Maynard will use the "public-facing" surface layer of lyrics to lead with something crass and dirty, while using his _obviously_ excellent vocal style to link up with the music to create something that feels so much deeper and interesting. You can use that as an entrypoint to make that more interesting connection to the song beyond the amusing crassness if you find the spark for it... Or you can just love the absurdity of Tool making this masterful aural experience of interesting and awesome composition, fascinating vocal and production movement while marrying it to metaphors for dicks and foreplay and sexual deviancy LMAO Whichever mode lands the best and lets you vibe, that's the one you keep! It's so funny though, because regardless of how you _choose_ to take it, you _can_ always find something _else_ buried a little further that _also_ makes sense! Lol this band. That said, as ridiculous as this song's lyrics are, it's been a real standout (among greats) all through the years since I first heard it as a teenager. Stinkfist is the song that you will ALWAYS want to turn up a little more because it's just 👏sooo 👏freakin 👏groovy! Also fun fact: Stinkfist hit the radio as "Track 1" because the name was too saucy, yet they didn't really censor any of the lyrics out, nor the interlude part where he repeatedly whispers something obscene in Portuguese :x
Great point. I think Maynard intends to use sexual inuindo on the surface but generally there is a deeper meaning. Sometimes not though, sometime it's just funny
This was a super fun one. Shocking how many giggles this weirdo band can bring you. Giving you that sweet algo ❤ ** P.S. Gave yo band Lemon Tech a follow on Spotify, added “Outside The Lines” and “Heartbreak In Hawaii” to my SuperChill playlist, shared with a friend for a music game were playing, and got you penciled in for rotation for our monthly music night I host as part of an online philosophy group I organize… Thanks for being dope and adding so much value to this big beautiful earth 🌎
Tool are Prog Metal (Polymeters) and everything Maynard writes is a Metaphor/Analogy (Sarcastic)... Transcending Emotions/Intellect (Thoughts & Feelings)... Beyond Duality... Wisdom
Aenima is my favorite Tool album. The song Aenima and Eulogy and Hooker with a Penis is a must, heck the whole album is. Keep going, you are "learning to swim"
@@urbanshamanproductions9092 we just want your coleague to be happy. Check the time bar before pausing. Anyway, thanks for the video.. what a marathon. Was hoping for fear inoculom first song. Hugs.
I know the guy claims to know TOOL and have heard the songs, but he's stopped them at the very end a couple times now, and they played them as if he was expecting there to be more than what was left. Which makes me believe he's actually not really either listened to these songs himself, or doesn't actually really know them as well as he thinks. Lol. In essence, he's actually listening for the first time too.
Yes ,it is a great metaphor,I hope. Ha ha. Now you just have to get through Prison Sex and things should become more comfortable, so to speak. Great job.
here is a short list of best tool songs in no order, ... aenima , 46/2, eulogy, stinkfist, sober, the pot jumped on eventually.... notice how it's been decades since... it's not an accident oh, and since "misinterpretation" is kind of like the favorite pastime if not an actual credo of many tool fans, i just want to point out that these are the absolute, unquestionable best songs the band has ever produced but NOT their only good songs... they've made many many more songs that are actually good and can be listened to repeatedly... but these are better
Y’all are really hitting your groove with these now. As for the song and the year it was written, if Maynard were to update it for today (almost 30 years omg) we’d be well beyond the shoulder. Maybe full on body with just a foot sticking out. Turn around and grab my toe.

Timeless probably. And that make the message really land 🤘🌀

Crazy part is, this is from the 90s, before our fairly new addictions to devices and content, even more relevant in this day then ever.
Why? It's about getting fisted
You are damn right, did not think about the release date of that album. This song was never that relevant.

Go see them. I saw them last month. I’m 59 and a lover of all genres of music but that concert should be on everybody’s tiny bucket list.
Absolute jam with still relevant message, gotta love Tool
Stinkfist is such a banging track, I don't hear much chatter around it, but I'm glad to see it being appreciated for a change.
They're playing live on the current tour, saw it in OKC 🤘🌀
This is so good live. It's a banger. 🌀
Rosetta stoned next those lyrics are hilarious 😂

What's the whispered lyric?
The live version is even better when they add the extra instrumental..so dope
One Tool song I haven't seen alot of "first time hearing" videos on is Opiate (either version). Early Tool and oh, those lyrics.
This was a super fun one. Shocking how many giggles this weirdo band can bring you. Giving you that sweet algo ❤

Nice take! It's all metaphor! Maynard is a genious. ✌️
Way u said stinkfist all innocent had me in stitches 😂
It feels like a song about social media before it was even imagined.
Automatic thumbs up, love you guys!
saw them play this live last month. so good
I love their breakdowns
The over stimulation is everywhere and this is written before 96 when the album came out. I've always heard the 2 different vocals as a conversation
Reading a book can reveal alot
Of ideas behind these songs
lol what a great metaphor... I hope!
I like the live version where he puts the Sugarhill gang, White Lines ! And Elvis, Suspicious Minds , in the breakdown .
I ❤ Val
Loving your Tool reactions team
:58 "Drums?" Yes, electronic drum pad(s) to be more precise.

Always an adventure. Nothing is as it seems😂
Best song eva...lol
It’s shoulder deep!
Pushit (studio version) next!!
why the last pauses ? lol . with 5 seconds to go
Same with 46 and 2 reaction lol
It’s easy to get lost in the music

Bass in the beginning, right?
Danny is the one playing the intro in the more recent live videos of it so I'm not positive, but it's probably him on the album version too.

Just a thought - I don’t see many lyric reaction (or audio) for HWAP.
Ahem
Just saying’
But, Val will need to read the lyrics - with first hearing.
It’s about desensitization

relax turn around and take my hand.
